    Interesting that these needed to be 3d printed. I'm surprised that someone (in china probably) hasn't made a sintered metal mould for them. Also would have expected that traditional CNC machining would have been more cost-effective for a batch run. I'm sure a hobbyist with enough time on their hands could have made most of them with simple hand fitting

      @@Zieh-Fix The only way that this could SOMEHOW be more economical than CNC milling/laser, is if you ALREADY owned the manufacturing hardware. AND you made them in ridiculously small quantities. Like a dozen sets. Total. Ever.
      Did you guys get conned by some 3d printer salesman? Or are do you not have anyone with manufacturing experience/expertise working for you? Your reasons literally don't make sense in the real world.
      Also, are you REALLY going to claim that these are direct metal printed? Because if they are, you must have some process that is DECADES better than what is being used right now. You should be trillionares with every major manufacturing company BEGGING to licence your methods.

    Another reason to get a set of keys like this is hospitality. I work at a hotel and people are constantly losing keys for things. So far, I have success with the TSA 002 and TSA 007 which are the most common to me in my region anyway. The 007 could be opened with city rake or worm or bogata with a small tensioner most of the time. I found that the 002 is especially vulnerable to a Sparrows worm rake even without a tensioner. Just insert, jiggle and I can turn it in seconds.

      The product is overly expensive. I mean: If you can get it on "someone else"/company money: Fine. There is real expense, craftsmanship, warranty, service etc. behind it.
      But: For the most common key ways, you can get the keys cheap from china. For the less commons keyways: Assume the lock cost 50$ dollars and the key set cost 400$: How many locks with uncommon keyways can you cut, before it becomes economical to buy these keys? (Noting again, that you can get the commons keys on ebay)
      also he did not show all keys in use (showing how uncommon those keyways are and thus how over priced the product is in terms of usage value)

      Michael Frey None of what you mentioned is Bosnian Bill’s fault. Except not showing that all the keys worked. Even then I think it was enough that he showed the 3D metal printed keys work. The more difficult keys to print were his focus. I think you might have missed the point of the video.

  • @robglenn4844

    For the keys that 3D printed plastic snapping was the problem, could you just leave a gap for a regular tensioner? That would take all the twisting stress off the key and it would only be used for raising the pins. It would probably have its own complications, and wouldn't work for some of the designs, but it would be a lot cheaper than these metal ones if you could get it to work.

    Weren't the locks worthless even without a master key?

    • @dbattleaxe
      @dbattleaxe 4 роки тому

      They are useful against pickpockets. Pickpockets will unzip bags, but they have to be quick and can't jiggle the bag too much as the owner is right there and possibly even wearing it, in the case of backpacks. The security level needed to make a pickpocket's job much harder is pretty low and if you've just come off a flight and are jet lagged, you probably don't want to be digging around for a lock that is overkill for guarding against pickpockets on the way to your hotel or hostel.

      @@greendryerlint So, instead of a TSA lock I might as well use heavy duty cable ties?
      Yeah, the TSA will cut the cable tie open (and so can a pickpocketer), but so will they cut open a lock, if they do not find the keyhole or key within "reasonable time".

    • @greendryerlint
      @greendryerlint 4 роки тому

      @@sarowie Did I say you shouldn't use a TSA lock? If you don't, all you're going to get is your suitcase back with the lock cut off. Maybe a cable tie too would be helpful though. • @sarowie
      @sarowie 4 роки тому +1

      well, the tertiary access (wire cutter) is also easy to access.
      But honestly: I might as well use a zip tie as tamper seal then a TSA lock.
      Sometimes even the TSA uses wire cutters, because they do not find the keyway.
      And even if they find the key way, they might trow the lock in the bag instead of locking the bag up.
      So really: a tamper seal is better then a lock, especially if the zipper of the bag could be bypassed in an other way.

    Is there a retro fit lock to upgrade an old hard side Samsonite with the standard key to a #6 TSA lock?

      @1234coolman tsa keys... But they're not always available as it's illegal haha, I think you can find theses keys on aliexpress or banggood.

    Is that cheaper than just buying 7 different TSA locks with different keys? It seems like that would be cheaper you would just need to source a set of locks with the best keys...

    • @mercuriall2810

      evilcanofdrpepper Of the TSA locks that come with a key (some are opened by the user by combination or fingerprint), the key you get is unique to your lock. They’re not one of the TSA master keys. You won’t get any of these master keys when you buy a TSA lock.

    Would it be possible to transfer the biting of the pin tumbler keys on a wiper insert or a feeler gauge and use that as a key? That could circumvent the breaking plastic problem.

    • @sarowie
      @sarowie 4 роки тому

      Transfering biting is easy. Any lock smith as a key copy machine that can transfer conventional cuts. Most also have the tools and expirence to transfer dimple cuts.
      Give a lock smith the right key, matching lock and a blank and it's not a technical problem.
      (You can also transfer conventional cuts via hand filling)
      Any mechanical workshop can also make a drawing of a sample and make copies based on the drawing.

    I've asked several times before on different sites and scoured the internet and still can't find an answer to what keeps the key pins from falling out? The image at the 1:01 minute mark illustrates why I can't figure this out.

    My mum had one of these that must have come free with a newspaper because it was a super thin cast alloy body and my mum lost the keys, i thought "The hoop(i was young i didn't know locks) looks thin and weak, i could snap it with a wrench". I got a wrench, tightened it up and didn't even get much tension on it, i would have gotten more tension on my finger before i felt pain, the whole cast body just cracked and fell off leaving the only strong part left(the hoop) on the zippers. It was a fabric suitcase with those cheap think zippers so you can imagine how badly made the lock was.
    I don't trust these TSA locks at all.

    Wait a minute, did he say that they aren't easy to pick?
    Is special that I managed to wiggle the zigzag shaped keyway open with an improvised rake?
    It was in my in my first month of trying to learn to lockpick.

      not all locks are made equal, even TSA approved locks. 007 and 002 are generally the easiest to pick. I don't have much experience with the others
      The only real reason to get these master keys is if you are dealing with hundreds of luggage locks a day or if you are being followed by the FBI and need to leave literally zero trace behind

  • @01cthompson

    It's entirely possible to grab the stl files for the keys, and order your own set off a site like shapeways, for example, to get a 3d printed metal key that works. twitter.com/jessthemullet/status/1221998157422182401 I did that for the 006 key, and you can get the 002 & 007 keys off ebay for a few bucks a pop.
    This is the latest repository for the printed keys, and these have all been resized and tested to actually work (with a few different handle options). github.com/johnnyxmas/TSA-Travel-Sentry-master-keys It's also possible to use some tougher plastics in the resin printers, which will hold up better than the fdm-style printed keys. I haven't had a chance to play with those yet myself, but I have no doubt you'll get at least a couple uses out of them.

      These are mostly designed for professionals. If the lock isn't to specs they can also be used to overturn the lock.
