this guy is gonna get someone hurt. Again, no offense, but you're trying to gain viewers with mere theoretical knowledge which may or may not work depending on real ability. Real practitioners need real proof.
Exactly, well said and respectful. I doubt this Jake Mace dude will even bother responding back to you. He's demonstration in full speed was not impressive. I wouldn't need to do all of that to block that guy's punch or avoid and hit him for the counter KO. It was real slow. Spar against someone on the street in a gym and lets see what he demonstrate. That blocking technique to grab is so useless. Then he refers to Bas Rutten to give his form some sort of credit, when Bas Rutten probably doesn't even know who this guy is and would most likely disagree completely with his technique. Bas Rutten also recently said, that if you are not sparring or have sparred a lot in the past, you are not going to do well in a fight. Who knows, maybe all of that is useless and can work. But like you said, it is all theoretical and if its not shown and proved to be effective like the Gracies did with BJJ then this just seems like quasi martial arts bullshit.
intj123 I have to disagree with that. Chinese martial arts can be bad like any other system or style as well as being just as good of a way of fighting. It depends on the fighter and what kind of open mind they have to becoming the best and training their weaknesses. People love this MMA craze because it's televised and it covers all aspects of fighting something a martial artist can't ignore if they expect to be any good but to say any martial arts are useless is good way to underestimate an opponent.
intj123 again I have to disagree with you no system if it sucked would still be around there are people who may have made it suck but making a blanket stamens and saying Chinese martial arts suck is again a good way to underestimate your opponent having that attitude with any opponent is how you lose no one is invincible and not to many people can say they're undefeated not even the Gracie's the point I'm making is maybe Chinese martial artist aren't the best because they're to prideful and stubborn to see how their martial arts need to improve but to say they are crap is to much of an absolute.
Kip Streuling intj is a whiny little idiot. He will block you if you prove him wrong. He's the most sensitive, fragile, internet tough guy I've ever come across. What a joke.
hey man, I think he's just teaching the 3 move combo in slow move so people can learn it. The video is not about proving tai chi against street fighters. If this combo move would be learnt well enough then it could be executed with lightening speed and would most certainly take out the average nontrained attacker in a second or so. I dont think he feels the need to defend tai chi is a fighting system. Hes staying true to traditional tai chi. For tougher street fights outside of tournaments, where the fighting is dirtier it would need to be adapted, the forms relaxed abit just as jeet kune do did with wing chun. In any case anything done quickly enough and with enough power would disable the average thug. Which is all the video is claiming.
I think a hidden camera should follow Jake as he takes a stroll through the enchanted streets of Baltimore or Detroit and he can chronicle real life applications of his techniques.
Tai Chi or Tai Chi Chuan is actually pronounced Tai Ji or Tai Ji Quan. Tai Chi is an incredible activity for fitness, moving meditation, and longevity. Don't forget that Tai Ji is also a high level ancient martial arts fighting system of self defense. This is the fighting application from the tai chi movement "Serve the Tea" also sometimes called "Virgin Works the Shuttles! This is called an "Arm Drag" in wrestling! Enjoy! Hope you get sued when someone from your "class" gets attacked and has no viable way to defend themselves due to your fraudulent"training". I just hope whoever gets attacked isn't hurt seriously while prancing about thinking they are defending themselves.
First of all, 太极拳 is not "pronounced" Tai Ji Quan - Tai Ji Quan is just the correct Pinyin-transcription. "chuan" would be (in English) represent the pronunciation much better than "quan". Pinyin "q" is a sound which has no exact equivalent in English. An English speaker would pronounce "quan" probably like "kwan", which is even worse than chuan. (The vowel are more like the German ü and ä.) Secondly, it's nice how you explain some things, but I find it rather hard to imagine you would be able to defend yourself with these techniques (I'm practising Taiji, Fencing, Jujutsu, Aikido and Wing Chun for more than 30 years). Maybe, if I watch a few more times, I will better understand. But I'm afraid the first impression to most martial artists would be: Ridiculous. I find it a bit sad, because Taiji can be used in selfdefence (fast Taiji is not so different from advanced Wing Chun in many aspects). But I'm afraid you don't show that convincingly.
"Step Forward to Touch the Seven Stars." Because everybody knows that when you start normal words with capital letters, you are bound to impress the gullible. Chi is exactly as real as the Force in Star Wars. And I've got an octagon to prove it, where this BS has never and will never be used. There is no "energy from the ground", people. Just hard work and practice.

Well, then it is time to move into the Glock Chi defensive element, which is an advanced form of lead translocation. It is usually quite effective, even against an attacker with superior size and strength.
I thought this was a real fight but its only a mock up ?! - Wow I can create any mockup. In my own mockup I take out 30 Samurai Warriors with my own bare fists.
That's right. Nothing annoys me more than all these mock up videos with straight and stiff punches. You don't even need to use your bare fists. Just use your first two fingers like in the kung fu movies. You break them swords.
+oscillatine ok ? bottom point, it all comes down to self defense being realistic in a street fight. it most likely will work in a single fight in a high school dance
there is a lot of misconception about using Karate in the Octagon. Most karate techniques were outlawed in the octagon when it first started. Too many fighters were being brutally hurt when it was called "cage fighting" back in the 90's. You can't use typical karate attacks like eye gouging (pulling eye out of socket), shuto (chop) to the throat/neck causing permanent paralyzation for life or death, fist stomp top of head which causes brain concussion, finger thrust up nose into brain, finger thrust into ear canal causing hearing loss, pulling testicles, ripping side of mouth, biting off flesh of arm wrapped around your throat in a rear naked choke situation, head butting, Etc,..Etc,. Etc.. No pressure point fighting is allowed in the octagon which is what karate basically is which can damage internal organs. Karate is just too brutal for sport in the octagon and heavily regulated but it is very effective in the street. Of course JiuJitsu will do better in the regulated octagon. The only thing left for a Karateka to do is become just a kick boxer and or Jiujitsuka so he can compete in regulated MMA.
***** I don't think the hands are well placed. The right isn't in position to strike or defend and the left is extended too much. It would be easy to grab if you wanted to. And the stance is way too wide and deep. You couldn't move quickly from there, it would be like trying to recover from a lunge.
I've fought street thugs that throw a straight punch. I've also fought some that use weapons. Even had one guy come at me with a broken bottle. Anything can happen in a real fight. That's one of the things I like about kung fu, it teaches you to defend yourself against any threat. Unless of course that threat is a gun, then it requires a different kind of training.
ayokay123 No smart ass, it requires firearms training. If you someone starts shooting at you, take cover and shoot back. The training will improve your chances of surviving. Most thugs can't even hold a gun properly, much less handle the fear of being shot at.
Nice video. I am 40 and out of shape now but I am grateful for all the fighting experience I have in my younger days. I notice the developed instincts and timing never leave. It's like having eyes in the back of your head and that has always amazed me even though it shouldn't at this point.
Yes, Tai Chi is so effective that it's been dominating the octagon for almost 25 years. Choreographed dance no matter how beautiful will never save your life.
the octagon is for gay boys who roll around to much and after 25 years aren't you board at watching two men roll around on the floor you don't see that sort of thing in tai chi
I like his passion. It's all about 悟. There is no right or wrong abt this guy. Especially the way he talks sometimes sounds weird in English but if it's translated into Chinese it's pretty much what it is. Keep it up Jake.
What makes this guy a thug and what difference does it make if he's from the street? Is he going to wait for me to breathe 20 times or do I have to show him the video first? So many questions...
As a Sifu in a form of Free Style Kun Fu who also kick boxed and used to be a street brawler before I got into MA I am here to say, this guy has no clue.
I have to chime in with the comments below. While your interpretations of the T’ai Chi moves are fine that doesn’t mean you'll literally use them in that way in a street situation. T’ai Chi is about principles not about moves. From push hands you learn to just respond and not go through pre-arranged movements, not even to think--only react. You do need to perform the form with these movement applications in mind, but they are only for training. I began my T’ai Chi Ch’uan training in 1980. I’ve used it on the street a couple of time and never had an injury beyond a bruised knuckle even against a supposed black belt. I would have had my rear end handed to me if I had stood in single whip. My black belt opponent though a grown man left literally with his shirt torn off, his mouth dripping blood and in tears. I would also guess with a swollen jaw. It didn’t particularly look like T’ai Chi,, but every movement was a T’ai Chi principle. I don’t go looking for fights, but this black belt was shoving a pregnant woman around. I couldn’t let that go.
Wow! SUPER EFFECTIVE when your opponent completely cooperates with you. I'll order the DVD and hopefully be able to talk a thug into cooperating with me so I can do that move on him. Awesome.
I personally like this. It's nice to see a way to win a fight without beating the living shit out of your opponent. Even though Tai Chi is a touch outdated due to the many new martial arts, it's still something I would recommend. Not that you have to fight with it, as it is extremely relaxing as well as a great stress reliever.
Blocking attacks isn't as easy as these videos always make it seem. I've done self-defense and taekwondo and for that to be effective you'll have to have practiced blocking more than your opponent has practiced attacking. Otherwise your less than optimal block fails at reducing some of the force of an impact or you fail at blocking altogether and immediately fall over, because you're not used to getting hit either with all that light-hearted "please don't hit me" blocking practice. The best self defense (that don't have a high risk of killing like guns) are tasers or pepper spray anyway and those don't require you to practice several hours a week for years. This kind of eastern martial arts practice is more for the mind (finding balance between thought and physical activity) and the philosophy than actual effective self-defense.
This is very good and contains much skill and practice in order to become an expert this is good and I respect your outlook on Martial Arts Jake Mace I've become a better Martial Artist watching you for the past few years! Much respect!
The libraries are going to show me that Tai Chi is for fighting? Just ask a tai chi practitioner. I spoke to one that did a Tai Chi demo at a Chinese new year event. He said, some people can fight, others cant and like any athlete that is in shape, someone with a Tai Chi background may have an advantage over the average person. Then he said, if you want to learn to fight, I would choose something other than Tai Chi...
Look, im not saying Tai Chi can not be used in a fight. What I'm saying is Tai Chi is not traditionally used for combat. Tai Chi is used to gain health and well being mostly. Why would you practice Tai Chi for fighting when there are other martial arts geared directly for combat? Watch, "Kiai Master VS MMA" " Luarbiasa Kumfu ini Memiliki Tenaga Dalam Super" on youtube.
This could be useful, but not by itself. You have to become battle ready, that only comes after begging jump a few times. After that, you will not care anymore, you will no longer let fear rule you, at that point, it will be useful. I remember when I first moved to NY as a little kid, I would forget all my training when those good for nothing hoodlums wanted to start a fight. After getting jumped a few times, I knew I had to do something. I realized that the I was not afraid for myself, I was scared to use what I know because of what I could do to people. Once I stopped seeing them as people, is was game over. I eventually moved from that area. I did want to end up killing one of them. I realized they are not worth anything dead or alive.
So when did MMA become the benchmark for fighting? Are there rules in MMA? Yes, and thus not at all indicative of a real street fight. Does that mean that all MMA fighters are crap and couldn't do great in a real street fight? Not at all, but my point is that for some reason there are a LOT of idiots today that think MMA and those styles that fight in MMA are the only real styles of martial arts.
Steve Michael Ok, very well. Then post an authentic real world example of the effectiveness of Tai Chi in a street fight instead of this make believe nonsense.
Jason James I don't know Tai Chi and am not here to defend Tai Chi. I couldn't show you a video of any martial arts person fighting in a real fight, nor do I want to bother looking it up. My point is that there all these mma guys out there that believe that mma is somehow a bar to be set for "real" fighting. It isn't, as it is a sport. If there isn't some martial arts style presented in mma, it does not mean it is not a real fighting style.
Utter nonsense, as usual. Looks affective in slow motion, but no one throws that slow and weak a right hand. No martial art is affective again a bigger opponent. Only Thai boxing and its like are useful, because exponents not only learn to hit, but also learn how to get hit. If you can't take the punishment, you're fucked. Bruce Lee in a bar with a 30 stone fat guy between him and escape? Lee'd have been carried away in a bucket.
Thanks for starting the tape over from the real beginning and showing in slow motion the flaws in using a partner. Its quite evident at 0:16 that an upper cut or cross punch was not only required here-it was also do-able. Yes, for only a brief second due to quickness of the guy capturing the arm, pulling it down in a downward motion--but, in the time of those two steps a skiiled boxer would have thrown that left punch and the guy was WIDE open.
What I enjoy most about the Tea Chi technique are the attributes of grace and tranquility...you have this technique down. Very nice, and very well. I'm inspired.
I can't believe that people actually subscribe to this! Not unless they want to watch it when they need a laugh! Love the "shit in the wave" pose at the end of the video. Very classy! LOL
I've fought on the streets since I was five, now I'm nearly six and I could whip his butt! I don't see him fighting randomly at real speed, just choreographed dancing.
Jonas - UFC fighters are super athletes. Most only need more training to defeat each other, not to get away from a street encounter. Also, there is a limit in the UFC of the type of damage that you are allowed to do to your opponent's body. Thus martial arts techniques that destroy joints, wind pipes, knock caps off knees, etc would have to be removed if an individual using Tai Chi methods were to step into a UFC ring. I have studied boxing, wrestling, MA's, etc. The truth is most of the time you're not going to win against a super athlete like an MMA fighter, pro boxer, NFL lineman, etc. But, when is the last time you heard of an MMA fighter attacking some one on the street? It's pretty rare.
Taichi is a good physical and mental exercise, can also used for fighting,in China, many people do morning exercises in Taichi to keep healthy. Nowadays ,people become more impatient only want to win. 不要只想着赢,强身健体也重要。(Use martial skills to keep fit is also important )

Even CM punk can beat this guy
LMAO! word.
CannaHeaven 😂😂😂 without a doubt
lmao!!!!!

Enjoy! Scam artist
so you can take down him? dude
Aaron you hit the nail on the head!
(The vowel are more like the German ü and ä.)
Secondly, it's nice how you explain some things, but I find it rather hard to imagine you would be able to defend yourself with these techniques (I'm practising Taiji, Fencing, Jujutsu, Aikido and Wing Chun for more than 30 years).

Chi is exactly as real as the Force in Star Wars. And I've got an octagon to prove it, where this BS has never and will never be used.

Well, then it is time to move into the Glock Chi defensive element, which is an advanced form of lead translocation. It is usually quite effective, even against an attacker with superior size and strength.
Your response is videos of you doing more "dissecting the corpse?"
Thank you "sifu" Jake Mace. I loves this beautiful video training programme class of "tai chi" a lot.
I thought this was a real fight but its only a mock up ?! - Wow I can create any mockup. In my own mockup I take out 30 Samurai Warriors with my own bare fists.
best comment
That's right. Nothing annoys me more than all these mock up videos with straight and stiff punches. You don't even need to use your bare fists. Just use your first two fingers like in the kung fu movies. You break them swords.
You sound like a real dumb ass.
Haha Bee Thao
Sir, i loves the video. Thank you sir for uploading this beautiful video on the youtube. It's a great service.
Looks very efective... if you do this in a street fight, your enemy will laugh to deaath
Rosa Ibañez lol true
Thank you sir for uploading this beautiful video on "tai chi" in the youtube.
This works great against someone not trying to hurt you...otherwise make sure your medical insurance is current.
I have been in the martial arts for 40+ years and I love you. Sincerer Sensei Rene Winter
dude put your word to the test i want to see you MMA
MMA ?? Mother Martial Art ?
+oscillatine really jejehaha
I want to see this guy do that dance in a MMA ring with me
Tyron Zepol >May we break bones and burst eyes in MMA ? I don't think so, MMA is a sport. Taijiquan is a martial art : that's the difference.
+oscillatine ok ? bottom point, it all comes down to self defense being realistic in a street fight. it most likely will work in a single fight in a high school dance
God bless you jake mace a lot. Thank you sir.
That's a very compliant attacker.
4 minutes into this video is the best part of the whole video and the most fun stuff to do
there is a lot of misconception about using Karate in the Octagon.
How can you not like this video. this is fundamental movement with plenty of room to ad-lib or escape. I think useful for just about anyone. good job.
4:34 great stance if you want to get kicked in the bollocks
Don't underestimate their speed son.
Dan Letts Don't underestimate the speed of a groin kick, particularly if you're standing that deeply with your legs so wide.
Robert R 😂😂😂 damn right
The stance makes more sense if he would stand more forward to opponent.
***** I don't think the hands are well placed. The right isn't in position to strike or defend and the left is extended too much. It would be easy to grab if you wanted to.
And the stance is way too wide and deep. You couldn't move quickly from there, it would be like trying to recover from a lunge.
Sir, i likes the classic "Tai chi" natural stance you shared through this video.
a street thug will never throw a straight punch like that...
Yeah because all street thugs are the same ,right!!??....please....
+James Roper Kevlar Chi?
ayokay123 No smart ass, it requires firearms training. If you someone starts shooting at you, take cover and shoot back. The training will improve your chances of surviving. Most thugs can't even hold a gun properly, much less handle the fear of being shot at.
+James Roper Which are the martial arts that teach you how to disarm a thug?
Nice video. I am 40 and out of shape now but I am grateful for all the fighting experience I have in my younger days. I notice the developed instincts and timing never leave. It's like having eyes in the back of your head and that has always amazed me even though it shouldn't at this point.
sure if you're fighting a one armed opponent,, WHAT ABOUT THE OTHER FIST?
I hope my attacker agrees to having a choreographed fight.
funny video... please don't try this against a real opponent or attacker. please.....
That's because you never see a tai chi "artist" win a fight. They just get flattened by the first punch.
***** you could be right if you could get the mma fighter of the floor rolling around mma could do with more punching
You clearly don't know what you're talking about.
Throw, nice. Block? Sorry... totally unrealistic. Bas would never advocate blocking like that, either.

Thoroughly enjoyable and educational sir.
It works great when your opponent lets you. Disliked for the clickbait title
right!! show me a "street thug" that steps into a right punch.. unless it's a sucker in the knock out game..
"Grab my arm... Other arm... MY other arm."
Awful tai chi.
+Josh Pickles Totally awful.
is there any tai chi here?
Only marketing
who's someone great to study for tai chi?
+AdamOuissellat Personally I'd recommend Chen Xiao Wang or Fu Qing Quan or one of their disciples.
ha ha ha this could be one of the funniest things I've seen, i reckon you should try it in the ufc mate
Looks like the kind of stuff David Carradine did in the 1970s series Kung Fu.
Wow! SUPER EFFECTIVE when your opponent completely cooperates with you. I'll order the DVD and hopefully be able to talk a thug into cooperating with me so I can do that move on him. Awesome.
This is not tai chi, it's a series of martial art techniques from an external system. Nothing internal to be seen here - move on.
He is a fraud
I personally like this. It's nice to see a way to win a fight without beating the living shit out of your opponent. Even though Tai Chi is a touch outdated due to the many new martial arts, it's still something I would recommend. Not that you have to fight with it, as it is extremely relaxing as well as a great stress reliever.
so fake.. he last 5 seconds in ufc
Maybe 5 seconds, only maybe!!
Just like the fakeness of pure wrestling against a more rounded fighter. I hope he ends up in his Asskren in 5 seconds as well.
Very true and good explanation😁
Practical?? who on earth holds an arm extended for a prolong period of time in the real life except for aikido or taichi practicioner?
This is very good and contains much skill and practice in order to become an expert this is good and I respect your outlook on Martial Arts Jake Mace I've become a better Martial Artist watching you for the past few years! Much respect!
Tai Chi is not for fighting... If you think it is you're a fool.
k0d0kan you are the fool. Ignorance is not bliss. Go to libraries more.
Then he said, if you want to learn to fight, I would choose something other than Tai Chi...
that is just 1 person's opinion. There are various families of Tai Chi and some of them are meant for combat purpose.
That shit is faker than faith healing.
LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL love him trying to take a dump with his pants on at the end
theres a reason people only view it as a work out.
I trained Ninjutsu. Not every sure how Tai Chi will fare in the streets. I think it should be better than what some thugs call fighting.
Anthony Perez
That was great jake!
Inspiring to watch and hit me inspired to want to motivate me to practice again with a teacher.
That's very good. Now how do I defend myself from a minigun on a warthog or a drone operated by my fascist government?
When a battle starts all plans are forgotten!
Not a Street Fight kill- yoga maybe...fun for the movies- lol
I do martial arts too
I respect your work but bro it doesn’t work in this way.....
Even for Tai-Chi
Oh yes! Tai Chi is used extensively in MMA! HA! It is real pretty though!
***** Those of you that believe your classical oriental fighting styles are effective against a skilled street fighter are living in a fantasy land.
Thanks for starting the tape over from the real beginning and showing in slow motion the flaws in using a partner. Its quite evident at 0:16 that an upper cut or cross punch was not only required here-it was also do-able. Yes, for only a brief second due to quickness of the guy capturing the arm, pulling it down in a downward motion--but, in the time of those two steps a skiiled boxer would have thrown that left punch and the guy was WIDE open.
more ''secret'' techniques?? Who is still believing this crap anyway?
Thank You Jake for sharing your knowledge & skills.
What I enjoy most about the Tea Chi technique are the attributes of grace and tranquility...you have this technique down. Very nice, and very well. I'm inspired.
"Combat Tai Chi video...."
BWAHAHAHAHAHA!! That's a good one.
Ignore the comments @Jake Mace, you make awesome videos. Most don't have the intellectual discipline to u destined how tai chi works
I can't believe that people actually subscribe to this! Not unless they want to watch it when they need a laugh! Love the "shit in the wave" pose at the end of the video. Very classy! LOL
No matter what other people think,I think if you're skilled enough that move would work. Great video.
I've fought on the streets since I was five, now I'm nearly six and I could whip his butt! I don't see him fighting randomly at real speed, just choreographed dancing.
Jake mace the real super star
Great Video! I love Tai Chi.
Super cool! Luv it!
i started studyen ttai chi and my body feels better alot oif my pan is gone and i have better blancs thanks jake i watch alot of your videos
This guy has never had to deal with someone that has the capacity for violence that has decided to hurt him.
'hurtful object comming at me'
Taichi is a good physical and mental exercise, can also used for fighting,in China, many people do morning exercises in Taichi to keep healthy. Nowadays ,people become more impatient only want to win. 不要只想着赢,强身健体也重要。(Use martial skills to keep fit is also important )
Dear Jake, these techniques are about structure. Violence is chaos. To bring order out of chaos, you need to be able to be chaotic, dominate the chaos and enforce structure to restore the balance between reality and insanity... (survivor of >150 violent confrontations).
I like what he does AFTER the insane takedown 1:38 "This is step forward and touch the seven stars." Say what?
I don't understand all the hate you don't like it don't watch his videos wether they're effective or not that's his content and what he chooses to upload on HIS channel.
I was going to watch this video, but then I saw the receding hairline/choker necklace combo and was like "nah I'm good".
Yes, because so many people throw a straight punch and leave their arm hanging out there.
My ego is probably to high, but my creativity in skills and movement probably surpasses yours. You motivated me to start my own channel if you’re this successful over it.
People who say this doesnt work in real life have never seen a fight with a master. Good technique
love it man
