From a long time Steinberger player: Look under the tuners. There's a knurled knob and a little lever. When engaged, the lever locks the whammy. Tune the guitar with the lock on, it won't be a struggle. When the lock is disengaged the whole guitar may go sharp or flat... don't panic! The knurled knob adjusts the spring tension of the whammy and will bring the whole guitar to pitch.
Cheers Scott - yeah that makes sense. I really should have checked the instructions first! I couldn’t believe all the saddles fell out. What a nightmare. I guess they stay in place if you only change one string at a time?
@@DunsysGuitarWorld On the bass side of the casting there's a very small allen key set screw that presses the saddles together once you set the intonation. That said, i DO change strings one at a time on all my guitars, theoretically keeping tension on the neck (probably only an issue in my head Hah!)
I had a Sprit GT model and the tremolo system is horrible, I returned it, the notch of that leveler that' supposed to keep it "locked" is too small and with a little pressure it snaps and the tremolo floats again, the pickups sound weak and muddy too
Great sound you are putting out with this, I would love to get a 5 string bass version of these, but I got on before and the frets were not level, so it only made sense to send it back. Great video.
Picked mine up a few days ago. I had one back in the late 90's and thought it was a great 2nd guitar for gigging. All my best from the Lake District 🎶🎶🎶🎶😎😎😎😎
Love mine. I chucked the stock pups as they’re pretty awful and threw in three new ones which cost as much as the guitar did. Locked the trem with the switch inder the bridge and the tuning stability is incredible. Everything else is top notch. Feels great to play sitting or standing. Highly recommended. I wanted one since I was 15. Got mine finally when I was 45 I use it in the band though I get a bit of shit for it. Don’t care.
They're tremendous mate. All the cricket bat jibes and all soon stop when they hear the mighty wee bugger in action! I used to tour with the ither model with the bigger body too. Firdt class.be good to hear it with the other pickups,as im fancying having mine changed too.
Aye, the pickups are okay, but I think a couple Super Distortions in there will make all the difference. And you can club folk ower the heed if they're cheeky aboot it, of course!
Dunsy, I very much enjoyed your video and review. Pretty cool Guitar Man, been seeing them since I think the 80's but never played one. Dig the info and killer jam at the end of your video Brother!!!
I bought one of these a while and love it. very worht the price tag. I take it away with me when I have to head off on business and I run it through a old pignose. I am keen to give it more grunt. Did you do a update video when you swapped out the pickups?
I used it on a couple of guitar cover videos and lessons after I had put a Dimarzio Super Distortion clone in the bridge, which I thought really improved the sound. I sold it to a chap who was travelling overseas for a few months and he needed something that would fit in his luggage.
@@DunsysGuitarWorld Thanks good to know - I have a few seymour duncans on the way so i can record some tracks for the stock libraries - good money there. Cheers

They started making them in indonesia in 2020. Same time they made the inspired by gibson epiphones in indonesia. I suspect they are made in the same production line as the epi's. Fretwork and finish is much more better than the chinese ones... I am absolutely crazy about these, they are my main guitars. After a while, anything with a regular shape and headstock started to feel weird to me... Now i'm stuck addicted to this shape, and to this playing position while sitting down and using the leg rest
I have a pair of Korean-made Steinbergers from 2003 - have an GT Pro Deluxe (HSS version) and an XT-2. They have held up quite well. Glad to see these aren't being made in China anymore.
Liked the Krokus t shirt but then it disappeared! No one of our generation did not have Metal Rendezvous. Triffic album. First heard Bedside Radio on the Friday Rock Show with Tommy Vance about 12 thousand years ago. Anyway, thought the Steinberger sounded good. Clean and overdriven. I noted with a chuckle how the first dirty toned riff you did was a Crue song. Looks That Kill. Daft song. Great riff tho! Mick Marrs was great at recycling riffs to make them his own. Piece Of Your Action be my favourite to hear and play - very satisfying. Enjoyed the demo. Nice one. Isn't Steinberger a beer as well? Cheers - PT. 🤘🏴🎸
Yeah, didn't want to wear the same shirt 2 days in a row! Took me bloody ages to get this in tune - not because it;s a bad guitar, just because I haven't tuned a locking trem in a decade or so! Krokus, what a band! Love them. I always try and sneak some Crue in, btw!
It was worth getting just for the photo opportunity, lol! Nice wee interesting guitar, likes. Will be interesting to see how it performs at a rehearsal. Probably get hoyed oot the band, mind you!
For me its either this or a carbon reinforced jackson. I need a strong neck due to humidity in my place. I was even thinking of getting the spirit and slamming a fixed neck relief position in place permanently with the addition of carbon rods that are glued in. I am pretty sure the spirit does not have carbon in the necks unlike the older models.
I just received mine two days ago. I set it up and it plays really well; easiest setup I’ve ever done 😊. One question I have is about the pickups. They appear to be on an angle; do you have yours set flat or raised a little towards the strings? Thanks!
The ones on mine were flat, didn't notice any angle tbh - I've swapped out the bridge one for a Super Distortion clone. Sounds a wee bit meatier to my old ears.
Other than a little truss rod adjustment, this one was fine I have to say. I took it to rehearsal with a friend who also had one, and he didn't report any issues either. That said, I have seen a few negative reviews.
As did Eddie Van Halen, David Gilmour, Leslie West and a whole bunch of others. You prolly heard a lot of Steinbergers in the period 87-95 and just dont know it. David Gilmours' Sorrow from Momentary Lapse of Reason was recorded using a Steinberger.
Never been a fan of headless guitars, but to each his own. I am unfortunately, not a pure "sound" guitar player, I have to be inspired with the visuals of the guitar, and this does not to do it for me unfortunately. Great review Dunsy!
Oh, I'm definitely the same - that's why most of my guitars are Les Paul's, I always go back to the same look. This is a very interesting guitar tho. I do a lot of travel gigs, so I wanted to see if this would be good for that. The pickups are okay, but I think it will sound a lot better with Super Distortions.
Nice thumbnail Dunsy. Congrats on the new tremolo equipped guitar. 😊 I wonder if it does positive pitches as well? You described it as floating, so you should have a half step or so. 👍
It was worth getting the guitar just for the picture opportunity! Yeah, it can bend up as well. I tend to be all about the trem for a week or so, then lock it and just go back to playing normally. I haven't used a guitar with a trem on stage since the 1980's - I tend to just take one guitar to shows and there's nothing worse than trying to find a hex allen key on a dark stage after a beer (or two..)!
Glad to see a proper Weegie review of this guitar - the last one I watched was a total hatchet job by an insane anti-vaxxer (don't ask me why that part's relevant - he made a point of saying it himself in the description). I used to have a Hohner G3T back in the eighties and I loved it to bits. Now I'm in my mid 50s I mainly play synths but I kind of feel that my Strats don't quite fit the synthwave aesthetic. I think one of these might be just what I'm looking for.
🤔 I think you can't give a serious review that is informed with 10 minutes of playing straight out of the box. It would be great if you played it and maybe tried to gig with it. You know, really use it for a while so that you have a better picture...🤔 thanks, though... I'll check back...
Ordered one in Hot Rod Yellow - can't wait. Everything about these axes looks "Formula 1" RACER!
Lol, yeah totally!

Yeah, the build quality is absolutely fantastic. It's funny as I much prefer the Indonesian Squiers as well, they're also super well made.

Very suprising to see Mark Knopfler play one of these on Money For Nothing on the Brothers in Arms tour
Yeah, and make it sound just like himself - great player who always has great tone.
my top E string slips off the very top fret due to the head-piece not truly aligned. other than this, its a great little guitar.

How much does it weigh? I keep seeing 7 lbs. as the weight spec., but that seems a little heavy for such a small body.
Would it work as travel guitar
I would definitely say so - fits in a reasonably sized case and the neck is solid.

100% agree, I thought the stock pickup was quite flat. Definite improvement with the Dimarzio in the bridge.
