Check out this amazing alligator wood carving which is a frighteningly realistic rendition of ferocious predator. Scott Dow, 54,a wood carver specializing in chainsaw and power tool sculpting, from Corry, Pennsylvania, used the carving skills he has gained for the last 15 years to help create this incredible alligator carving. Scott said: "I went to art school for drawing and then I did a Master of Fine Art in sculpture in the 90s, then worked in design and manufacturing for 15 years...one day I discovered the market in chainsaw carving and started carving the next day."

Its amazing to me , on how the tools we have acess to have changed the nature of how we can create things .
I would also challenge our views to consider the nature of our words in describing these new processes .
I am not being critical of the " artistic quality, which is obviously profound " . However, I challenge the use of the word " carving " as to the beautiful " sculpture " as in , origins of word , to carve , is to cut . Theirin by use of knives and gouges . Here , is use of rotary tools , chainsaws, all power " appliances . Herein is my case in point.
This is a beautiful " wood sculpture " however it has not been " carved " in the classical sense .
I would agree , that the speed of tools , has increased ability to produce , and this Man , is producing beautiful works indeed .
But I do also hope , he will time to time , unplug things , pick up the knives , the chisels, the mallets. And works as a woodcarver , in a manner more connecting to the medium .
In this fast past world we have created , we oft forget the world that is . This world that is , is unplugged . I often feel we have lost connection due to the fact by the means of our production and transportation ,wherein we go so much faster than we are designed to go .
Traveling at over 100 k , you get there fast . But never touch the ground or truly see or understand where you have traveled through.
If we love this natural world to which we produce beautiful works to speak so of it .
Would it not be logical if at times , we could decide to create it in a manner that also respects it by going at her pace ? .. slow down at least once in a while I challenge all .

Beautiful work! Not much for the vague presentation though. Sure it’s the prerogative of the artist on how to display their work. I for one want to see more of the intricacies of the artist’s handiwork. The long shot is not your friend. When showing the fine points and a close-up view of the piece. The true beauty of your efforts shine through the details of your work. I don’t want my critique to be taken harshly. It’s just given because I think your work is insane! It looks like you used the piece’s growth rings as wake and disturbance waves. Brilliant! Wish I could see it clearly. If you do nothing else…throw some light on your work!! You know, don’t hide your light under a bush type of deal. Also real lights.
