I love that you guys are "head bangers" now. When a heavy beat kicks in with killer riffs you both very naturally start the head banging right on que. I love it. I'm proud of you both.
Look at videos of crowds at early rock n' roll concerts and you will see them struggling to express themselves without the headbang. They'll wag their knees and try different dance moves and fall to the floor and stuff like that, which is clearly unsatisfying. Their peculiar behavior made them look possessed, which is probably one of the reasons rock was condemned by churches. The itch of rock and metal is only scratched by headbanging.

I ran straight to the comments when I saw Metal Church. VERY underrated. Even my metal head friends don't know who they are. If you liked this song, you'll appreciate Gods of Wrath by them
Badlands has the worst guitar solo ever recorded. They had it crushed right up to the solo. Let’s not do that to these guys. Watch The Children Pray ftw! And/or Gods Of Wrath!
Dude, you're so right, George! I consider myself above average as far as how many metal songs anyone has listened to. From Black Sabbath to Megadeth, from Cannibal Corpse to Necrophagist and anything in between, I'm 43 and I've listened to thousands of metal songs but I've never really listened to a whole song from Metal Church. I know their name, I've seen their pictures and photos back in the day but this is my first time listening to them. You dudes got me listening to them now! Your channel is FIRE!!! 🔥🔥🔥
Yes sir, these cats are the real deal. This album and their 2nd "The Dark" are very special. There's no filler tracks on either. (except maybe Highway Star could be considered "filler" because it's a cover, BUT only because its not an original). Peace
I actually bailed on Metal Church when they switched vocalists to Mike Howe on their 3rd album. Even though Howe is probably a more "traditional" vocalist, his voice, not only didn't do anything for me, it got on my nerves.
That's true for a lot of metal I'd say. I wasn't crazy about Sean Killian's voice in Vio-Lence when I first heard it, but it grew on me quick and now I can't imagine their songs without it
@@independenceltd. I suggest you listen to the last 2 albums with him , they're great in my opinion. Their will never be another David Wayne but those last 2 albums kick ass and have a more traditional metal crunch with some thrashier song's mixed in!
At that time, this album was as important to us as Master Of Puppets. My first tattoo is pretty much inspired by the cover pic of this one. Metal Church was a huge impact and influence. Quite funny you arrived here that late. 😅 and btw the drumming on this record was also a huge influence on my own playing.
One of the best metal songs of all time. The production and sonic quality are off the chart. Whoever produced and mixed this, those are the best sounding drums I've ever heard as well as the guitar tone sounding as well as their playing ability. Just a great song.
This is probably my favorite reaction of yours. So cool seeing you appreciate this under appreciated band. Favorite reaction but favorite quote is still from Holy Wars reaction “ this is like Black porno” 😂
I remember vividly when I heard this album for the very first time in 1984 (I was 14 back then) and I as well was blown away by the sheer musicality, the impressive song-structures and its massive production. It warms my heart that this type of music is somewhat still relevant judging by your reactions. You guys get it! Thank you for yet another great video!
Metal Church was the litmus test for determining true metal fans back in the late 80s/90s. Plenty of people wearing Metallica, Megadeth, Iron Maiden t-shirts. But someone busts out a Metal Church CD and you know they're into serious metal. This album, and The Dark, are S Tier metal. Really overlooked band, and was WAITING for you guys to catch this, cause I knew you'd like the swing tempo, that triplet beat that dominates jazz, R&B, and other dance music. Makes you really get tangled in.
This is why I subscribe and love your reactions. Exactly how I felt about this song and band when I heard the first time. Every metalheads knows of metal church, first 2 albums are classics.
The reason a lot of bands in the 80's had that shrill evil vocal style was to take the dark demonic fantasy element to another level. They wanted to sound like Satanic sorcerers, angry spectres, demons,or the Devil himself. Although most of it is an acquired taste, there are a few bands that found a nice middle ground between the high pitched notes and melodic singing.
Boys.....I am a dyed in the wool, long term, hard core metal head....and you have opened MY ears to a band and tune I have never heard of before. This....AND your reactions.....it downright absolutely effing brilliant! WHAT a tune and your reactions completely nailed it. Ryan was spot on....COMPLETELY caught me off guard. Thank you guys. I am now diving into Discogs....

Saw this band at Ruthie's in Berkeley. It was their return to the Bay Area. Everyone was there, Metallica, Exodus, Trauma, Hexx, etc. Great show and good dudes. These guys had everyone's respect.
Ever since Black Sabbath's first album "Black Sabbath" kicked off the genre which would come to be known as heavy metal with the first song on that album "Black Sabbath" many metal bands have done the same. Iron Maiden's first album was self-titled and they still play "Iron Maiden" in their live show to this day. This album is fire through and through, glad you guys gave this a listen. Cheers guys!
This and Gods of Wrath are the biggest ones of this album, but the whole thing is a metal masterpiece. Thanks for doing it!! Kirk Arrington was a massive influence on me and I'm glad you gave him a shout out :)
I remember when this album came out. Holy Hell, it was a game changer. Gods of Wrath was a killer song and riff. This song kept me sane in boot camp in 1987 when I would drum on my footlocker the beat and have the guitar in my head.
Man this brings back memories of the days in the early 80s and 90s when you used to walk into the local Tower Records once or twice a month and scan the metal section from A to Z. I bought so many metal albums just by the cover art and discovered an entire world of metal, too many to name, but it became a ritual and I built my album collection from that practice, Good Times lost forever.
Oh man, so true! I got in to Metal Church cuz of Megadeth liner notes, but Stormtroopers of Death was totally cuz of looking at the cover art. Meliah Rage also. Whiplash. Artillery. Like you said, too many to name!
Loved Metal Church since the beginning, Dave Wayne was the epitome of what a 80's speed metal vocalist should sound like. Had a chance to speak with him outside the Paradise Club Boston, genuinely a good person. The Metal gods received a monster when he passed. you guys should check out the album Metal Church the Dark !

@@wesleywalkden9026 I stand corrected. Thank you.
@@christhom670 Thanks for the info. I was not aware.
@@cajunvikingrecords technically you were correct though. David Wayne is the original vocalist of the band Metal Church.
I ran straight to the comments when I saw Metal Church. VERY underrated. Even my metal head friends don't know who they are. If you liked this song, you'll appreciate Gods of Wrath by them
Yeah, they shall react to "gods of wrath". It's another badass song!
Damn right! Gods of Wrath! I still listen to it when the Mrs. is out of town and I have the house and the speakers to myself. The solo. OMG!
@@richmay3929 that song is meant to be blasted
Love you guys!!! Keep up the great work you do and shout out to MetalHeads everywhere..
“Watch the Children Pray” was their big hit single.
Badlands was big too
Badlands
Just not the "Watch the Children Pray" 2006 version.
Badlands has the worst guitar solo ever recorded. They had it crushed right up to the solo. Let’s not do that to these guys.
Watch The Children Pray ftw!
And/or Gods Of Wrath!
Start the fire too
The vocals are amazing. DW was a genius.
Agreed...first for me as well.
Kirk is one of the most criminally underrated drummers of the scene
I have always thought that.
Absolutely agree!
He was a huge influence on me!
this
Man, I’ve been thinking that for YEARS! Kirk rules.
One of my favorite tunes that you guys have introduced me to over the years. Shout out to everyone who requested this song.
Bingo Larsen This whole album is the shit!
This entire album and the one that followed are absolutely mind blowingly good
Yes, this album and The Dark are what Metal Church is to me
Yes sir, these cats are the real deal. This album and their 2nd "The Dark" are very special. There's no filler tracks on either. (except maybe Highway Star could be considered "filler" because it's a cover, BUT only because its not an original).
Peace
Here! I have typed 'Metal Church' into the comments for a few years now, Love to all my Heavy Metal brethren!
I love Metal Church! And this song left an impression on me at a young age, it's sick!
The vocals grow on you, I'd say.
Fake Healer was an awesome song. The latest album XI isn't all that.
@@independenceltd. I suggest you listen to the last 2 albums with him , they're great in my opinion. Their will never be another David Wayne but those last 2 albums kick ass and have a more traditional metal crunch with some thrashier song's mixed in!
@@briancoleman2712 There's a few good song's on that album but the one before that with Howe's return was better IMO!
THERE WILL NEVER NEVER EVER BE ANOTHER BAND SUCH AS
METAL CHURCH ONE OF A KIND
RIP MIKE !!!
Beyond the black is also a fantastic song! definitely a sleeper 💯
Oh wow the Singer David Wayne was about 30 when this came out and had been a US Army Combat Medic prior to joining the Band.
You also need to check out their album The Dark.
David Wayne could sing his ass off!
Reverend
@@reverendriff5597 - Reverend was such a SUPER underrated band. I LOVE their debut Ep.
I remember seeing Metal Church Armored Saint and a very young Metallica at Gazzari's on the sunset strip back in the 80s.
Metal Church - Badlands is a great song. Anything off the Blessing in Disguise album is worth a listen.
Badlands is incredible
+1 for Badlands
+2
Badlands is definitely one of their best with second singer, Mike Howe.
I love Howe's vocals more than Wayne's. Blessing in Disguise is the album that grabbed me. Badlands is brilliant
For not being metalheads, you guys have a great ear for the cream of metal.
I love both of you for respecting the Metal.
Anyone that liked Metallica in the 80s knows who Metal Church is.
Metal Church opened for them in Toronto I believe it was `87
Even Metallica love Metal Church
Seen them play together in Anaheim, Calif in '85 I'm guessing
I saw Metal Church open for Metallica at the Felt Forum in NYC in December of 1986! \m/
Saw them together in 92
That song's fun as shit to play on the drums. Don't sleep on Metal Church.
This is why I subscribe and love your reactions. Exactly how I felt about this song and band when I heard the first time. Every metalheads knows of metal church, first 2 albums are classics.
Gods Of Wrath is the song that got me all the way into this band! Saw em three times. Twice with David Wayne, one of the best live shows i ever saw.
Dude, DIG IN! Their first four albums are stunningly good even with a vocalist change after "The Dark".
@@rubicon-oh9km I did. You’re right! Lol
Metal Church has a bunch of great songs you could react to. Start the Fire, Gods of Wrath, Beyond the Black, Watch the Children Pray...
man start the fire is one of my go to metal of the day and beyond black is awesomeness
Life long metal head here. This is THE song that bridged my taste from Judas Priest etc, to Slayer and beyond! So happy to see you checking this out!
Heres your medium thrash!! 😂
I never thought I'd see a Metal Church review/reaction, much less that you guys would like it so much. 😊
Saw this band at Ruthie's in Berkeley. It was their return to the Bay Area. Everyone was there, Metallica, Exodus, Trauma, Hexx, etc. Great show and good dudes. These guys had everyone's respect.
Never clicked faster! Shocking choice.
Hope you do 'Gods of wrath.'
That is an awesome song
The best!!!
YES GODS OF WRATH!!!!!!!!
Yes! The drums will blow their minds.
The best one
Anthem to the estranged is a masterpiece, hope you'll listen it someday
One of my all time favorite songs of theirs.
Easily my favorite song of theirs! I met the band twice and told them they NEED to break it out into the setlist one day!
Rest in Peace David Wayne.
His vocals fit Metal Church to perfection.
Kirk Arrington is one of my favorite all time drummers. Complete beast.
I can't get through this song without air drumming and guitaring.
Preach
I did not know about this group previously. I love this! Thanks for this reaction!
Metal Church is OG, so I’m glad you guys are getting around to them!
HELL YESSSSSS!!!!!!! I Recommended this band like a year ago on your channel guys. I swear I'll find the comment. truly loved your reaction on this one. Imagine what it did to me being 17 hahah. Lots of love from Chilean Patagonia.
PS: at that time I recommended "beyond the black" from the same album, one of the heaviest more serious songs I've ever heard. it scared the shit out of me first time I listened to it.
Thank you as well for requesting them, I was so shocked that they were doing a reaction to one of my fave Thrash bands! Btw - I am a "Velásquez
" too \m/
Thanks for puttin me on to Metal Church! This is straight fire from beginning to end!
This is absolutely my favorite of all of your reaction videos. I come back to this every few months to rewatch it and your reaction and the appreciation of the music always hits!
Wow!! What a great birthday present. My favourite metal album ever! And so underrated. I love this song. And the drummer, Kirk Arrington indeed, is the best metal drummer ever imho. You should try the song ‘Beyond the Black’ as well. For me the epitome of heavy metal. Thanks guys, great review/first reaction..
Happy Birthday to a fellow Aquarian! mine was the 15th
Kirk Arrington is one of the best drummers I've ever heard. From production of his drum sound, to groove, to intensity, he kicked ass. Unfortunately I think he ended up having issues with Diabetes
Yes!!! I requested this song about a year ago. I even said the drums would beat your ears to death. Glad you liked it!
Thanks man for being one of those. Never would have figured they'd get to hear these guys.
@@mvunit3 sure thing bro! I used to rock these guys in the navy. Good times!!
This is a VERY influential album for me. Gods of Wrath is amazing. The cover of Deep Purples Highway Star. Beyond the Black. Just an excellent album. David Wayne was a very underrated singer.
One of my all time favorite bands, definitely didn't get the recognition they deserve! Awesome that they're back kicking ass with Mike at the helm again!
Loved this review. I’ve been listening to Metal Church since the late 80’s. They Kick Ass. I’m telling you, Fake Healer is a Bad Ass Jam🤘🏽🤘🏽
Wait until you hear the other tracks! This whole album does not disappoint.
Metal Church is absolutely one of my top Metal bands. Glad to see you guys appreciate them. Please dig into their music. They have gone through multiple singers.
So I've been in a bad head space here lately so I'm watching you guys. Seeing you guys enjoying my preferred genres always puts a smile on my face, and I've been subbed for probably 3 or 4 years now.
All that said, I had never even heard of Metal Church before now. And I dig the song! You guys introduced a decades long metal head to a good metal band! How about that shit?!
There are like 5 or 6 amazing songs from this record. Its such an 80's Metal/Thrash Classic.
Band: Metal Church
Album: Metal Church
Song: Metal Church
Metal 101.
You have arrived at your destination.
I love this album. Still have it. Crazy seeing it here. Glad you guys like it. Hitman is another great track.
This was one of my favorite albums back in the day. Every track on it is killer.
I'm so glad to see an underrated gem finally getting more recognition
I'm from Aberdeen Washington and grew up watching them in garages and the D&R theater etc. So awesome to see you two enjoy it like I always have. Keep exploring metal church. They did a recent album about 5 years ago that's great too
Church is a band that all other metal bands love, that tells you all you need to know, when Jaymz got burnt by pyro they got John Marshall, to play on tour, whats that tell you, was a teenager when metallica, megadeth, slayer & all hit the scene & without question Metal Church is our best kept secret but the secrets out & enjoy! They are NOT a one off, simply explore & enjoy ~ thanks to you for bringing them to light🤘
I saw one of those shows with him playing for Hetfield. Still a great show!
Metal Church opening for Metallica at Allentown fairgrounds was best show I've ever seen those 2 bands just destroyed us that night
