    If you’re interested in homesteading or self-sufficiency, you know that there are many traditional skills to learn. But what about alternative building methods? While it’s important to know how to build using traditional methods, it’s also worth considering some of the alternative methods out there. After all, why not be prepared with multiple ways to achieve your goal?
    What is alternative building? There are many different types of alternative building methods that can be used to build a homestead. Some common alternative building methods include straw bale construction, earthbag construction, cob construction, and log cabin construction.
    Each of these alternative building methods has its own set of advantages and disadvantages that should be considered when choosing a building method for your homestead.
    The majority of homes in America are built using traditional techniques such as stick framing or masonry construction. However, there is a growing movement of people who are interested in alternative building methods that are more sustainable and often less expensive.
    There are many benefits of alternative building methods for those interested in living a more sustainable lifestyle. Alternative building methods often use natural and recycled materials that are environmentally friendly.
    These methods can also be less expensive than traditional construction, making them a great option for those on a budget. In addition, alternative building methods often require less energy to construct, which can further reduce your impact on the environment.
    There are a few challenges when it comes to alternative building methods on a homestead.
    The first challenge is finding the right materials. Not all materials are created equal and some will work better than others for certain projects. For example, straw bales are great for insulation but they aren't the best choice for a foundation.
    The second challenge is making sure the materials are properly prepared. This step is often overlooked but it's important to make sure the materials are the right size, shape, and density before using them in a project.
    The third challenge is construction. Alternative building methods often require different construction techniques than traditional methods. This can be a challenge for those who aren't familiar with the methods or don't have experience with them. However, there are often online resources or books available that can help with this challenge.

Last couple years, on a smaller scale, I've been living more intentional, simply, self-sufficient. Feels like how I am meant to be living. Loving it. All the best 🌿

    Would people still wanna do things like this if the government and people in our society were decent as a result of getting the basic necessities from society? Don't get me wrong its cool and I'd do it too but it seems so lonely and without community and if we know about the US is hyper individualism is not good. It could be a start of a community of course too so idk. I think an entire community of nomads and van lifers and people like this guy would be dope.

    • @OffGrit
      @OffGrit Рік тому +2

      So I think I get where you are coming from. I hear you.... The one thing I will say is that in our situation, we are choosing to do this.... A lot of people in the world don't have a choice. I have a family with 3 sons and have been married for over 20 years. I am also apart of many communities online as well as people who are inspired by learning to live a lifestyle of self sufficiency. I think there is a misunderstanding about self sufficiency and isolation. In fact being self sufficient is more of an idea than a reality....you never will be completely self sufficient...you always need help. This lifestyle has actually done the OPPOSITE of what you describe. I lived in the city for over 25 years with my family and it is the loneliest I have ever felt....and we had everything we needed; 2 story house, 3 cars, etc, etc. I guess what I am saying is that while yes there are some that are outcast from society...MOST that choose this lifestyle do it because they enjoy it and have more of a sense of community than ever.... 😎

    • @JihouGijutsu
      @JihouGijutsu Рік тому +2

      @@OffGrit yeah for sure and I appreciate the reply and insight and it makes sense. only thing I would add is that that sense of loneliness in the city and modern society is a result of a lack of culture surrounding community. Especially in the US.
