    My 670 on my Avid Mk IV is nearly a drop in from the 582, same mount. The weight difference is very small. Typically about 15 lbs total for the engine, exhaust, extra prop blade and electric fuel pump

    I also have an Avid Flyer mark IV tail dragger with a 670 Rotax which I acquired used several years ago. After working out all the problems in the airframe, engine and fuel system it is ready to fly, but I cannot get it to make a straight takeoff run down the runway centerline. It most always wants to make a sudden radical left turn when full power is applied causing my take off to be aborted. What sequence of events do you use when you are taking off? You never seem to wander from the center of the runway. Please advise with your technique.

    • @dcavidflyer3073
      @dcavidflyer3073  4 місяці тому

      You may want to check the alinement of the gear. A darting to the left might be due to that or even a sticking brake pad. If I recall the rotax blade spins in the opposite direction from a Lycoming or continental. These engines will cause the plane to pull left due to the torque, also coming up on the mains will make you go left due to gyro effect. I do not think this applies to the Rotax. If its just engine force pulling you left and not misaligned gear or sticking brake. Try applying right rudder and pushing power in slow. Also recommend getting a CFI who know tailwheel and Rotax to fly it.

    How do the motor mounts fit?
    Is it fitted for flight. Dual ignition system?

      They are a blast man. Stall speed is around 35-42mph. Plans might be hard to come by you can look on Barnstormers for kits not finished, avidfoxflyers.com/. These would be your best bets. good luck.

      @dcavidflyer3073 thanks I'm going to look there to. I looked at the files on the world wide avid flyers on Facebook. And they had some plans for Avids and the knock off the Raven. Buying one would be probably be my best bet but building one would be fun.

    No videos lately, are you still working on it? I talked to Rotax Rick today about my 618. I’m sending it to him and was looking forward to see how your 670 is doing. Are you happy with the build?

    • @dcavidflyer3073
      @dcavidflyer3073  Рік тому +3

      hey I built the plane up flew it and sold it. I really did like the 670 performance. You will see a big jump in STOL activities. I did not set my prop up for cruse but to get off the ground quick, so I can not contest to the cruse. From what I know you would see some gain in cruse speed, but this plane and wing/gear/tires had so much drag. I sold it because I wanted a plane with more room, so I purchased a 170B. I really do love the plane and 670 for fun get out and spend a few hours flying.

      So from when the plane was built to now I gained 50lbs. I did not do a WB when I put the new gear one, I know I should have. So to sum up, new gear, bigger tire and 670 swap I gained 50lbs. Hope this helps.

      If somebody wants to compare the weight of a 670 against other rotax Motors there is a website I can't remember off the top of my head but there is a website that allows you to do a rough estimate it's not it's not going to incorporate the weight of the bigger radiators required in little knickknacks that do add up but for a rough ballpark idea and then look at horsepowered weight ratio somebody can pull up Road tax engineering specs for a comparison table and then get a rough rough idea and if they want to pursue it then they have to do a little bit more homework but for anybody out there that wants to do that it can give you an idea whether it's a good upgrade or not but I think everybody watching this video can see this is now a rocket ship upgrade

      Why install a 912? The 670 has 92 HP and very small weight increase. The 670 from Rick is 1/3 the cost of a 912, also.
