For everyone out there who never realised why there was a huge rusting ship docked at Llanerch-y-mor Flintshire just presuming she was unloved, uncared for and left abandoned .... think again.... and then once more, that couldn't be further from the truth.
This is a great video Ashley. I too deplore the appalling behavior of the official parties involved. It seems illogical to me when so much benefit and advantage to the area is possible with focused and enthusiastic management. The DofL is an enormous asset just waiting to be exploited. I can see so many schemes that might be made to work here and tourism is an easily exploitable asset in an area where the local economy is less than prosperous and social decline is obvious to the eye. Very sad.
need to get this video out there! ... it depicts just how bad the authorities are. I thought maybe the history was exaggerated but I can assure you it isn't....
She isn't going anywhere as it would cost a fortune. The reason the likes of the Manxman didn't survive after her preservation society tried for 10 years was because they couldn't find a home for her. The Duke has a home which is a blessing ...
The access for emergency vehicles has been a major issue for the past 30 years. The council have claimed the only wau possible is via a bridge with a weight restriction of 10 tonne. Fire engines weigh 12 tonne. We have just discovered from Network Rail who own the bridge that it is capable of carrying 24 tonne...THE COUNCIL HAVE PUT THE 10 TONNE SIGNS BACK UP AFTER IT FEATURED IN THE MEDIA
She is not going anywhere. She has sat where she is for 33 years. It would be an absolute nightmare to move her financially and physically.

I think you will be surprised at what is happening regards the ship right now. I run a campaign to restore her and have been in discussions with Flintshire Council for over 12 months now. ...
Ashley....As you are no doubt aware I made comments but removed them......I was so infuriated about the Council..................Amazing Video and I wish you all the luck in the world...
Thank you so much! We have moved on since this video was made in exposing the Council for making false claims re; the emergency access. So far they have ignored us but the Ombudsman has just ordered them to answer us so ....

Ashley, no matter what set back, on we go and the Council must love you as loosing the battle or giving in to some uptight, short-sighted, narrow-minded hypocrites never even enters your head and this is why you will be herd and the battle rages on

Thank you so much for lovely comments Brian. The ship is very close to my heart and to see her the way she is saddens me. The Councils' attitude towards her is very wrong and I don't think they should be allowed to get away with their actions. The ship has many supporters that the Council under estimate and the truth will come out in the end.
Yes, they still hate the ship but we are giving as good as we are getting and thankfully now in the days of the internet we have plenty of witnesses as all our dealing are on the Dukes Appreciation Society page on facebook ..Not so easy to ignore 1,200 people! You're very welcome to join and follow or prioress or very welcome to join and take an active part with us! It wasn't 'closed down' by the way.The owner closed it because he was sick of being attacked by the Council..
(if I may say) ..If you own the ship, surely you could relocate her to where a council would be more amenable and interested in bringing a boost to tourism?. perhaps somewhere like Barry Island , Cardiff or Maybe Newport as a suggestion.

Hello. Lovely to hear from you again! On the contrary, things have taken a turn for the better. The dock finally opened to the public last year for a food festival and then a Xmas market. Both were a success. It was quite an emotional experience for me, as you may imagine? There are lots of plans for future events, like a small music festival etc; but it all looks very promising. The ship has recently featured in a film written and starring Sir Lenny Henry. It's called Three Little Birds and is about the Windrush era. The ship had a makeover for filming and is looking amazing. Although it's mostly superficial it just shows what can be done and that all is certainly not lost. xx

Ashley I'm hearing that The Duke is going to be transformed into a horror maze??? Surely this is a step in the right direction??? or not?? The ship should lie in peace...I personally think the Graffiti shows disrespect.... xx Clive.
Yes Clive. The ship is opening in the New Year for a zombie event. Basically people are chased by horrible zombie creatures that they have to outwit in order to survive! There are also ghost hunting events which are scheduled for December this year. It's a massive milestone reached after not being able to do anything for 34 years and so for that reason I think it's fantastic! She will be available to hire for all sorts of events, not just zombies and ghosts! If it's a success then revenue gained will go towards the ships restoration, For that reason, I'm keeping everything crossed :) x
