Thanks for this. I too had always presumed these were simply lower-volume versions of their full-size cans but your review says otherwise so I might have to give them a go.
Fantastic video as always my friend. I really love using these small cans for small paint jobs and I can almost always get them on some kind of discount and or clearance. Thank you for sharing and Can't wait to see what's next. Everyone keep yourselves and love ones safe and healthy and remember to SMILE 😊God Bless 🙏
Great test video. I have used a few colors from the Short Cut's line with very good results on my models. I like the variety of materials you used for the tests👍
Thanks for the quick informational video on the Ktylon short cuts an the colors are nice An thanks again for the time and effort you put into are videos 👍🏻👍
Sprayed Short Cuts on my Revell‘53/‘54 Gasser two tone green over Tamiya primer. Worked great. Didn’t lift when removing tape. Nice gloss without clear.
Thanks for the review. I'm a fan of using cans for priming. I recently found Krylon color master with cover max (flat black) to work super well. Really even, thin coat with no problems arising down the line after airbrushing over with both acrylic and lacquer. I'm now going to give Montana sprays a try. $7 for 400 ml of high quality paint is very appealing.
Oh wow just 92.8k subscriptions good going BR. It wont be too much longer for 100,000 subs. Cant wait on your new paints, and the other stuff your working on. Thanks for paint test video.
Looking forward to the new paints coming out. Thank you for the video as always finally found your Instagram so I can follow it. Hope everyone has a great week ahead of them. Be well be you
Love that you did a bend test! I use Krylon sprays for my EVA foam props and costumes, as well as styrene and Lexan sheet plastic. Nice to know they are still flexible. Also great that they work for model kits! Thanks so much!
Thanks Robert. Looking forward to the candy test. Also, WalMart carried the short cut on line. They range from $6 to $9 per can, but that also includes free shipping.
Never used it yet--we will see how it is--Krylon polishes out real well when thinned with lacquer thinner-sometimes I paint the spoon half white-and half black to test pearl colors
Cant speak to the current formulation, if it has changed in anyway, but Krylon was my go-to model car paint for years (it used to be extremely "hot" and could craze styrene if applied with the can). Built mostly 1/43, but all other scales kits, and color changes for die casts, for about 15 years in the 80s and 90s, selling to collectors, retailers, car clubs, etc.. Though I used other brands and automotive paints, the majority of my work was painted with decanted Krylon. Sprayed through an airbrush as if it was meant to, no thinning required (Paasche H-5, 25 psi). Beautiful self-leveling finish and responded really well to polishing. Their Crystal Clear gloss, satin, and flat are among the best I ever used (you have to be careful and limit their use over only another Krylon color). A can lasts forever (I still have some OSHA Purple on the shelf I bought in the 90s).
I used these with the GSI Creos Leveling Thinner and they worked a treat. Krylon seems to work on just about anything it seems. Stay away from the Krylon white primer, though. So many particulates even when used out of an airbrush.
Great paints, but in the UK the cost is way over the top, i.e. for 1 can of Krylon Gold Leaf Metallic - costs $47.69 including postage off eBay, and 1 can of Kylon Leaf Green (set of 6) costs $84.56 which works out at $14.09 per can off Amazon. Still one of your biggest video fans.🥵
Robert, nice video. I like all the colors, tho the raid drop did not do much for me. Would these be worth decanting for airbrushing? And if so, how much ,if any, thinning would they need?
Great video, useful review. I paint wargame miniatures (metal, hard plastic and resin), resin cast building models, and hard plastic scale railroading kits, I have gotten a ton of paint and tool tips from your channel.
I've used Krylon on my outdoor train freight cars for years & never had a poor performance from Krylon paints.I use all flat finish paints, also overcoated decals with UV resistant clear flat. Paint has lasted many years in all forms of weather. Have used the Chrome Silver on delrin plastic trucks which the paint has stuck on for several years of handling. So far no flaking.
When I was a lot younger.I used to go to benny's and get the Shortcut paint in spray cans and also in 1 oz jar for my model paint Didn't have any hobby shops in fallrive and did not have Internet. Bradleys And Zare or Mccorys didn't have much paint
seen a guy use the gold and another color turned out great but i always decant first still it seemed to spray nice out thx 4 the vid love all of the awesome stuff 😁🤩😎
Tamiya finally fixed it. They sent me an apology letter, and two boxes of assorted paints, some of which I didn't order because expensive, and they gave me a coupon for 50% off. Everything is right in the world again.
I have to deal tamiya before on some short parts for one of their 1/32 scale F4 Phantom II. They sent a whole kit replacement and the 50% coupon. This was in 2013. They gold in my book. Good hear they treated you right as well.
I'm trying to match the color of Jim Rockford's 77 Pontiac Firebird Esprit, I've tried three different types of gold, but none match, got any suggestions? I can order the paint code for automotive paint, but it is very expensive.
Grab the Short Cuts “IRIS” if you see it. Nice deep bluish purple. Like the Grimace character from the Ronald MacDonald Gang. Different than the full size Krylon “Iris” color.
Why do you need a machine to shake them up ? I use krylon and they work just fine . I use to use testers spray paint , not the best. But there Rustoleum brand is much better. Mr hobby and Tamiya are great but pricey.
I've always wondered about these. Excited for the review!
Thanks for this. I too had always presumed these were simply lower-volume versions of their full-size cans but your review says otherwise so I might have to give them a go.
Impressive review. Never in my mind thought you would be testing Krylon paint to see if it would be suitable for hobby build application. Nice job!
Thank you!
Thank you for the reviews I really appreciate it and watch all the time
Glad you like them!
Great video Rob, keep em comin I'll keep watching.
Awesome more options.. thanks for the video

I use the silver and the flat black exclusively on my models. The silver also looks great when hit with a dull coat.
Wondering Rob if that chrome might polish out to a higher shine to The point it might mimic chrome

The rain drop or says matte on the can. The tangerine is supposedly gloss.
you did it again, another killer video

Cant wait on your new paints, and the other stuff your working on.
Thanks for paint test video.
I remember I used the Krylon short cuts paints back in the 80's. got them at walmart when they sold model paints, not a bad paint to use.
I would love to see a chrome video comparing duralumen, alclad, alumaluster and sealers/clears and how they all stack up against each other.
I'm really curious how that nocturne red looks with a bright candy red over it...
I'll show that
Looking forward to the new paints coming out. Thank you for the video as always finally found your Instagram so I can follow it. Hope everyone has a great week ahead of them. Be well be you
Great review as the norm from you.
Much appreciated!

If memory serves me correctly, I believe they are an acrylic enamel from asking Krylon about them a while ago.

Will have to get a few cans for that price!
Great Review
Thanks

Great video...thanks! Definitely would like to see the candy colors over that silver and gold!!

These decant good,, just add a couple drops of Leveling Thinner
Thank you for the reviews I really appreciate it

I had to sub.. let's get this guy into the 100k club.. definitely earned it.

I was about to buy the 20 dollar metallic gold Tamiya can for a look that the short cut provides, not bad! Thanks for info

Back to... DaBenchhh!!!
All are welcome

That's great news, a nice conclusion to the story

How will the paint hold up to contact? Like rubber push buttons that will have regular use?
From my understanding that the Krylon shot cuts psaint is just tester paint. I could be wrong. But that was what I was told.
Well that would be interesting. Since rustolemun killed the model master line up
I'm trying to match the color of Jim Rockford's 77 Pontiac Firebird Esprit, I've tried three different types of gold, but none match, got any suggestions? I can order the paint code for automotive paint, but it is very expensive.
I bet that gold would look good with a green over it
How many painted spoons do you have in your possession?
Too many but I use them for reference
Is that enamel good info thanks
I like this metal effect! So you use a primer to enhance the effect of the metal? A grey one right?
Correct
does anyone know if these will stick on well with marvel, legends, action figures they have a rubbery type plastic without leaving any sticky residue?
You will probably need something like Vallejo Premium Airbrush Paints, it's a flexible paint but it needs to be airbrushed
Excellent video. Thanks for doing the footwork. Oh, Amazon...$13 on up...ugh
Are they from hobby lobby ?
I got these at Hobby Lobby
@barbatosrex9473 what are a good set of nippers out that you would stand by.
Check out this video
ua-cam.com/video/QVQmWE-qIvk/v-deo.htmlsi=NrjW-Gd3vJHDGlst
I found them for $10 on Amazon, whereas the full cans are $6 :)
Grab the Short Cuts “IRIS” if you see it. Nice deep bluish purple. Like the Grimace character from the Ronald MacDonald Gang. Different than the full size Krylon “Iris” color.
I'll look for it
Are these enamel paints? When I do see them at Hobby Lobby, the color selection is not so good. Why is it no store has a complete selection anymore?
Definitely enamel.
I'm 90% sure Menard also carries them.
I would love to win the swallowtail since the one I got hasn't worked right since new.
"...free and not numb." what every American should be!
Amazon has it. Higher price.
Why do you need a machine to shake them up ? I use krylon and they work just fine . I use to use testers spray paint , not the best. But there Rustoleum brand is much better. Mr hobby and Tamiya are great but pricey.
It's a because I have one I use it. The paint mixer sits right there so I just reach down and use it. It's that simple.
It's not chrome, it's glorified silver!!!
