What I like about van life, and where I think you went wrong with it, is how you gave up on dreams of a house, after you moved into the van. You went straight from paying rent, to living in the van. You should have used van life to prepare you for buying a house. Life is not about where you live, but what you own. Van life does not mean giving up on becoming a property owner. If anything it builds you as a property owner more than if you just owned property and had either a mid-sized sedan, SUV or a pickup truck, because for the same size vehicle you can only live inside of a van. This is a major advantage and convenience. It's an RV when you want it. I like that prospect more than stock cars, I like car customization, and the #1 car customization I see right now is van life, because to make the van livable, you have to add things to the car, and some of the things I see people adding to their vans to make them livable are just downright inspiring, and motivating. I don't think van life is glamourous in any way. I already know that to play hard you, have to work hard. The harder you work, and the more money you can make, the more fun you can have. I don't see a reason for anyone including yourself to have "quit" van life. As a matter of fact, I think you're still living it because you still have your van, still drive it, still use it as a camper, or cargo van as it was indented, and to me that is all van life is. Not the nonsense of alternatively living in it, and owning it as apposed to owning a house. Truth is just like you said if you own a van and it's built and you have a house, then you have the added convenience of off grid power that is unless your house has it as well, but in most cases most people don't, so that's why it's still a convenience to an average home owner. Lower electric utility bills. Also less water use, because the average shower head is 2.5gpm. While this is a simple fix, most van builds with inside showers opt for 1.5gpm shower heads, but in general water conservation is more prevalent in an RV than a house.

He makes a good point. Take care of the land. Don't leave everything up to the government. Because if you leave the government to do everything, then they will being in your business all the time, and you will have no freedom, and no privacy. So freedom and privacy comes with great responsibility. Another great point he had was that, we are taking care of the land. "We" being "Americans" compared to other people, in other parts of the world, that don't have an EPA. So when environmentalists extend their concerns for individuals, and their activities contributing to global warming, they aught not to be talking about Americans, because we are already taking care of our lands. What I don't think he understands is that if something is the governments it's ours. If it's government property, then it's ours as well, because we pay taxes, and the government runs on those taxes. It's the governments job to regulate, and maintain the country, but that, and the law, is by choice, because the laws can change, and the government can do more, or less depending on what we the people want. When the government has a law, that is in effect, and we break that law, we are going against our own selves, not against another entity. If the law is so bad that you can't keep it, then change it, but don't break it, and become a fugitive, or a rebel. The U.S government is an extension of its people, designed to regulate, and maintain. It is not a foreign entity trying to gain it's own power and control over the people it regulates. Don't get me wrong, it certainly could be, but that's why you have to pay attention to who, and what you vote for. In America, if you are a tax payer, and you neglect your land, you already have systems in place to reposes that land, and put you in holding, so that you can no longer threaten the livelihood of that land, and so that a better resolution for you can eventually be made. That's how the American system works. Your not on your own until you get copped and then it's you vs the feds. It's as if you hired them to do their job. And it's all mutable. IF you didn't want that, then you can change that.

He ultimately decided the cons out-weighed the pros, and had an opportunity to go in a house with his gf. Not everyone gets that opportunity, though, and some people happily live in vans for years, although I'd find it too lonely. I think Nick was honest about the pros and cons here.
