That’s just awesome as hell to. Can’t express how much I’d just fucking love getting pissed - which means drunk, right?! - with the entire band, and just throw down hardcore all night. That’d be a damn dream come true
This was such a fun song. I remember being at a bar in the late 90's and the whole place was singing and going crazy when this song played. ChumbaWamba struck a universal chord with this song.
I remember hearing this song while doing a data entry job at some people out in Sioux Falls, lol. We were allowed to wear headphones at work. This was 1997-1998. One of the chicks I worked with was a goth-punk, she must have loved this song :)
you do realize that the following generation probably feels the same about gangnam style... there's one for every generation. it's a deliberate machine
I remember losing a basketball game back in elementary school, and on the way home played this song, turned it up and just started singing our hearts out hahaha. O the mems
Look them up, honestly. Listen to their older music if you haven't. They're a fucking anarcho punk band and they made this song pretty much specifically to essentially troll. They've let general motors use the rights to it for like $70k before and then turned around and donated all that money to the people protesting general motors. They're actually extremely fucking dope and I'm sure they got sick of performing this quick.
The only silly thing I see here is the stupidity of the criticism you have made against this band. I'm going to give you two tips, and I don't care if you take them into account or not. "Hypocrisy is one of the many human attitudes, whether good or bad, and there has never been as much in the past as in the present, a single person who lacks this characteristic." And the second piece of advice is: "never bite the hand that feeds you."
Damn this brings back memories! This song is so awesome and powerful! Yes it's about being knocked down from drinking but it's also about being knocked down by tough jobs, rough times, rough life and always getting back up! The end chorus I used to help me make it through some rough moments in my life! Thanks Chumbawamba! Shout out from Orlando, FL!
Finally I understood this song after watching the movie "Brassed Off" (1996). Danny is campaigning -- tub-thumping -- to preserve his brass band of workers facing closure of their coal pit. Many take refuge in whiskey and lager drinks, pissing away their nights while longing for the good and better days. Yet the proud community of next-door neighbors remembers good and better times, vowing to be never kept down again. The workers someday again will be winning ... and singing!
The song is mocking hooligan type of people and "lifestylists." Lifestylism is an anarcho-babble insult for anarchists that don't pass the anarcho-purity litmus test and don't partake in the class struggle BS. Ironically, the people they were mocking took it up as some sort of anthem. It's one of the few Chumbawamba songs that isn't really political.
Actually this song was inspired by a neighbor who would show up in the middle of the night locked outside of his own house and falling over wasted from drinking at the bar.
Have just come home from seeing Dunstan's "Am I Invisible Yet" in Warsaw, and meeting the dude after the show. We just had a couple of wines. Cool dude.

@Catholic Firefighter I mean, you're not wrong on that field, however i'm sure they would disagree with you on the Trump 2020 thing. But don't worry, vote for who you wanna vote, everyone's entitled to an opinion :) I don't really have a favourite in the 2020 US elections, as I haven't really read up on the manifestos yet + I live in the UK so I haven't had chance to pay attention EDIT - Also anarcho-capitalism is a thing
How is it ironic? This was their only big hit. So the shirt was reality instead of sarcasm. Plus it’s one of the corniest songs ever made. An older woman who sings like my mom sings about her constant beer piss. Then at one point she sings “Danny Boy” and it makes me cringe. All of it does though. Every second.
@@DONNY2TERM The irony is that they probably didn't think they were going to be one-hit wonders when choosing to wear the shirt. But they did become one-hit wonders. The song sucks but it was definitely a big hit back then. I never liked it.

@Catholic Firefighter You do know they weren't on TV for around 11 years prior releasing Tubthumbing. The reason they switch to EMI was because indie labels were still capitalist. At the time music collectives weren't really a big thing I assume, but as of recent I have been seeing more music collectives popping up.
@Catholic Firefighter If we are talking about music, it isn't necessary to get a company to back you up to find some form of success. Love the shirt “One Hit Wonder”! True statement, but the song still slaps today!
It’s like they’re doing it as part of their community service
Charlie Havner that's hilarious. and accurate.😄

Fucking love everything about this!

This song, I'm sure got extremely old and annoying to sing live for the band. Check out the trumpet player especially!
Still great after all these years! I'm 73 and just saw it for the first time, and love it.

the "one hit wonder" t-shirt haahhaha... very nice

Excellent voices which you wouldn’t really have known if they hadn’t performed it live. Great to hear such good voices. Real talent.
I've NEVER heard TUBTHUMPING played live before!!! It has such a distinct sound when it's played live!!! Awesome sauce!!! :) :) :)
