I remember seeing these shorts at MGM when I was a lil’ kid, seeing the tour of the studio, and several years later I graduated with a degree in animation. Who could’ve guessed the seeds they were planting. 🥰
2:24 "do you really think the people will feel for me?" - Robin "Oh certainly." - Walter Still feel for Robin Williams to this day. Ceaselessly remarkable.
Good God! This was one of my regrets when I visited Disney-MGM Studios back in Christmas 2006. All this was gone when I finally visited that year sadly, but nevertheless this was such a thrill to see real animators working on real productions at the park those years ago. Traditional hand-drawn animation was always the key to a great Disney movie. Computer animation is far much more advanced and better, but nostalgia can never be beaten on such a medium.
Hmm... Okay, I get that this is from a VHS analog camera tape, and that it was loaded & posted on UA-cam 8 years ago. But...exactly when was this tour taken, and how long ago was this recording made?
Somebody on here said it was called "Once Upon a Mouse" but that was made in 1981 and was released with _"The Fox and the Hound"_ in theaters so it can't be "Once Upon a Mouse"
+RatiganRules I don't remember it having an official name but on Wikipedia they claim the it's called "Classic Disney" and I think that maybe how they introduced the film in the tour before it played. This is the original version of it though, which doesn't include anything after "The Black Cauldron" which came out in 1985. The film was made for the Disney/MGM Studios Park which opened in May 1989, and that first summer on the tour you could see them inking and paining cels for The Little Mermaid which opened in November of 1989. (In this video they appear to be painting cels for one of the Roger Rabbit short cartoons 13:21) I was there that first summer and I remember thinking how strange it seemed that Disney was making a movie about a signing mermaid, because they had just done singing cats and dogs in "Oliver and Company" ...Now The little Mermaid has a Ride, a Stage Show and a Hotel in Orlando, back then no one had a clue... as Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Lion King, came out and were all big hits, clips from those "New Classics" got added into the film at the end
I get the park had to evolve with the times and couldn't stay themed to the magic of movie making, but something about shutting down a literal active animation studio still feels a little tasteless imo.
Wish they kept this. That way people can learn behind the scenes of what animation is like. Plus, animation is what Disney is famously known for.
They always said Walter had a hard time keeping a straight face with all the talents of Robin

Damn I wish they still had this

Saw it in 1998, sad to hear when it close down in 2004, assuming this was the Florida one, could have been Burbank.
@@MathadarYou did?
@@MrTimshellscherber Yes. IT was so neat! I was wrong actually, I saw it in 1999, not 1998, I was 12, almost 13 when I saw it. It was so cool!
@@Mathadar Nice.
His favorite being Peter Pan, and then starring in Hook later on. ;_;
my first introduction to robin williams was on this attraction back in 1991. may he and the original art of animation tour rest in peace :(
My guess is they were either in the way late production of Aladdin or in the editing process of making it. May he rest in peace.
I miss this and I love it!

Man this is amazing
I wish I could seen this when it was still in Disney world
Thank you for posting this. We can use it to tell our children that once upon a time we used to hand draw our cartoons :P
Dragonrider1227 now you have to go to Korea for that
@@musiccg223 I don't hate it but it never should've fully taken over like it has. Even Pixar doesn't think so.
Thank you for uploading. I've been looking for this for quite some time
When was this made?
When I was there I never got to tour the animation studio
