Except there are only 13 per letter, so you either have to read based on the first left of the authors name, or you’ll run out of spaces on some letters before others. Super annoyed they did it that!

@taylorgayhart9497 tbh I'd just ignore the letter thing and probably blot out the letter with a square of colour or something. Maybe colour code based on the semester?

The Mental Floss one looks like something I'd get at a school book fair in the 2000s. Like the mix of photos and illustrations, the quote bubbles, even the finish of the paper? If that makes sense

I think Hannah’s journal is the closest to what I like. I like the owl crate one because I don’t need a lot of space for reviews and like the monthly stats page and wrap-up page. But I don’t like having to buy the box to get it and it is wasted because I don’t use the planner part. But I appreciate your reviews so much!!

Hannahs is so pretty and colorful, I just wish I didn't have to pair it with another for tracking. I love to do the monthly stats, readathons, etc so I just ended up making my own. I do think I might purchase hers to collect all of my all-time favorites in one book. I still say you need to design your own journal Kayla. You've done so much research into what works, yours would be epic😂

I'm so glad you've done this series because I think what it's ultimately shown me is that I don't want any premade reading journal and just want to use a bullet journal to make my own 😅 There's just always something I don't like or don't want in a premade journal as well something missing I do want. The flexibility of making my own just can't be beat. But I'm glad to see you go through all of them so I can see what they have to offer before I commit to something and then inevitably give it up for not being right in a couple of weeks.

I love the idea of these type of reading journals but I know from past experience I will give up on them after about 2 months. My reading journal now is just an index, one or two stat pages, a page for the month, then I just fill it with notes on whatever I'm reading until the next month. It's waaaaay more writing, but I started it when my ADHD got me starting 20 books a month and not finishing any and I just keep doing it out of routine. 😂

This video has definitely confirmed for me that I want to pick up the 'a clockwork readers reading journal'. I love the design and it has all the lists I want to compile. I actually like that it has a space for 'narrator' as every book does have one as it is the way the story is told to the reader and I personally enjoy looking to see whether I have a particular preference for this (this is probably something new for me to look at since I started an English Lit degree and part of the course has been looking at how stories are told, so I can appreciate that it isn't for everyone or it's used for audiobooks!)

Currently using and loving Hannah’s reading journal. My only critique was that I didn’t think the “where you read this book” answer spot needed to have so much space, but that could be because I mainly read books at home. If I had had this journal on my honeymoon, I could have written in that space about which Air Bnb we were at for certain books, etc.

    • @agonz0123
      @agonz0123 2 роки тому +12

I use that space to write down where I was physically and mentally when reading a book. I sometimes read books based off what my mind is craving to read and I use that space to see if it hit what I was looking for or not, or what i became obsessed with from the book!

My mother had us start reading logs when I was 9 (2007) in compositions books so that we could see how much reading we were doing as well as what kinds of books (also helped her know when more nonfiction was needed lol). Now in 2022 I am in my third composition book and have a log of almost all the books I have read in the last 15 years which I love because I use it to suggest books to other people. I never considered doing a reading journal though, I have occasionally written reviews on Goodreads but I like the idea of writing a few thoughts just for myself in my log.
Thank you for your thoughts and ideas!

I recommend the Always Fully Booked planner or the Novel Companion planner by Little Inklings Designs. She is Canadian and sells bookish planners and stickers. The Always Fully Booked planner is a huge 12 month planner that she only sells once a year towards the end of the year, but her Novel Companion is a more comprehensive planner that isn't reliant on dates/starting in January like the AFB planner.

I bought the Paperstyle Book Notes in 2011 and found all I want from a book journal is a space to write title, author date started and finished. The book is split into Books Read, Quotes, Books Borrowed and Lent and Wish List sections with a pencil loop, ribbon and elastic band. The pages themselves are blank with the title of the section at the top.I like to know when I last read a book and how many I've read in a year. Now that I've finished the Books Read section, I'm continuing on the next section with the same information - a line a book. I love that I have a record of all the books I read since 2011 in one place, and I don't really need to review the books for myself. As I reread favourites, it's also nice to know how many rereads I have done. I know I last read the Lord of the Rings when I fell pregnant with my toddler, or that I've read Jane Eyre 5 times since the start of the journal. All that to say, I don't think these journals are for me and if and when my book is full, a really quality notebook will suffice me next time.

I bought one from Little Inkling Designs who is based in Canada so shipping to the UK was quite a lot but it was worth it. I think the only thing missing from it is a page or pages to record DNFs. There is a dot grid and note page for every month and spare ones in the back. I am using the monthly pages as a proper diary too. It has monthly, quarterly and year wrap ups. Lots of space for reviews. Its exactly what I wanted from a journal/planner and I have already started using it. The wishlist is really long too!

There is thinness of paper and DENSITY of paper. Moleskine paper is thin but dense so it’s high quality paper and their notebooks are prized for this. It’s durable and resists bleed through. Pens glide on it. Compare to something like newspaper which is thin or construction paper which is thick, but both are not dense so therefore cheap, tear easily and suck to write on.

The ones you’re using this year are beautiful! I love the look of Hannah’s- it’s how I’d like my bujo to look but can never manage.

I've been using Stella's reading journals for awhile and I love it honestly. My version is a bit different and I use pens in mine.

I use a Legend Planner and adapt it to be a reading journal. It has loads of dotted pages in the back too! I haven't seen a reading journal which allows for the flexibility I want yet.

I've never really used a reading journal before, but I got one in a recent illumicrate box so I am gonna give it a try. it has a good mix of features and I especially like the expense tracker

I can't decide whether to create my own spreads in a reading journal, or whether to buy one of these. Either way, thank you so much for these videos! They help so much!!

yeah... moleskein is notorious for their thin paper. I'm honestly kind of shocked they haven't come out with more heavier gsm options given the bujo boom....

This was super informative - thank you. I buy a blank journal each year and do my own designs and spreads. It's all about paper thickness for me - everything else is negotiable, but not paper thickness. Anything under 120 gsm is a no go. I prefer 160 gsm.

just ordered Hannah's journal ^^ it was already on my radar, but I was waiting to decide ( and also see how affordable it would be getting it from a local shop since I live in Europe) but your video convinced me.
Also, I really like these videos because lots of the things that you find important, I do too, so it feels like a more curated (re)view that I would get somewhere else X

Thank you for including journals without review sections! I'm more about the stats than writing reviews. That first journal is on my Christmas list now (I've got my journal for 2022 already)!
