I was wondering about the blue tint. Great idea. I’m not a drywall guy but I do drywall work from time to time. Hence probably why I don’t know the tradesmen’s secrets. I love learning new shit.
@@johnbagewll2321 I never tried any other colors. I was just guessing since it is touted as less permanent by the manufacturer, it would be easier to paint over. But now that you mention it, the permanence has nothing to do with bleed through so I dunno why I made that correlation.
The videos are great but as I’ve just learned from mudding my basement nothing can replace experience. By the end I got some decent mud joints but I’m currently spending my day sanding my mistakes and pride away. Thanks for sharing how it should be done though!
Lol I was thinking that too. He forgot to show the “whoops, I didn’t have enough mud so I’m adding more” pass or the “who scraped the bucket and left plastic bits in the mud” pass, and we can’t forget the “oh shit, I forgot this was only 20 minute mud, not 90” pass.
Thanks so much. I’ve been enjoying your videos for 4 years now. You’ve been so much help. I renovated the back of my house into an extended mudroom and hallway/ doorway with your help. I never could’ve done it without you. Thanks
I need these quick tips, I got my first drywall job coming up and I REALLY need help on taping and finishing tips, I’m using a 6” knife and a trowel, just cuz that’s how I was taught, but any ideas and tips would be super useful especially in a UA-cam short, I love all ur vids man ur the best
They way he pulls the trowel up backhanded put my elbow in terrible pain for 6 weeks!😂 Using a 20 inch rounded trowel wasn’t my smartest move I’ll admit! 👊🏾
Did you take this idea from me and the video I did? Just curious cause I thought I was being so original by changing the colour of my mud in a ‘how to video’ for the camera to pick up on it better. Anyways, been following you for a while and always liked your content! Cheers from the east coast
Nice job, BUT, even though I’m a self taught taper (I don’t recommend self-teaching for ANY trade, but I grew up a LONG time ago (long before UA-cam)), I predict a lot more work for doctors using that recent drywall finishing rage of using a cement trowel instead of a taping knife. Wrist, elbow, and shoulder carpal tunnel, along with knee wear-out (because you have to get lower to the base because of the handle, and they don’t have near the reach to the ceiling) will be much more prevalent. Oh well, doctors and Marshalltown are probably smiling..
Can you make another tip video like this but for ocd folk? I can’t keep wiping maybe that’s why I have a chafed rear all the time no but seriously I can’t just do three passes I always find myself messing with the mud too much. Lmao.
I cant decide if this guy is serious or not when he says "there are the 3 passes but it'll take more passes usually" and the other video "now it just needs a sanding and one more coat." A drywallers life is a meme of it's own accord :)
I do 4 to 5 coats.. less sanding.. but 3 is the way to do it if you do it everyday for living. I do small jobs here and there. Thing is with the way i do it is that i gotta give back 2 more times lol then go back a6th time to sand.
i use a 10 inch knife to feathering the edges and i do my last pass with a different trowel with more flex ... its a pain to deal with so many trowel but i like the smoother finish of a flex trowel
Just finished a plaster repair, real happy with it until I rolled paint and a few spots pulled off onto the roller?? It was dry, not dusty, what did I miss?
The only way to be good at something new is to actually do it. There is a feel to most construction that you will never get by reading about it or watching someone.
Been watching his Video's for over 10yrs on UA-cam. @vancouvercarpenter you're the fucking man! Reno'd 2 Houses fully using your guidance for drywall..Thanks my man
Yep Yep Yep and the tendinitis bursitis arthritis will be controlling your life for the rest. Your days in your shoulder and your hands elbow forearm don’t do it. People did it for 55 years I’m crippled.
Good to know I accidentally figured out how to do this correctly while skim coating to repair the shenanigans the previous homeowner did in the master bedroom. I started using the role on technique and a magic trial and lately I've just been using a taping knife to fix the bad spots.
Yay! Blue chalk in the mud so we can see it better!

No smurfs were harmed during the making of this video😂
@@johnbagewll2321 thanks for the tip. I always embrace tips from pros.

@@johnbagewll2321 I'm interested in why are colors used on a job?
Excellent communication & demonstrations

Thank you!! You make it look easy! There’s definitely a knack for it! I hope you are staying busy in this build back better economy we are in😏
I been trying to use a hawk n trowel for 40 years. I give them away. Knife n pan man myself. U looking great 👍 bruh nicely done
Great video!!!! Like the blue mud too...
So is the last pass feathering on the middle? I mean lightly scraping
Less sanding 😂😂😂 I never have to sand.
Food coloring?
It’s a drywall mud tint called never miss
Good idea will get a bottle of the stiff for my next reno for sure thx
This guy is a great instructor!
Sometimes you learn more by a simple quick demonstration than a long drawn out one.😊
I cannot agree more.
Totally agree, I've learned more from these shorts than watching some thirty minute video.
You make that look too easy.
"It will often take more passes than that".
Yep, that's how I work.
You should.make Load Feather Finish Merch. That would be a great slogan on a tshirt
Videos like this are why I like UA-cam. To the point, clear, and showing us something actually meaningful. Thanks!
OMG I so needed to know this several mediocre DYI jobs later. This is transformational!
Looks easy but like many things experts make skilled work look like it is easy to do.
Thanks so much. I’ve been enjoying your videos for 4 years now. You’ve been so much help. I renovated the back of my house into an extended mudroom and hallway/ doorway with your help. I never could’ve done it without you. Thanks
You have single Handedly taught me to mud better than the contractor I hired… haha thank u
Didnt get selected for drywall job. Ill keep applying.
Load feather finish. A nice life lesson. Works great in relationships.
Glad you moved over to shorts! Your vids are great but the shorts are an excellent move too!

I did see another taper for the hard line uses the 6" or 8" blade and for this 3rd time you can use the trowel
My advice don't do it if your a do it yourself home owner...
I love this dude skill ..feather your edge
Load Feather Finish !
Sounds Kinky
Curry trowel for the win 🏆
Load. Feather. Finish.
Feather the edge.
Ben, we need some some Vancouver Carpenter t-shirts!
I’ve been thinking about it
@@vancouvercarpenterI want one to VC.😊
I been looking for a drywall video that explained the steps in feathering. This guy nailed it. LOAD, FEATHER, FINISH. That should be a T-shirt.
yup!
Did you know the directions actually recommended using a damp sponge verses sanding?
And did you know you haven't got a clue what your talking about
Love it! Also love being 1st!
Congrats 🥳
I learned watching Laurier. Instructional videos.
Me too
They way he pulls the trowel up backhanded put my elbow in terrible pain for 6 weeks!😂 Using a 20 inch rounded trowel wasn’t my smartest move I’ll admit! 👊🏾
YES, LOAD, FEATHER, AND FINISH...you are finished. STOP SANDING!!!!!! Why sand if it is smooth?

Mine is load, feather, oh fuck scrape off… load, load… damnit, stop squishing out… ok load, feather, finish, finish, finish… wait this is looking good, finish… drywall screw
Was wondering why the mud wasn't filling in the cracks in the wall. Forgot my phones screen is cracked to shit. Time to go to bed....

Such technical terms to do unskilled labor…not that sophisticated, yah know….
Every second is gold. This is how tutorials should be made.
Such a terrific resource, thank you so much for these videos, really appreciate it.
I’m a broadknife guy, using that trowel looks awkward as F on your wrist.
i use a 10 inch knife to feathering the edges and i do my last pass with a different trowel with more flex ... its a pain to deal with so many trowel but i like the smoother finish of a flex trowel
3 steps, load, finish, pass 👍 wait you went 4 times, what’s that called 🤔 opps 🤦🏼
Just finished a plaster repair, real happy with it until I rolled paint and a few spots pulled off onto the roller?? It was dry, not dusty, what did I miss?
I was getting worried until the end when you said it generally will take more passed. I'm thinking wow I'm way too slow
Interesting vids but what a boring job to do as a career. Every day doing this.....
The only way to be good at something new is to actually do it.

Nope. I just need to know the phone number of a drywall finisher. 👍
I dont get it. Why do i have to smear this stuff on my perfectly plane drywall?
No matter how many video I watch I'll never be this good unless I see it in person.
Funny that exactly like my sex life. Load, feather, finish.
All this work and you can literally punch through these walls 😂
I'm fucking terrible at putting the correct amount of pressure on the edge
That's cool, but I'm still having trouble with my kickflip..
Now you have a hump in the middle. Congrats
Where does the taping come in? Or this is the coat after the taping?
In the process of learning. I appreciate this insight!
Ben…did you tint your mud? 🤨I didn’t think we tinted our mud Benjamin 😉😆
I already know how to do that..but explain it really well.
Been doing this from time. I barely sand.
How much pressure are ypu putting on the finish pass?
Thank you! I have a few holes to patch after repipe
Got it Robin Thicke! No blurred Lines
I just slap it on about an inch thick and go at er with the belt sander.
At which point do i hit the meth pipe to increase productivity?
The second pass sounded like a 50-50 on a rail.
I just want to say this is how you put concrete also just like that
Drywaller and Skateboarder.. never knew that
Why do I feel like I've seen you on a skateboard?
Ben you’re amazing, you make it look so easy.
Did u add washing up liquid to the mud looks that way
Where do u live ur so beautifully tanned!
Might as well finish the wall with plaster bro,
Can’t you just do a supercut of the ACTUAL process rather just giving us the “general idea”?
What kind of pressure on the finish pass?
I just build a real house, thanks.

Load "center"
Feather left and right ...
Pretty much how a Road Grader works too
I just have slaves do my drywall.
is that consider as "skim coating"?
Gj not explaining the last pass...
mmmhmmh! I LOOVVEEE drywall!!
😋✨💖
when the light its it ,you can see the joints .
I kind of hate the word... Trowel
Must be nice to work ona. Flat wall
Let's see a beginner use a hawk an trial
Use a drywall knife not a trowel
Love you teaching videos
Exactly how I learned
Use 5 minute mud and NEVER sand again
Good to see you back big man!!
Omg great instructions…Could have used this 10 years ago but I’m still learning
