  • We discuss a question from our mopar channel comment section, Why build a 426 hemi?
The mopar bros chat about the reasons why an owner would go this route in their build at the mopar lodge.
Whether you have a 6.1L hemi or a 6.4L Hemi & add a stroker kit to make either of those engines a 426 hemi or choose to hemi swap in a 426 crate motor , there are different way to approach this build or even question the direction of this build, considering the many other options to add horsepower to your mopar .
In this episode we showcase a Dodge Charger that has a 6.1L Hemi stroked out to a 426 as well as a Dodge Challenger SRT8 that also has a 6.1 with a 426 hemi stroker kit but also has it cammed and supercharged!
Me personally, either a Charger or Challenger I would just purchase a supercharger , run it for a year then rebuild the hemi and add a cam & stroker kit after ! For me it's all about the Journey and also driving it! Experience the mods !
Building or swapping in a 426 Stroker or 426 Hemi crate engine into a vehicle offers several advantages for enthusiasts seeking increased performance and power. Here are some reasons why individuals may choose to undertake such a project:
Heritage and Legacy: The 426 Hemi engine has a legendary status in automotive history, renowned for its dominance on the racetrack during the muscle car era of the 1960s and 1970s. Building or swapping in a modern version of this iconic engine pays homage to its heritage and legacy in American automotive culture.
Increased Power and Performance: A 426 Stroker or 426 Hemi crate engine offers significantly increased power and performance compared to stock or smaller-displacement engines. These engines are typically built with high-performance components, larger displacements, and optimized airflow for enhanced horsepower, torque, and acceleration.
Superior Engine Design: The 426 Hemi engine features a hemispherical combustion chamber design that allows for improved airflow and efficient combustion. This design, coupled with larger bore and stroke dimensions, results in superior power and performance characteristics compared to traditional wedge-style engines.
Potential for Customization: Building or swapping in a 426 Stroker or 426 Hemi crate engine provides enthusiasts with the opportunity for customization and personalization. Depending on individual preferences and performance goals, various components such as camshafts, cylinder heads, intake manifolds, and exhaust systems can be selected to tailor the engine's characteristics to specific needs.
Modern Reliability and Technology: While the 426 Hemi engine has a storied history, modern iterations of this engine benefit from advancements in engineering, materials, and manufacturing techniques. These modern engines offer improved reliability, durability, and drivability compared to their vintage counterparts, making them suitable for daily driving as well as high-performance applications.
Direct Replacement: Crate engines are designed to be direct replacements for factory engines, making the installation process relatively straightforward for experienced mechanics or enthusiasts with the necessary skills and tools. Swapping in a 426 Stroker or 426 Hemi crate engine allows for a seamless upgrade without the need for extensive modifications or fabrication work.
Street Credibility and Resale Value: Vehicles equipped with a 426 Stroker or 426 Hemi engine often command attention and respect from automotive enthusiasts due to their association with high performance and muscle car culture. Additionally, such vehicles may retain or even increase in value over time due to their rarity, desirability, and historical significance.
Overall, building or swapping in a 426 Stroker or 426 Hemi crate engine offers enthusiasts the opportunity to unleash the full potential of their vehicle, with increased power, performance, and a nod to automotive history and heritage.

There’s always the lineage of the banned 426 HEMI NASCAR motor that ran circles around the competition back in 1965. I think that’s what this motor is supposed to call back to.

As far as I'm concerned the engine of choice for drag racing has, and always will be the 2nd Gen Chrysler Hemi. It is considered by many as the king of power plants and it is the only engine design to run a sub 4 second run in the N.H.R.A.

I did a stroker kit on my 5.7 to a 392 from MMX fully forged with low compression 9.5 for boost, my car is only on 11.5 lbs of boost and it makes 652 HHP at the wheels, ported heads custom cam with headers 3 years now on this motor with no issues, I have one of the fastest 5.7 in Ontario I do drag race this car both at cayuga and St Thomas, best pass to date is a 10.86@132 MPH with a 1.54 60 foot and it's a 6 speed manual with a Barton shifter. My dodge challenger R/T is one of a kind nothing like it pit there is it one of one, it's a monster on the road, asked Hellcat owners or Gen 5 or 6 Camaro'sZL1 or 2013 and 2014 Shelby 500 I've Beaton them all and I've lost races also, I'd like for you to do a review on it on your channel this coming season the only problem is is that I am not on Facebook Instagram so I never know where you guy are at.
