    I'm still working through the VR Dev Chats - but it was highlighted in the Vertigo 2 chat that the gun animations have physics implications. For example, a slide coming to a stop causes secondary movements - to imply momentum that spreads through the weapon and hands.
    Saying this because I sometimes see comments here that miss the plot with Mr VR Voice's critiques. It's not about hating to hate, it's about reminding others of achievable standards.
    I'm looking forward to the "How a..." video!

    I think you're the only honest vr channel left.
    I remember a few notable channels had a few thousands subs, now they a hundred thousands. They hype these games up more than anything, i see their bs reviews on the store, that filter people over to their youtube channel.
    I'm glad i didn't get a quest 3. Meta is far from a quality gaming company and i their 3rd party devs are no different.

      I don't think all other youtuber's are lying, but for me it seems like MrV understands how to make VR MUCH more immersive. I don't even think everyone knew you could just chop up zombies, with so little effort. Most of us, would just chop zombies, the way we would do it in real life (sort of). One thing is for sure though, VR games still has a long way to go before you really get an optimal experience. I would still recommend playing VR, because it is MAD FUN and the best gaming experience you can get (imo). I remember how brilliant MrV was, when he talked about the game "Hubris" and went deep into more details how a medic should operate.. You had this part in the game, when you needed to take out splinters from a body. I was thinking how fun a medic would be in games like battlefield, if you actually had to remove splinters from your injured team players, thanks to MrV.

    I’m tired of VR games getting a pass for being mediocre just because they are in VR.

    Yup. Unfortunately this is the game. I was expecting a next-gen VR zombie shooter because Arizona Sunshine was the game that introduced me and lots of others to VR. This was the shooter back in 2016-2017 era of VR that pushed VR. The sequal just feels like the same game, just with a few improvements. Actually, the game takes many assets from After The Fall and recycles them into this game. VERY lazy. I would actually play After The Fall more than this game as there is more polish and replayability in ATF. However, I did enjoy the story in AS2 for what it's worth. The protagonist is funny, but the gameplay was shallow as F.
    This game made me realize one thing though. Who to trust in game reviews. Lots of UA-camrs who played the beta before the public praised this game before it came out, calling it one of the best VR games they played. It made me hyped, but what we actually got was definitely not worth the praise.

    While somewhat interesting, I had a weird feeling the trailer was hiding things from me.
    Thank you for these videos. You're a hardass, but that's exactly why I come here. VR has so much potential, and a extra critical view like yours is necessary to set the standard of quality that it deserves.
    Especially VR melee combat. I know exactly why it's a challenge to implement, since it's pretty much a new frontier. Sadly too many games seemingly treat it as an afterthought. When melee falls short in VR, I don't feel like my movements actually matter and immersion is shattered. In my opinion, Blade & Sorcery is still the best when it comes to feeling like I am actually swinging, stabbing having control over my weapon and that of my opponent. I can deal with some physics jank, if it means I have presence in the game. I have faith that BnS's developers can make something special with their next project when they build the game up from the ground with the lessons learned in mind.
    Are you planning on doing more full reviews? I always enjoy those.

    Talking of old Flat-screen regression, have you ever tried the Original Doom 3 in VR? As it turns out it's got everything we currently have in VR, but it's a flat-screen game that was forbidden to be VR by the higher-ups. Like it's got so much more, we could have had so much more.

    The melee is laughable. There's a part in the sewers where you fight agaisnt an armored zombie (which I assume would be bulletproof? I'm not sure since I did not shoot him) All I did was go up to him and waggle my machete around his head. It stun locked him over and over till he died. Terrible. It's like the devs never played The Walking Dead Saints and Sinners (or just didn't care about melee in their own game I'm betting)

    I came across this funny bug in this game where, if you looked at a beer bottle, the character kept saying "I'm thirsty," and the dialogue got stuck, repeating every 5 seconds. I initially thought it was some survival feature. Anyway, I still prefer this over games like The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners or Bonelab. Physics-based systems in games always feel a bit wonky for me, especially when trying to swing weapons faster due to simulated weight-the tracking tends to mess up if you swing too fast. Now, speaking of games like Assassin's Creed Nexus, they aren't inherently realistic. The sword fighting and parkour in this game are a bit of a joke in terms of realism. However, they manage to be satisfying enough in their mechanics, making it worthwhile to play.

    I feel like VR gets away with so much low effort because players are just happy to wave about their arms as they are still getting used to adjusting the focus on their new Quest 3s, this franchise always looked like high budget phone game.

  • @WikiPeoples
    @WikiPeoples 8 місяців тому +4

    Passing on this game for many reasons. Zombie shooters are way over represented in VR first of all. Second, if you're going to make one it NEEDS to stand out, and this does not. If the motion controls were flawless and if there was a deep implementation of survival with excellent animations and atmosphere, then maybe this would hold up. But it looks quite basic and apparently plays that way as well.

    • @andtor5981

      And it cost 50€ on top of that.

  • @andtor5981
    @andtor5981 Місяць тому +2

    The most dishonest part is the price. 50€ is a scam for the quality of the game. At best should have been around 30€ at launch. Apparently vr games are expensive, but this high prices already for low quality is not good.
    I hope for the game Metro and their future games they part away from this janky, snappy, very not fluid and low quality animations and interactions style they have, even in After the fall, while also being honest with the pricing.
    VR Is not comparable with flatscreen market and so on, but still mindblowing that:
    30€ was for The Witcher 3 at launch for the standard edition.
    With 45€ you can buy Divinity: Original Sin 2.
    30€ was for Disco Elysium pre final cut edition (They developed and self published the game like Vertigo).
    But then Lone Echo 20€ and Lone Echo 2 40€

    I just finished this game playing co-op with a friend, and we had a blast! This is actually a very fun game. This video makes the game look awful. And I actually agree with his criticisms. The game has some jank here and there and would be made better by addressing the issues he brings up. But they're not the be all and end all. There's a lot more to this game which is really well done.

    • @MrVRVoice
      @MrVRVoice  4 місяці тому +2

      Glad you had a good time.
      Which aspects did you think were particularly well done and why did you find it so fun, if you don’t mind elaborating a bit more?
      ‘Fun’ in particular is extremely subjective and used too haphazardly on a global stage where it doesn’t really mean much unless you know the person and their preferences.

    • @SargonDragon
      @SargonDragon 4 місяці тому +1

      @@MrVRVoice #1 Is co-op support. Playing with a friend. There are far too few games that support VR co-op play even though in my opinion this is the most important and underutilized aspect of VR gaming. And co-op support isn't just a checkbox. There's doing it meaningfully and providing presence and meaningful VR interaction between the players. And this game and After the Fall really do it well.
      #2 The challenge. I like games that have high difficulty and interesting challenges. And this game gets properly hard as you progress. Many reviews said it was too easy in co-op even on hard difficulty. Early on, I'd agree. But it gets really tough later. Something this game and After the Fall do really well is handling massive hordes of zombies and forcing the player to have to be smart on their feet. You can't gun them down fast enough to avoid being overrun. You have to figure out some other way while also bringing down zombies quickly and with accurate fire.
      #3 The environment and voice acting. It's a pretty game with beautiful vistas. And I really enjoy the voice acting as the guy really struggles with keeping his sanity. The jokes hit for me.
      Arizona Sunshine 2 is less polished at this stage than After the Fall. ATF has been a mainstay of my VR gaming group. We've enjoyed it a lot and have played it together for _many_ hours. Vertigo Games has a history of significantly updating and polishing their games over time, so I expect to see the same with AS2.

  • @TurtleMan2023
    @TurtleMan2023 7 місяців тому +2

    I know nobody asked but the game feels so clunky. Just look at the zombies when they attack they stop to swing their arms, and then they start running again. The gunplay feels super basic and the guns have no weight to them at all. If a zombie is in your face and you don't have a melee weapon, you just have to point and click with your gun. In other zombie games like saints and sinners, you can push them back with your weapon or grab on to them and push them back with really good-looking animations. In AS2, the zombies jitter around and aren't scary at all. Also, the zombies hit you from like 3 feet away on a regular basis. I just feel like im going insane because this game looks and feels like a shitty quest 2 exclusive even on psvr. The only fun part about this game is the multi-player and the dog (I guess). Also, the crafting system is so ridiculously basic that it might as well not be in the game at all. Everything in this game has been done better somewhere else. If you want a good zombie game with gunplay that feels fun and polished with a decent linear campaign mode and multi-player, play Surv1v3. If you want a zombie game with great melee combat and great gunplay that has a good crafting system and a fun open world, play The Walking Dead Saints and Sinners. I wouldn't be that bothered by this if I wasn't tricked into buying it because of all of the misleading reviews. If this is the bar of quality that can get 80s and 90s for review scores, then I'm not excited for the future of VR at all

    You’re kidding me
    Listen I agree with some of the points Mr vr voice has made but after watching this video all I have to say is
    Realy?
    That’s it?
    The biggest problem is that an animation is 1 frame long and that the zombies get stuck even though they are super unlikely to I even scrolled through different no commentary playthrough and this clearly show that it is not that bad
    Also seeing some other videos like the stride and others it seems you don’t even want to play the game
    The melles are meant to be super powerful and easy to use weapons that break quickly
    They are a quick power surge not a main mechanic. Also comparing a game made by a million dollar company is super unfair and even worse comparing a flatscreen to vr?
    While I agree that 1 frame animation is a bit off it’s still nowhere near as bad especially when some vr games don’t even have the slide mechanic
    Honestly I do understand that there needs to be some pushback of vr Hyperion’s and everything but personally I think you lean to much in the opposite direction

    I was considering buying this game day one but after seeing the reviews I'll give it a pass. I understand that making VR games is more difficult than flat games but that's not an excuse to release a game this janky.

  • @lerrok
    @lerrok 8 місяців тому +3

    While I agree that when highlighted much of the game fails under scrutiny, your footage deliberately exaggerates multiple things.
    For 1, I never had the enemies break at the helicopter sequence, but you spent nearly half the video showcasing it and comparing it to Left 4 Dead. That would be like taking a snapshot of Left 4 Dead's AI breaking and then suggesting it was representative of the entire game.
    Secondly you're only highlighting the worst case scenarios with the animations. Yes, if you deliberately move unnaturally a lot of VR games break honestly, so you could have at least shown what it looks like to swing the machete normally and not try to trigger the attack at the slowest swing interval possible. I'm not excusing it, but when you only show specific bugs and have learned how to jank out the animations for the most dramatic effect, it comes across as extremely bias. Most users will not be trying to break the melee combat so it's an unnatural showcase.
    This game shouldn't be praised for its mediocrity and we should expect better, but we don't need to exaggerate footage to achieve that, just show the actual game being played normally and it won't hold up.

    • @MrVRVoice
      @MrVRVoice  8 місяців тому +19

      “Just show the game being played normally and it won’t hold up.” = “Just ignore what you see guys, and pretend everything is a-ok. Pretend you actually need to engage and can’t easily exploit the immersion shattering jank implementation and presentation. Look, it has a dog guys! Doggy is sooooooo cute! Isn’t he a good boy!? Awwwww! Lalalalala VR GOTY!”
      I did nothing, zero, zilch, to try and make the gathered zombies break by the helicopter, they did that all by themselves with each reload of that same checkpoint. Similar group zombie jank also happened earlier underneath the ladder just after the helicopter crashes too.
      If these are the worst case scenarios according to your words, then the fact they’re happening *mere minutes* into the opening of the game is hardly going to leave a good impression, let alone give me confidence about the programming quality of the game to come, is it?
      “I’m not excusing it”
      But it feels like you want to when you then proceed to say…
      “You could have at least shown what it looks like to swing normally”
      Why should I show that? To what end? After it’s been demonstrated how pathetic and wasteful the implementation is, what use would it have to unnecessarily swing normally to achieve the same effect?
      Because…you want to defend this with the sentiment of “Yeah, but…but, if you just *pretend* and swing normally, it looks good, see, see!?” …is that it?
      It’s brain dead obvious to anyone (pun intended) that a normal swing will work if such a pathetic one already works, so your argument to show that makes no sense beyond wanting to partly excuse the waste of motion input it currently is.
      And if you really want people to see that, you can direct them to literally any. other. vr. youtuber. who did the usual round of disingenuous hype building.
      I organically experimented with the melee mechanics so I could understand what I, as a player, am required to do to be successful within the bounds of the game rules. And the disappointing sad result shown in the video is what I was quickly greeted with. I think this experimentation is a natural thing for a player to do, especially in VR where implementations can vary wildly.
      ‘It comes off as extremely bias”
      I’m so tired of reading this misused, flaccid retort when criticism is given -_-
      Let me reflect it back at you for a moment then…
      Why does your comment assume I purposefully *exaggerated* what I showed to foster a narrative, rather than that I encountered it normally, were disappointed, and proceeded to show it off…?
      Why do you assume or imply I, myself, purposefully tried to jank out the animations for dramatisation in this video, rather than encounter it organically as a hopeful player and be so despondent by the result that I was inspired to make this video…?
      Is it because you have a…[gasp] !bias!, toward wanting the product to not be seen like this, which will immediately cause you to want to paint me in a light of unfair ill intent…?
      We all have degrees of bias. It’s part of having a perspective and expectations in life, and we do what we can to be aware of it and remain open minded so not to manufacture those biases unconsciously, we vary in success doing this through our lives, some more than others.
      What you saw in this video was an, according to my bias, *extremely* disappointing montage of low quality, laziness, and jank that occurred in the opening 10 minutes of a product whose asking price and platform sets a standard which should be significantly higher.
      I was pissed off they were happy to ship it in this state for £43, with the basics of interaction detail being a downgrade, when my life experience tells me it has and can be done better as standard.
      I did not seek to find this critique, it found me. In fact I had high hopes and spirits going into this, owing to its reputation, reflected equally by the disappointment which inspired this video. No high hope = no desire to make a video.
      For what you said about my left 4 dead comparison…15+ years ago developers of any regard were much more likely to make damn sure this kind of presentation jank would rarely occur unless the player did unusual things to invoke it, or they got very unlucky. ESPECIALLY, in the opening of the game, which sets the tone for the whole experience and matters very much. It would have been shameful, embarrassing, unacceptable to allow that kind of jank to be present. All within the limits of the tech at the time of course.
      And that’s my point for the comparison, beyond a 15 year old game just being far superior presentation-wise to AS2, that you just didn’t see so commonly and easily, the kind of jank and regression for the basic details that you get in today’s standards.
      If I did find that jank in l4d occurring, it would be extremely rare, and even rarer to have occurred in the opening of the game if the developers had any sense.
      Imagine if the melee animations in l4d played out as limp and pathetic as they do in AS2, but still made the zombies respond like it was a forceful hit… it would be laughed at, a joke, and the devs would be rightly ridiculed for it. So why is this allowed to happen in VR…??? A medium which, VITALLY needs the details to be convincing and proper 10x more than flatscreen ever did because of 1:1 motion tracking and the immersion of being in the world!
      All of what you saw in this video happened naturally to me, I did not try to bug it out on purpose, the game did its thing alllll by itself.
      Those and other jank things I didn’t feature left a terrible first impression, and I am sick of being pushed to endlessly turn a blind eye to these avoidable failures of basic quality control which constantly break the experience and immersion.
      Want to stay within the circle jerk of PR hype commercialism where every new somewhat high profile release is !!INSANE!! and ¡¡SO MUCH FUN¡¡ with everyone vomiting the same hollow talking points and safe platitudes? Then this is not the channel for you if so :-)

      @@MrVRVoice If we want to ignore the jankiness and lack of polish, bad design or ignore the bugs...Its hard to pass over the outdated technologies/techniques they use, at the point where sometimes it looks more like an old flat game to VR mod than a native VR. As an example: smoke, flames or cardboard animations like gifs as background. And again, as I hope is obvious for all, at an insulting price.
