You are making lavender infused oil and with the alcohol, it’s lavender extract. Both very useful and your technique is OK. However, these are not “essential oils”. The difference in naming them is important. Good to see you put the flowers to good use. Thanks for the video.
Which is better for candles?
what is the best way to make them? Doing a search I was refereed to this and other ways like it.
Just to make it clear, it's not essential oil you are making. But an infused oil. Essential oils mean the oil of the plant is extracted. Just so you know. But great video for a good oil rub
she says that at the end
She maybe wants to say it in the title?
Already she said it. ☺️
I have never actually made lavender essential oils but I get kind of carsick and motion sick and i read it could help with that so I am going to try and make it but this vid has been really helpful! Thanks!
So glad to watch this. I forgot I could use Lavender to make an infused oil
Love infusing oils! I like using calendula for skincare, lavender is great too!
Oh my gosh how good is calendula oil!! I've made it before to use in calendula cream 😍 what are some of the skincare products you make with it? Xx
Love this! You did a great job. Wish others would have paid attention to the end... Nice work.
Aww thank you so much! I really appreciate your message. I'm so glad you enjoyed my video and watched right to the end 💝💖💗💓💞💕
I'm glad you mentioned at 18:20 that this isn't actually essential oil, but the title is misleading and could be considered click bait. I'm sorry if that seems rude. It's a great video for the product it is, though.
Thank you Vanessa for explaining it so simple,I enjoyed how you put all the techniques together.
I'm going to try it as well because I have a lot of Lavender flowers at 🏡. Than you again.
Oh I'm so thrilled you enjoyed it! It was my absolute pleasure 😍❤ thank you for watching and I hope you have great success in making it too 💖💕💓💗
Can this oil be added to candles?
I agree, lavender is my favorite scent too!
It's the best hey!
Love lavender with a similar attitude as yours.
It's just wonderful isn't it 😍❤
Thank you SOOOOO MUCH for making this video 💚 !!!!!
Awwww that's ok! I'm so thrilled you liked it! 😍❤
Thank you..
So nicely presented, didn't know it was this simple ..
Best wishes for the conservation..
Awww thank you so much! And I'm so glad you enjoyed the video 😍❤
Wonderful enjoyed this a lot your enthusiasm is catching. Good luck on your course too
Aww thank you so much Ann! I'm so glad you enjoyed the video
I'm going to have a go at the coconut one, thank you for this idea, I make Calendula oil with virgin oil , the healing benifits are amasing, I like your idea thank you x good luck with your adventure x
That's so wonderful to hear! I hope it goes well for you! That's awesome you make your own calendula oil!
Wow thank you, excellent job!
Thank you so much!
They're right your amazing
Awwwwwwww thank you!!!! ❤ my heart 💖💕💓💗
She's so adorable omg
I watched a video where a lady crushed them before she put them in the oil. Then she filter thru cloth and screen afterwards. she used almond oil, and I'm gonna try argon oil and rice bran oil, but also if you use alcohol, you want to use denatured alcohol so the scent is not of alcohol but only the lavender...but that is usually used later on after making the oil.
Thank you so much for the tips! Xx
Can you use this in a diffuser? Also can you do the same with roses?
Thank you for the video!!! 🌸🌸🌸
Awww my pleasure! I'm so happy you liked it 😍
This was very informative thank you
I'm so happy you enjoyed it!
GOOD FOR YOU SWEET....!!! I'm going to try to make one but I use lemon skin by using the vodca... 😇⚘⚘
Awwww THANK YOU! Oh that's awesome!! I'd love to try that someone too 😍❤
How to get lavende' seeds?
You are so under rated !
Awww thank you so much! That's so nice of you 💖💕💓❤💗
Can you not cut it with shorter stems so it dries quicker? The longer the stems the more moisture for the flower to absorb right?
It that use for making perfumes, and diffuser?
You did a great job! Thank you🦋
Aww thank you so much!
Love it 🎉
Thank you so much!
Lovelyyy
Vanessa, tell me, using coconut oil leave a coconut smell after the process??
is it thick like an oil? Also since it's alcohol based won't it dry out your skin?
What is best to use in a oil burner vodka or coconut oil
Love your outfit!
Awww thank you so much Joheln!!
Thanks for this video
Awww my pleasure, I'm glad you enjoyed it 😍
Thank you very much
Great video thankyou
Aww I'm so glad you liked it! Thank you for watching ❤️
😻😻🥰
Thank you.
Interesting video, another interesting fact because I grow lavender. For 1 L of lavender oil you need about 55 kg of fresh flowers, with distillation we get with lavender oil a tonic that is great for skin care
Hello can you use grape wine instead?
Are you able to put this oil in a humidifier??
I would like to know. What kind of lavender did you use?
Thanks, can I use any other oil besides coconut oil? Like olive oil or sunflower oil?
Yes you can
Thanks for the video! Can you do this with other herbs? Mint for instance.
Yes you can! You can make a mint-infused oil using olive oil 😍
Could you use the oil in homemade soap ??? Thanks for doing this video, it looks quite easy :)
Yes you can :) Aww my pleasure
Thanks Vanessa I'd love to try but how come the coconut oil is runny when it goes hard unless you melt it?
You can buy fractionated coconut oil so it’s stay liquid. You can buy it from your grocery store.
I use fractionated coconut oil
how long did you leave the one on the coconut oil to sit ? and did you just left it under the sun? could you put it on a pan or pot on very low heat for a couple of hours, do you think that would work too?
I used double-boiler
Can I use raki instead of vodka?
Its infused oil not essential oil.
Thank you for the clear up, sorry about that
Hello, i'm looking to make an essential oil out of Rum, because I Rarely by alcohol, except Rum which i use for pastries..
Would that work..?
Also when the infusion is done, you said leave the bottle open for the alcohol to dissipate, then only what's left is essential oil..,...how/why ..?
thanks
Great question. To make atrue essential oil you'll need steam distilling equipment, otherwise you can make an infused oil which is what I did here. The alcohol version was actually more of a tincture than an infused oil
@@VanessaDixon Thanks for the clarification..
Can you put either in one of those heated bowl things you put wax melts in?
Oh I'm not sure, what bowl are you meaning?
@@VanessaDixon wax melt plug in.
Ty
Which one can be used in a diffuser and which one can be used on the skin ?
Both 😊
The lavender infused oil can be used in recipes for lotion bars and lip balm. You are best using true essential oils for a diffuser as these are more concentrated and you only need a few drops in the water. Using the extract or the infusion in a diffuser, you would need to use a lot more. Producing what is technically a true essential oil is also known as steam distilling. To make an essential oil, you have to distill the Lavender buds, capture the steam, and condense the steam into a liquid. This requires heat, pressure, equipment, skill and patience.
Can you please describe which one is best voda or oil??
Sure, best for what?
Smt I was looking for a pure lavender video…. Nextttt
Can I use the leaves of lavander instead the flowers? Thanks!
The leaves won't be as fragrant as the flowers, unfortunately
@@VanessaDixon Thank you sweetie! My lavender flowers are gone! I have to wait for next year! 😁
Dunno what kinda lavender u're using either French or English or any other but just saying cuz I do grow my own and I can tell my leaves have plenty of trichomes where the terpenes are produced which are a secondary metabolite of the plant that means are not estrictly necessary for growth or reproduction so the plant won't make them unless necessary etc etc blah blah and so they way I grow which is estrictly bio living soils it produces quite a lot of it and complex terpene profiles but anyways what I'm trying to say is that we're wasting a lot of it if only using the flowers as there can be a lot of trichomes in the leaves as well so we can add that to the mix and use it for compost afterwards anyways just like the rest. And about all those folks saying an extraction is not an "essential" oil, I suppose they emphasize on the "essential" part as there may be another components of the plant left but once the alcohol is evaporated and the oil, the fatty compounds, that's the trichomes, are extracted from the plant, what u think u're left with if not oil :? Maybe not "essential", but if not oil, can u tell me what's in there then :? Thanks. And thanks for the video, appreciated. Was wondering if heating the coconut oil wld help. And btw do ur own research and don't believe anything I'm saying but Linalool which is most present terpene in Lavandula has been proven to be effective in prevention of breast cancer, and even treatment. So there u go a bold claim but the research is there and imo it is a powerful use of this great plant on top of all the rest mentioned. Regards. Imo.
Could I use this in my diffuser
I'm not sure how it would go in a fiffuser, as it's not a true essential oil, but rather a lavender-infused oil
What can be done with the oily flower buds after extraction? I sense they retain much oil and could be used for somethiing
That's a great question. I haven't found a use for them yet (I usually pop them in my compost) but please share if you have an idea for them! Xx
@@VanessaDixon I was thinking they could be used in soaps or candles but I am not yet set up to make any so I poured boiling water over them and left them to stand overnight then drained the liquid off and bottled it in a dark wine bottle. I have labelled it Laveder oil/water to pour into bath water or face steamer.
@@glynisvanrooyen7010 Oh cool! I'd love to hear how they turn out!
Do you need to wait until they flower (open up)?
I waited until my lavender plant was in full bloom (so I had a lot of flower buds to pick)
Can I use this oil on a oil diffuser?
Yes u can
link to the black pot things thanks dan
Which one is better smell coconut oli mix levender or vodka ?
I found the lavender vodka had a stronger scent
@@VanessaDixon u mean mam in the bottle lavender + vodka? That was not water? I think it lavender and water😁
Can either one be used in a candle
They're scent isn't as strong, so I recommend using them for topical use and a true essential oil in candle making
i seen on a game days gone you can use it on burns
Can I dry the lavender in a food dehydrator.
Yes you can, you'll just need to have it on a low setting
How long can you use the oil? Is there like an exporation time?😅
I recommend keeping it for only 12 months, but if it goes rancid before then, discard it. My oils have lasted longer though, it really depends on how it is stored and making sure nothing contaminates it.
Can I use these lavender oils to repel mosquitos
I'm not sure how effective lavender oil is, I've heard citronella is much more effective at repelling mosquitos
You are amazing 😍.............
Awwww that's so sweet of you, thank you!! 😍❤❤❤
Why vodka? Can rubbing alcohol be used instead?
Rubbing alcohol unfortunately can't be used as it has too much of a potent smell of its own
I feel if your teaching herbal remedies you are an herbalist. Just commenting on your disclaimer. So many benefits from one plant. I live in an alcohol-free home. What could I use instead? Would just oil and flower work? I'm trying to create hair products using lavender. I love your accent!
Awww thank you! Yes you certainly can use an oil instead of alcohol, it makes a flower-infused oil
How long does the oil last before expiring
1 year
😂😂😂de flowered 🤦🏻♀️
But omg you have beautiful lavender!! Mine can’t handle the heat in CA and it’s wilting, so I’m cutting it & making oil out of it.
Oh that's awesome!! 😍🤩❤
Hi! I think that this is amazing, but you are not making essential oil. Essential oil has to be made by distilling, whereas you are making infused oil, when you let the smell infuse into the oil. There are some easier ways to distill essential oil, but it requires time and mastery, whereas infused oil is truly just putting thinks into oil and letting it soak.
Just stating the difference.
So this is coconut oil infused with lavender.. not lavender oil. Is it possible to extract oil from lavender ?
Only can use Coconut oil or can also use olive oil or other oil too ? And what is other one can you write the name too because my English not so good when you talk fast 😊
@@sweetkarn6468 great questions. I've shared more about the infused oils in my blog post, which I've linked in the description x
lol my lavender only took a couple days to dry
Will that not stain your pillow?
It can, so avoid any whites
You look familiar. Are you from the central coast by any chance?
How much Oil and flowers ratio ???
I fill a jar a third to halfway full with flowers, then fill the rest with oil
@@VanessaDixon thanks from Bangladesh 💖❤️
Why would anyone need a still for infused oils??
Title is confusing ... but, pleasant enough video
Sorry for the confusion. When I wrote it I was meaning I the sense that you can make a plant oil without the need for a still, as it can be done through infusion
How long can we store oil?
I keep mine for 6-12 months, but if yours is going funky before then, it's best to compost it
@@VanessaDixon okay Thank you hun
@@duafatima1550 you're most welcome xx
It's Lavender flower and Water...?
The first one is the lavender with liquid coconut oil and the second one is lavender with vodka
Liquid coconut oil is impossible in Seattle
How much alcohol evaporates from the oil?
It's hard to say, the longer you leave it, the more the alcohol evaporates
What you made was not essential oil. It was enfused oil
I used olive oil and it doesn’t smell like lavender at all, I was told I could use it
I haven't tried using olive oil before, so I'm not sure how it pairs with coconut oil
Do not listen to her. 1) none of these are essential oils. 2) letting it sit in oil doesn't make it lavender essential oil, the oil will pull oil soluble compounds and infuse it, yes, but that's not essential oil. 3) if u press herbs effectively, u CAN actually press the oil free, but it's very messy. 4) Tinctures need a MINIMUM of six weeks to fully pull alcohol soluble compounds from herbs and can sit for MONTHS before being used.
Can you tell me more
And the oil needs to be heated to help pull those tanins out
Is she kiwi "soooo keen" ... yup she kiwi
Isn't it only english lavender that is edible.
I'm not sure, I'll need to look into that
A explicação nao ficou claro ,muito rápido, na verdade ela diz duz mais não explica nada ,não ficou claro
Are you getting Dorothy Gale gives from Vanessa like she reminds me of Dorothy
Psalm 104:14 KJV
He causeth the grass to grow for the cattle, and herb for the service of man: that he may bring forth food out of the earth;
i crush mine i get a better result with alcohol
Oh great! That's fantastic to know, thank you for the tip
@@VanessaDixon i use isopropyl alcohol
@@bigbiemacaw Oh I wouldn't recommend isopropyl alcohol as it has it's own very strong distinct smell that doesn't really fade
Sorry, but you are leading people up the garden path! These are NOT essential oils. You need to distil to make essential oils.
How is it really done!! She just caused me to waste money on Liquid Coconut Oil and precious Lavender wasted!!
Just so you know essential oils are distilled.
Yes thank you 😊 These are infused herbal oils, something you can make without the distilling equipment. They contain the properties of essential oils, just in a more diluted form.
