The USWA vs GWF Feud Vol.1

- Опубліковано 6 вер 2010
- From May 1992, Eddie Gilbert comes out during a Lauren Davenport interview unannounced. He talks about the USWA and how he went to the Global Wrestling Federation and won the World title. He also talks about the USWA open door policy and Jerry Lawler. This brings out Guy Coffey and Eddie Marlin. Tom Prichard comes out and challenges Eddie.
This is part 1 of a multi part series. Before the feuds with WWF and SMW, The USWA feuded with the Global Wrestling Federation from Dallas. Eddie Gilbert was fired/quit the GWF and brought the GWF title with him. Other guys featured in this feud was Bull Pain and Samantha, Steven Dane, Bert Prentice and Mike Samples as a Vince Mcmahon figure head character. It didn't last very long(only a couple months) because the head of the GWF, Max Andrews threatened to sue. Still this is rare stuff and pretty funny.
I was just more entertained by this 15 minutes here than I have been by today's current wwf stuff in forever. Wow. Now I've got to check out this fed and see what this was!
ESPN Classic is rerunning the GWF now.
I just figured it out! Rowdy Roddy Piper has been imitating Tom Prichard all these years! Who would've thought?
Gilberts mic work was underrated.
Most definitely! Like him or not, Eddie Gilbert makes an excellent point here...and by Mr. Guy Coffey coming out to have Eddie Gilbert removed from the building, why, it seems to me, that Eddie Gilbert was RIGHT! Jerry "The King" Lawler had been protected all those years, by people like Eddie Marlin and others within the CWA, then the
USWA Infrastructure, and Jerry didn't want to lose that.
Seems like it's always about connections. Either that, or about who someone is related to, that can use that "Pull" (Their influence, that is), and help keep the "Golden Egg(s) from getting away from them. The whole thing, as it relates to"The King", just seems so biased. They didn't want Jerry to leave...and that put Jerry in the perfect position to get whatever he wanted! Personally, a lot of people that wrestled in the CWA/USWA Time Period, were tired of being pushed to the back, so that their "Golden Boy", Jerry "The King" Lawler, could reap the benefits of it all!
Had they not handed everything to him on a Silver Platter, he'd of left a long time ago. At least, that's how I feel about the whole thing.
I miss this kind of wrestling... I like the sports enterinment pat of it & I like the real wrestling.
Memphis had some of the best and wacky storylines.
Tom Prichard's Roddy Piper impression is fantastic in this.
Jeremy Peeples no kidding, i'm not even sure it was intentional.
+Jason PDSI Toward the end of Prichard's run in Continental during which he became the top heel in the territory, he began channeling Piper during his interviews, not to mention weaseling his way into color commentary like Piper did in Georgia.
I was thinking the same thing.
Haha! I totally see it as well!
Haha! I totally see it as well!
Coffee looks like Nicky Santoro if he was an in-bred Klansman..
My Guy Coffee. He was with Memphis Wrestling around 70 yrs before he passed.
Wow, I was wondering if I was the only one who thought he sounded and acted a lot like Piper. Admittedly, that's the first time I've seen him on the stick.
Quick question: was Ernie actually Jerry Lawler's personal security? I have never noticed the "King's Bodyguard" shirt before, but that makes me wonder.
If the USWA has an open door policy then it shouldn't matter. If Eddie Gilbert wants to defend the GWF title then he should be able too
The real king Eddie hot stuff Gilbert is my favorite wrestler all time on memphis wrestling and the original ecw rise of the peace the real king Eddie hot stuff Gilbert and Tommy Gilbert
@CSAlmanac Yes he was Jerry's personal bodyguard. He died in 1993
Nice rug Guy Coffee!
I have loked everywhere for any GWF video's and its impossible to find any. Did any of their video library get released to buy? I know the promotion didn't last long, But I sure would like to see some of their vids, As always Thanks for posting.
Why does Tom Pritchard sound like Roddy Piper in his interviews?
Cause he sounds like Roddey Piper
Imitation is the sincerest form flattery roddy piper was a legend tom pritchard is imitating him vocally for that reason
Uhh,that's Pipers, son,a blind man could see it
Pritchard sounds like Roddy Piper.
"Guy Coffey was a joke."-🌐🌍🌎🌏🌐..
this feud only existed in the USWA as the GWF ignored it.
ANYONE HAVE FOOTAGE OF FREEBIRDS IN GWF-GORDY AND GARVIN HELD THE BELTS-93-94
I agree with that Roddy Piper poor man's impression. Any other time, Dr. Tom had someone else speak for him. Same thing with Stan Lane, except Lane was super great on the mic. Pritchard was better used as a tag team wrestler and was great with Cornette by his side.
@timmy8271b I always enjoy his shoot interviews I feel like he keeps it real and doesnt have a huge ego
I'm from Chicago Originally.Eddie Gilbert(who was in Windy City Wrestling in 88 & 89 with Paul E Dangerously)Tom Pritchard did NOT have any dates set up in Windy City at all let alone May 1992 when this was.If Tom Pritchard had Title shots in Windy City that would have been interesting.Ron Powers was Champion there so that would have made a great match.Mike Samson was another Champion(Middleweight) so that too would have been a great match as would Pritchard vs Mike Anthony who was Lightweight Champion.Gilbert was stripped of the title for failing to defend within 30 days. In reality, the GWF was no longer booking out-of-town talent due to budget cut-backs. Gilbert began wrestling for the USWA and defended the title as the GWF World Heavyweight Championship, despite having been stripped of the title upon his departure.
@timmy8271b The infamous bungee jump match was available on UA-cam just a few months ago. Now THAT was a five star match if ever there was one =P
Grey Pierson had taken over control of the GWF at this time.
Tom pritchard impersonates roddy piper
Tom Pritchard sounds like Roddy Poper
@timmy8271b yeah I have occasionally seen best of videos at walmart and even the dollar store.I bought a best of Booker T and a Steve Austin.I have also heard Chris Adams had found a way to purchase alot of the tapes and release them
NWA Championship Wrestling from Baton Rouge, LA.
So why was Eddie Marlin fired/suspended? I missed that part.
long before wcw vs wwf vs ecw
@timmy8271b Sorry to hear that.
@dasteelers75 He had his head shaved in 2004 on the air. Like McMahon, that was no rug lol.
Wasn't Joe Pedacino part owner of the GWF?
@REVENGEANCE206 I usually see Dr. Tom once a month and he still sounds like this. I don't think it's a imitation more than he is really Roddy Piper's bastard son.
Do Tom and Bruce still made at each other
@lambert581 From what I've read, yes.
Eddie Marlin.... Let me tell ya sumthin...
Dr. Tom Piper.
@BlistardPussy The title tournments(North American and Light heavyweight) are out there is most Video trading circles. Sadly not a lof of the ESPN TV run is available. I'd love to see some of that shit like Chris Adams ripping off Rod Price's hair piece or the 1992 run which seems to have been booked by a crackhead.
Dr,,tom,, Eddie,,was,, something in,,day
man I really like Dr. Tom but its pretty sad that the guy spent most of his career imitating Roddy Piper. He was really good on the stick I feel he would have been a bigger star if he would have been a little more like himself
So Hot Stuff was a Republican?
lmao!!
NWA Championship Wrestling from Memphis, Tenn.
Umm no it wasnt
@lambert581 Joe was gone from GWF by the time this happened.
@REVENGEANCE206 No Tom never had anything special about him
Who was the Man of the 90s lol
wow Dr. Tom, come on, why couldn't guys be original? smh...
prichard on the mike was a total rowdy piper ripoff lol
