Great info Nick! There's a lot of misinformation out there and guys harming their cars without realizing it. There's a reason you're the only one I let touch my car.
Good information. I have ran K&N filters on all of my cars for over 40 years and not single issue. Very surprised to see this. I wonder if other variables were involved in causing that.
Very common on all high-flow filters, and you won't spot it if you are not aware of it; this is easy to check for; remove the intake pipe, and you will notice dust particles caked on the throttle housing.
I'm looking to buy a 2011 997.2 that has a Fabspeed "Carbon Fiber Air Intake System" - is this something I need to be worried about? The car has only 19K miles on it - assuming I purchase it would you recommend re-installing the stock air intake? Thanks for your help.
Yeah, I fell into that trap when I 1st bought my 03 C4S. They do sound amazing but no discernible power gains. After a week, I had to remove the throttle body for something else and was amazed at the amount of dust stuck to the somewhat oily intake plenum. Needless to say, I immediately removed that POS cold air intake. Anybody wants a K&N Cold Air for a 996/997.1 for cheap? lol
I always wondered about that...that intake seal design is there FOR A REASON obviously. And these 'cold air' intakes sitting in the back of a rear-engine car, why is that air, drawn from the hot often dusty, dirty engine bay colder than exterior air drawn from louvers and sealed from the hot dirty cabin air? Plus they look stupid IMHO.
I’m not buying it fella….these engines get bore scoring from standard factory fitted air filters…..coming from a 997.1 owner…I’ve already seen bore scoring…ims failure etc etc…😢

Thank you John, the problem is some just want to make a quick buck instead of doing the right thing.
Great vid! Thanks for sharing!
Proof is there to see
Great stuff Nick
Great vid. I just throw in some BMC filters into my stock OEM air boxes and call it a day.
Good information.

What kind of intake sock can I put on the Fabspeed setup to prevent this from happening?
What about KN drop in filters with stock air box?

Thanks for the video! Is this an issue on the BMC filters that the 991RS runs from factory? It’s not a paper filter.
Yes, and I believe the 997.2 RS 4.0 also came with BMCs.

What about putting a sock on the filter? Would that help any?
It would
What about the BMC filters in the stock box?
Best is OEM of MANN. When I bought my 996 it had this BMC filter in the stock box. After my engine rebuild I decided to go with MANN filter.
That afe design is terrible 😩😖😩

Plasma??? 😂😂😂 don't you mean Alusil honed block. Plasma process is a different engine guys not found in the 997.2
M1a DFI turbo ENGINEs GT3 are plasma. He did say that variant so he is correct. Don’t be a wise a$$.
Plasma cylinders are in the gen 2 m1a motorsport engines.
If work good don’t change
