Upon finishing the game myself without any spoilers, I gave the game a 1 star review and I wrote a pretty lengthy review. My biggest issue with the game is there’s barely any guidance on where you need to go and what you are doing. I wish that this game was similar to stride fates as in, give us a waypoint for us to turn on in the settings if we are lost.
Speaking of which, the reason I compare this game to Stride Fates is because the controls are relatively the same, despite being made by a different company. You run on walls, run and gun down enemies, and do platforming. The only difference I sense is the fact that Stride Fates is in a metropolis whereas The Burst is in a desert wasteland.
Although I gave the game a 1 star on the meta store, I would change it to a 5 in a heartbeat if an update came out where I could turn on the waypoint and I could just use that to not get lost anymore. It really doesn’t take much for someone like myself to enjoy a VR game, especially when the main objective is doing fast paced platforming and destroying enemies like there’s no tomorrow; which is why I feel particularly volatile on giving this game a low score.
What I find the most jarring is on the quest store, people will write reviews and the reviews I saw were mostly named “Don’t buy yet” or “Wait until it gets polished.” ಠ_ಠ AS IF THE GAME IS STILL IN EARLY ACCESS XDDDD.

I'd love to know why this game was released as full game, not Early Access.
BTW. The Polish price of this game is the second highest in the world (Valve's fault, but devs can fix it). I informed the dev about it few weeks ago about it, they promised to adjust the price before release, but they must have forgot.

If i would plan development i would launch the demo while nothing else is made, so the 9 months would be spend making all the missions not in the demo. So that would explain why nothing got fixed. But if you have a 20 person team the level designers would not be the AI developer so it would not be possible to only add more missions while keeping everyone on the team working.

I can't help but think the AI is a skill issue on the devs' part, or they felt it wasn't important.
We have had good AI since the dawn of FPS games; Wolfenstein, Doom, Half-Life, Halo. However, these examples were all developed by highly skilled programmers, and AI is very difficult.
It seems they either couldn't make the AI better, or decided to focus on the movement, which is unfortunate if that is the case, since the movement is let down by the pace of combat.

There has been a failure of generational knowledge transference from the devs of yesteryear to the devs of today, both systemically and directly. Plenty of other factors involved obviously but their wisdom & philosophies clearly have failed to be passed on.
Jonathan Blow made a talk about this years ago: ua-cam.com/video/ZSRHeXYDLko/v-deo.htmlfeature=shared

I was thinking a lot about this today. The best way I can describe this is that you can have 20 people on your development team but if nobody on the team has a skill level above a 5/10, that team can never make better than a 5/10 game. Comparatively, a one-man team where the guy has a 10/10 skill level, he'll make a better game every single time.
It's like why the AI is so bad in BoneLab or Blade & Sorcery. They already make a ton of money, free marketing, and have access to larger teams than most. They have every advantage. The problem is that whoever already works there whose job it is to handle those tasks is not good at it. Even someone who could theoretically come in and fix their AI, they wouldn't want to join those teams because their fear would be that they'd be held back or stifled in some way by the incompetence of others on the team, including leadership.
Not only that, but adding more and more people has diminishing returns on work speed. One guy might take 2 years to make something. But ten guys might still take 1 year to make the same thing. It's a wonder to think what this team even did the last 6-8 months.
No matter how big a team is, if they lack skill then their excuse will always be that they're not big enough or don't have enough money. It will never occur to them that maybe they're just not good at it. Money can't buy planning or attention to detail it seems.

This is an interesting release. I think there is a great game trying to get out Everything has so much promise and there are moments that come together where you can see what the devs vision was trying to be and you wish it was what you were playing 100% of the time. Unfortunately, it feels unfinished in so many places.
The good news is that the devs haven't just dropped the game and run, they've acknowledged the negative feedback and have made a commitment to update and improve it.
People have asked me if they should buy it and I have to be honest and say no. I am personally having enough fun not to get a refund and to see the game through but it needs those updates to appeal to a wider audience. I am rooting for the devs to learn from this experience and to have this game reach it's potential.

you would be an excellent game designer. even if you have no experience in programming, modeling, etc, just you making decisions on how to make the game good would be a totally viable job for you.

This is a big misunderstanding in game dev. Being able to criticize and theorize does not translate into good game development skills. I respect Mr vr voice but people completely underestimate the skills required for game dev. Mr vr voice here is a critic.

    • @SkeleTonHammer
      @SkeleTonHammer 2 місяці тому

@@ouagagamer3798 It's a little bit of both. The developers of this game, if they had the sense Mr. V did to notice things that are missing, would have done these things. Because a lot of what Mr. V is complaining about isn't remotely difficult to implement, it's just a matter of caring enough - or noticing enough - to do it, like footsteps and jetpacks making no sound and such. The core experience seems very slapped together, then they said "good enough" and never touched it again and moved on to cranking out content.
Before someone says anything, because every time I suggest something isn't that hard people go "hey man, making games is hard, how would you know" I am 38 and have been making games since I was a teenager. Footsteps would take less than a full weekend to implement. Missing sounds for gripping, for enemy jetpacks, etc. would be less than a day of work. Again, not me making up figures, this is how long it takes ME PERSONALLY to do these things.
