    Today, I've visited a beginner wood carving class held by a senior, very experienced wood carver. While I was learning the very basics of carving, the topic of conversation suddenly turned to CNC routing and that he has a brand new CNC router in the other workshop which he hasn't started working with yet since he lost the translated manual for it and cannot understand English well. Being a software developer, I've no trouble with the language and I'm quite used to getting machines do what I want. Since most of my knowledge of CAM is theoretical (I did a few models in Fusion 360 as a hobby), your videos on Aspire and Mach3, setting up the machine... etc. will prove invaluable for me tomorrow morning, when we've agreed to give setting up the machine another try. Thank you.

    Dave I am following this with great interest because I am soon going to build my own CNC. I have followed Dave Gatton's CNC build and his might be of interest to your users as well. I wanted to start all of this, over a year ago, but got delayed so like anything if you don't keep up you lose it. So as I said I am watching with great interest your beginnings with CNC. Just remember those that follow this will have a ton of questions and it is good that you are doing this as a side to your normal channel. Thank you for taking on this endeavor.

      Thanks Chuck. Please keep me informed on how your journey goes! I am mixing this in with my channel rather than an aside as I really don't have enough time to do it separately. I still need to go out and work like everybody else to earn an income to keep up with the bills so I create these videos when I get any spare opportunity.

After struggling to create an array of holes with freecad and giving up on Fusion 360 after a) a UI change and then b) finding the UI would only appear correctly in French (not just me) I watched the array function engaged as smooth as silk. Intend to deploy this on my recently completed MPCNC router. Might be able to afford a beauty like your rig one day but doubt it! Thanks again, just hoping the Aspire gcode is compatable with Marlin firmware

    If you load a full sheet of 1200 X 240, can you hold down without nails or screws ? (On your 1200 wide gantry) or do you need the 1500 wide gantry and then use Festool type dog/clamp? Im wondering if I should get the 1500 wide gantry based on that alone.

    @OldePhart 4 роки тому

    I like your style and the content and I subscribed, but I just finished my CNC hardware and the Mach4 setup so I have a functional moving machine and ready to start the Aspire part. But as luck would have it, you skipped the ONE thing I needed most at this moment. The point at which you are done with Aspire and you save it as a gcode file. There is a process where the file is converted into a g-code file that is specific to Mach3. You mentioned briefly Mach3 arcs mm. I am using Mach4 and imperial so I assume the process is different since Mach4 is a different flavor. Have you looked at the different flavors of post processors and have any insight to share on them ?

    Shame MACH3 doesn't show a picture of the design you are about to cut.

      Hi Dave, Thanks for sending the link to you cutting the ovals. I got my machine and am getting
      into wiring now. One thing, when you Z'd using the touch plate was there the option of Z-ing the top of the material or the top of the bed? Do you have to choose one or the other? Ian

      David Stanton Oh just stop would you ....... swap you an air fix kit? (Just in case you can’t remember ..... airfix made very accurate ww2 airplane plastic kits that you glued together) ... all the rage in the day .... then again they were affordable 🤓

      David Stanton lol ..... Can I ask you Dave if you don’t mind .... what sort of cost for the set up that you now have?

      If I had purchased the machine, which I did not, I was given it by CNC Router parts because they felt it was a good mix for my viewers. Total without delivery to Australia would have been just over 12 thousand US.
