This has been a really helpful video, I have heard some horror stories about the housing crisis in Groningen and it actually has me pretty worried. I've followed some of the links you have put in your description and it looks like there are a few options available but most seem to be available from may and I am only arriving in the Groningen in July. I've already received my offer from the university but am considering changing course and looking for something in the UK. Would you say that it is as difficult to find housing that is not extortionate if I am looking from now? And do you have any recommendations for whatsapp groups?
Hahaha housing here in Groningen can be a scary topic but if you put some effort and you have a bit of luck is defintely possible. If you are seriously starting to search for a house now in April you will have many options available. This is the period of time where you start seeing more offers and the competition is not too high yet. For the groups I would suggest you more on the Facebook ones . Good luck and if you any further question don't hesitate to ask :)
As a Dutch national I would advise you to go to the UK instead, it is not worth the money and time to find accommodation here. You will have more luck in the UK.
Enrico thank you for all the info. Great video! Which are the agencies you mentioned on minute 3.41? Can you write them out for me please? I am looking for rent. I had to rent the student hotel but I would prefer to rent at a cheaper place. Thank you.
Thank you very much Enrico for this helpful video. I just have a question that have been bugging me for days now. If I start searching for a place now (March/April) in order for me to move in mid August and let's say that i find something, will I have to pay the rent for those approximately 4 month until August or can I make an agreement that i will start paying the rent when i arrive in Groningen?
Usually you will have to pay for those months. Personally I would do so because it is always better to pay a few more months and have a place, instead of stressing about finding a place at the last minute.
Hi, thanks so much for your video. It is the most useful one I got in UA-cam. I'm gonna be an exchange student in Aug. Do you know whether plutolaan, Blekerslaan and Moesstraat are good places? There are very limited choices in SSH for exchange students, and I saw many negative comments like dirty and noisy conditions there. I 'm pretty worried about that. But for other choices, they are too expensive for me.
@@rittikatalukder6607 Hi I chose the ssh studio in Esdoorlaan, which is around 630e/month. It is quite near to the Zernike campus. Sorry I dont know other options.
Hi Enrico, have you ever heard about "Blockhouse" in Groningen, and if yes, are you familiar with who they accept for housing? They still have unreserved housing but everytime I try reserving they cancel my request. I've sent an email asking about the availability and they say there is still a variety of rooms open. Their website says they have no bias in who they accept so I'm confused about their selectivity.
Hey, coming from a future student how hard is it too survive the first few months without being fluent in dutch, also are there pages to talk to some students/future students so i know some people before i arrive ...
Thank you so much! Super helpful!
Thanks for helping man 💪🏼
