    Thanks clint.
    Yesterday you inspired me to go up Alpe du zwift. I have beaten my Pr (44:23) by nearly a minute.
    Thanks a lot. Hope you and your family stay healthy.

    I picked up a climb to pair with my Kickr core unit and loving it! Occasionally I'll re-ride a stored route from my Garmin, elevation quite well but its when I pair my set up to Zwift, Rouvy, Kinomap, etc does it really take indoor training to another level. I was hesitant at first, but so glad I made the investment. I agree I prefer riding outdoors, the rain isn't an issue either. But when its impossible to be outdoors and limited with time, trainers the way to go! Enjoy, thanks for the info!

    Cool, my old bike shop in NY used to build a few high end look road bikes before disc brakes, back then the high end frames had angular tubes. Thats the drawback of living in NC at least in my area is NO shoulders so thats why i sold my 2 road bikes, trails are fun though and really more into nature

    Hi Clint, I'm a new subscriber and I love all your videos. Excellent video regarding the Kickr Climb. I'm sure you have heard or read by now, Elite has launched a similar product that enables steering called the Elite Rizer. Looks just as amazing. I am just now thinking about getting a Smart Trainer set up, potentially looking to purchase the Kickr Climb or the Elite Rizer as an additional accessory. Wondering if you will look into the Elite Rizer as well in the future and potentially doing a review on that?

    Did you input your bike's wheelbase size? Are yo using Zwift Difficulty of 100%? If not, you need to revise the wheelbase.... ie if you are using 50% difficulty, you need to double the wheelbase to get a realistic rise in elevation to mimic grade

    Realize that Zwift trainer difficulty is going to impact the Kickr Climb angle. I use 100% so it’s as close to outdoors as possible.

    Without a doubt the climb is more accurate to ride feel. You don't steer anywhere close to that in real ridding. But the grade definitely works different groups. I get more watts with the climb because of the position.

    You should try to figure out how to balance the Climb atop of the Sterzo, then you'd have the best of both worlds. =)
    What's it like standing on the pedals while using the Climb?

    • @ndoren
      @ndoren 3 роки тому +2

      I tried the Kickr Climb with the Sterzo... no joke. That's a no-go... the base of the Climb is too wide. It's not hard to picture an "adapter" (perhaps 3D printed) to go between the Climb and Sterzo, though. Safety first. The Climb is rock solid while standing on the pedals, and I'm a pretty heavy guy. No evidence of belt wear whatsoever... I have 4500 miles on it so far. One of the biggest benefits of the Climb is that it shifts your position on the saddle a bit at different elevations, and reduces butt fatigue. Just make sure your trainer has the ability to pivot... eg: Latest generation of Wahoo Kickr, Snap, etc.

    I'd have to set the kicker on a pile of books to replicate some of the disgusting, gut wrenching climbs here in Wales, one of them was used in the Tour of Britain with Thomas and Wiggins having battled up them. Great set-up there though and good reasoning behind riding the 'elephant in the room'.

    Csn you get out the saddle when connected to the climb or is that not advised due to stress on the forks?

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  Рік тому

      You definitely can. You just obviously can’t sway the bike back and forth like you would on the road.

  • @Kcducttaper1
    @Kcducttaper1 2 роки тому

    I can't quite figure out how this works well. If the front end of the bike is supposed to be raising and lowering by pivoting on the rear axle, the line the Kickr Climb appears to move the front axle is way wrong! The front axle should move in an arc with the rear axle being the center point of the arc. Instead, the Climb pulls the front axle up and away from the rear axle as it increases and down and into the rear axle as it goes down, which would cause tremendous stress on the headset and fork. What am I missing?

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  2 роки тому

      The Climb is beveled on the bottom So it can rock forwards and backwards. No additional stress on the head tube

    More of a generic question. Do you have any concern about putting an expensive carbon frame on a trainer in terms of stress? Thanks

    • @ClintGibbs
      @ClintGibbs  6 місяців тому

      Not at all. I figure the stress put on a carbon frame in a sprint is going to be as much or more than you could possibly do when a trainer. Most of the time when I’m on a trainer I’m not doing max efforts.

  • @lawor8

    Clint actually there is a wahoo product that climbs and steers at the same time. It is called the wahoo bike. Zwift just added steering with the buttons on the handlebars. Personally I have the Stages SB20. To me it just makes sense to get an indoor bike that way there is no wear on your bike parts. And by the time you spend money on the kickr climb, the headwind fan and the indoor trainer you might as well to just buy an indoor bike IMO.😀

    • @ndoren
      @ndoren 3 роки тому

      Don't forget the Kickr cycling desk (US$250) and the Kickr floor mat (US$70) and the Tikr heart monitor, etc. I probably spent as much as the Kickr bike would have cost... but unfortunately invested in all that stuff before the Wahoo bike existed. :-(.

    • @Tchairdjian
      @Tchairdjian 3 роки тому +1

      @@ndoren you still need the headwind, the Mat and the Desk whether or not ou have the Kickr Bike or just the trainer and the Climb haha.... I thought the same... I have the full set...

    • @PascalKolkman
      @PascalKolkman 3 роки тому +2

      I have ridden both Wahoo products. The Difference between the more expensive Wahoo bike and the Wahoo kickr climb is speed !
      The Climb can get up to 20% much faster in app. 8 seconds, while on the Wahoo bike this takes around 12 seconds. So if the virtual reality video climb is short and quick by the time the interval climb like in Titans groove is over the Wahoo bike can still be adjusting uphill too late. Wich is not realistic. To me the wahoo bike also feels a bit more like a wooden play horse tilting around the center (up & backward) or (down and forward) while the kickr climb feels more like tilting up & down around the front wheel where your hands are like Clint said. This kind of feedback while lifting directly under the hands and really digging that front wheel into the downhill f.e. feels more realistic to me personally. Although the speed of the climb could also be more improved to make it able to respond to slope changes faster synchronic to the video slope being ridden.Even the kickr climb more speedy response sometimes is too late, too.

    • @PascalKolkman
      @PascalKolkman 3 роки тому +1

      Also steering on the Wahoo bike with only one button for turning right and one button for turning left without the ability to rotate the handlebars around the headset can not really compare to the kind of steering feeling with the elite Sterzo by rotating the handlebar , wich feels much more realistic than pushing rapidly on a button at a fixed handlebar. This kind of button input is not only applied by the wahoo bike also the tacx bike uses the same steering button setup. Wich is why I prefer a smart trainer like my wahoo kickr with sterzo for steering input with the addition of the kickr climb wich elevates the bike faster than the wahoo bike does.
      I can't imaging steering through the mtb course on swift by pressing buttons will be entertaining like doing the berms with a sterzo .

    • @PascalKolkman
      @PascalKolkman 3 роки тому

      Another big difference between a complete fixed Wahoo bike & kickr is the ability to store & carry around the smart trainer. The Kickr legs are foldable and it has a handle bar for carrying the trainer fi to store it under a bed or in a closet during periods you are not training indoors . Also this foldable design makes it easier to carry the trainer to a event or tt race if you want to do the Warming up for the Time Trial outside.
      The bike solution however whether it's Wahoo ,Tacx or a Spining bike is not foldable and therefor cannot be stored in a compact way under a bed or in a average closet or carried along to outdoor events easily. Unless you're a Arnold Schwarzenegger kind of bodybuilder ;-)
      So foldability and storage room is a property one also should take into account before spending lots of money, especially if your living in a small house.

      Short version: Headed out on a lunch time ride, saw a storm rolling in so I turned around. As I was pulling in the parking I heard a VERY loud pop and felt it on the side of my face...felt like a someone popped a plastic bag next to me. When I came inside, the receptionist's eyes were huge, as she saw the whole thing. She says "do you know how close you were to being struck by lightning!"...to which I of course responded yes. I was very fortunate to walk away from that.
