My disappointment is immeasurable, and my day is ruined. That’s how I felt knowing we weren’t getting green Chris. Just know if you pull a stunt like this for Shrek 5 we riot
I’m 80% sure the second half of the show is why the show was split up into two movies in the first place. It takes place years later, jumps around time, a lot, rushes EVERYTHING and is the most tonally confused part of the musical. I have a feeling Jon M Chu expanded the second half to make it more coherent and to make the crazy things that happen hit harder. Because in the show, it’s just crazy thing and revelation after another and then some random humor is thrown in and it’s jarring. If Jon M Chu goes full dark, the second half of Wicked will be like Empire Strikes Back/Return of the Jedi of musicals.
I came here ready to claim "False advertisement!" When I saw Chris didnt have the green face, then in the first 5 seconds, he owned up to it lol good guy, that guy.
Jon M Chu was born to make musicals. With "In The Heights" and now "Wicked", he gets a free pass to do whatever Broadway musical he wants to adapt. I would love to see him adapt "A Chorus Line"
@Sharpe1502 Oh, damn please do Something Rotten. I have not yet seen the musical but I enjoyed some of the songs. Anything with Christian Borle sounds good

Wicked was a 1995 novel by Gregory Maguire before it was a Broadway production. Jon M. Chu had stated that he mainly took concepts from the novel and was heavenly inspired by the Broadway production to make this adaptation of Wicked happen. He wanted this movie to be very authentic like the stage production and didn't want to cut anything out from the source material.
Having seen both, I can tell you that the movie is literally the broadway show adapted into a more elaborate version for the big screen. He didn't rely heavily on the book with a touch of the play involved. The movie is literally expanded act 1 of the broadway play. And amazing.

hey chris, huge wicked fan, and also a fan of yours. just wanted to chime in and say, part 2 has a LOT in store. act 2 of the musical is kind of known for being a little bit rushed. while they probably could have crammed everything into one film, it would have those same pacing issues, so splitting it up into thinkwas a good choice. while you could probably just make a pretty good guess at what happens next, there are so many fun and interesting things that come in the second part, and with the extra time the movie will have i’m so excited to see how they expand on it. without any spoilers, i’ll give a quick overview of what you can expect and why part 2 still has a lot left to explore: - glinda now works for the wizard, becomes a public figure, etc. - we get to see elphaba and fiyero’s relationship expand, and how glinda is a part of that - we see how the scarecrow and tin man come to be. - we see the origin of the Wicked Witch of the East (known in the Wizard of Oz story to be the wicked witch of the west (elphaba)’s sister, who we know in Wicked is Nessa) - we see what goes on with Elphaba and Glinda DURING the story of The Wizard of Oz with Dorothy arriving, up to when she kills the witch! anyways, loved your review, it makes sense since you’re coming from the perspective of general audiences rather than fans of Wicked like i am. i’m excited to see how part 2 comes out and how you’ll react to that one!! love your videos!!!
1) The character's name is Elphaba with an "E," and the author (of the book) came up with it from the Oz creator's initials: L.F.B. 2) The final song is titled "Defying Gravity." And for me it's absolutely a belt-out-in-my-car-slash-shower song because it's kinda the ultimate misfit-theater-kid anthem, but I can see it not being one for regular movie fans. I suggest looking up a video of it being sung at this year's Elsie fest by Rachel Zegler and some others just to get an idea of the feel of the song when it's a room full of people going all out (even if they're off key). 3) ^Defying Gravity is part of why the movie was split (because yeah, as someone who loves the show but was also grateful that they fleshed out the story more, I do agree that it was thirty minutes too long). It's such a musical and dramatic high point that anything immediately after it has trouble holding up. It's where the intermission is in the stage show. Plus, there's a small time jump. Now ME, I think that we should just go back to having movie intermissions like they did with Gone with the Wind and the Sound of Music, but whatever I guess they want two Oscar seasons. 4) While there IS a fair bit of CGI (the flying, the very fake-looking lion cub), the overwhelming majority of the sets were real. The Emerald City, the train, the tulip fields, the boats on the water arriving at Shiz, the Wizard's room...all of those were real sets. So your problems with the lighting are with the actual lighting, not CGI/green screen. 5) Yeah, you know I was really curious as to what the reaction would be of someone who didn't like musicals or just wasn't familiar with the stage show, so I really appreciated this take!
Awesome review 3C Films I will be checking out wicked when it comes out on digital also when are you going to review red one I am dying to hear your review on that film anyway keep up the good work ❤

John has come such a long way since Jem and the Holograms. I’m wondering how much of Jem was actually his fault and how much of it was the studio’s. Hearing that he NAILED Wicked has me really excited cause I was really and I mean REALLY nervous when I heard he was announced as director. I’m a huge fan of the stage show and have been waiting years for a movie adaption. I unfortunately will not be able to see it until December cause I’ll be out of town for a week and I already made plans to go see this with my wife and do a double date with other friends of ours who had been wanting to see Wicked as well. Glad to hear you liked it Chris.
2:20 The misunderstood villain trope likely originated in screenwriting or in actors who play villains always saying, "My character isn't a villain; they are misunderstood." Hollywood for the past 30 years has told its actors to look at their character [the villain] as a person who thinks they are the hero. OK, in reality, many evil people think they are the hero. In film, the RIDDLER in THE BATMAN did it best, thinking he and Batman were actually working together to stop the crime boss Falcone. That was a great revelation for the Riddler to be rejected by Batman and show Riddler as being insane.
I watched it today at the early fan screening of the film, and I was entirely surprised. I had never watched the stage play or known any of the songs, but I’d love this 'Wicked' movie. One of my favorite things about movies or even TV shows is that if I don’t like the main characters, I don’t continue watching, but I love these main characters, Galinda, and Elphaba. The songs were great, and I was surprised by the action. The costuming was great, as were the set design, the building designs, and the CGI. I'm seeing this movie again on Tuesday. I give it a 9/10; it's my favorite movie of the year! It surpassed Deadpool.

I want to know when and where they genuinely used their live audio tracks from the exact take they show on screen in the film.
One of the things that they touch on in the musical which I knew they weren't going to touch on in the movie is the fact that people were so racist against her because usually people only get that green skin when one of the parents is ingesting things or that can genetically mutate you it was more acceptable for a natural mutation to happen such as talking Bears and Lions as opposed to a forced one
