I was wondering about the blue tint. Great idea. I’m not a drywall guy but I do drywall work from time to time. Hence probably why I don’t know the tradesmen’s secrets. I love learning new shit.
@@johnbagewll2321 I never tried any other colors. I was just guessing since it is touted as less permanent by the manufacturer, it would be easier to paint over. But now that you mention it, the permanence has nothing to do with bleed through so I dunno why I made that correlation.
Thanks so much. I’ve been enjoying your videos for 4 years now. You’ve been so much help. I renovated the back of my house into an extended mudroom and hallway/ doorway with your help. I never could’ve done it without you. Thanks
I was working with a master carpenter/renovator and he told me that in addition to working with him to learn, I should watch your videos. He was right: you provide good instruction on drywalling.
I will probably never do anything with drywall but, I really like to watch guys that seem to know what they talking about and they have clear communication on how to... load, feather, finish... got it...
Lol I was thinking that too. He forgot to show the “whoops, I didn’t have enough mud so I’m adding more” pass or the “who scraped the bucket and left plastic bits in the mud” pass, and we can’t forget the “oh shit, I forgot this was only 20 minute mud, not 90” pass.
The videos are great but as I’ve just learned from mudding my basement nothing can replace experience. By the end I got some decent mud joints but I’m currently spending my day sanding my mistakes and pride away. Thanks for sharing how it should be done though!
I need these quick tips, I got my first drywall job coming up and I REALLY need help on taping and finishing tips, I’m using a 6” knife and a trowel, just cuz that’s how I was taught, but any ideas and tips would be super useful especially in a UA-cam short, I love all ur vids man ur the best
Just finished a plaster repair, real happy with it until I rolled paint and a few spots pulled off onto the roller?? It was dry, not dusty, what did I miss?
What's the difference in the loading pass vs finishing pass in terms of the technique? Is the finishing pass putting equal pressure on the entire surface of the blade?
i use a 10 inch knife to feathering the edges and i do my last pass with a different trowel with more flex ... its a pain to deal with so many trowel but i like the smoother finish of a flex trowel
I do 4 to 5 coats.. less sanding.. but 3 is the way to do it if you do it everyday for living. I do small jobs here and there. Thing is with the way i do it is that i gotta give back 2 more times lol then go back a6th time to sand.
Can you make another tip video like this but for ocd folk? I can’t keep wiping maybe that’s why I have a chafed rear all the time no but seriously I can’t just do three passes I always find myself messing with the mud too much. Lmao.
Good to know I accidentally figured out how to do this correctly while skim coating to repair the shenanigans the previous homeowner did in the master bedroom. I started using the role on technique and a magic trial and lately I've just been using a taping knife to fix the bad spots.
Been watching his Video's for over 10yrs on UA-cam. @vancouvercarpenter you're the fucking man! Reno'd 2 Houses fully using your guidance for drywall..Thanks my man
Yay! Blue chalk in the mud so we can see it better!

No smurfs were harmed during the making of this video😂

@@johnbagewll2321 I'm interested in why are colors used on a job?
This guy is a great instructor!
Videos like this are why I like UA-cam. To the point, clear, and showing us something actually meaningful. Thanks!

Sometimes you learn more by a simple quick demonstration than a long drawn out one.😊
I cannot agree more.
Totally agree, I've learned more from these shorts than watching some thirty minute video.
Thank you for everything you show I greatly appreciated 👏
Such a terrific resource, thank you so much for these videos, really appreciate it.

Love you teaching videos
OMG I so needed to know this several mediocre DYI jobs later. This is transformational!
You have single Handedly taught me to mud better than the contractor I hired… haha thank u
Excellent communication & demonstrations
You should.make Load Feather Finish Merch. That would be a great slogan on a tshirt
Glad you moved over to shorts! Your vids are great but the shorts are an excellent move too!
You have such good techniques ‼️🫡🫡
Every second is gold. This is how tutorials should be made.
Thank you for your vids! I’ve learned a lot 👍🏻
Your videos are excellent.
In the process of learning. I appreciate this insight!
As a new maintenance mechanic, this was a great lesson. Thank you.ive never known how yo mud right.i feel like I take a long time.
Thank you!! You make it look easy! There’s definitely a knack for it! I hope you are staying busy in this build back better economy we are in😏
Really lovin these shorts man! Super helpful!

Thanks for all your help 🙏 😊❤
Load feather finish. A nice life lesson. Works great in relationships.
Thank you for your videos
You make that look too easy.
"It will often take more passes than that".
Yep, that's how I work.
Omg great instructions…Could have used this 10 years ago but I’m still learning
you're the only one that teaches this basic tip! ty
The videos are great but as I’ve just learned from mudding my basement nothing can replace experience. By the end I got some decent mud joints but I’m currently spending my day sanding my mistakes and pride away. Thanks for sharing how it should be done though!
Sir, you are a very professional instructor, thanks for sharing this video. Leroy Chavez.
Great video!!!! Like the blue mud too...
Looks easy but like many things experts make skilled work look like it is easy to do.
Ben you’re amazing, you make it look so easy.
Awesome tips Bud !
Beautiful!
I love this dude skill ..feather your edge
Good to see you back big man!!
❤ love it great tutorial

I did see another taper for the hard line uses the 6" or 8" blade and for this 3rd time you can use the trowel
My advice don't do it if your a do it yourself home owner...
You are the best thanks for teaching me us
Love watching experts do this!
I been trying to use a hawk n trowel for 40 years. I give them away. Knife n pan man myself. U looking great 👍 bruh nicely done
Didnt get selected for drywall job. Ill keep applying.
I've been following you for a while good information thanks for sharing
Excellent !
When I was in Vancouver I Saw this job and I wanted to try to do drywall... interesting job.
Bro, you're an awesome instructor. Do you add any water to your mudd? It holds up well on that hawk.
Load. Feather. Finish.
Feather the edge.
Ben, we need some some Vancouver Carpenter t-shirts!
I’ve been thinking about it
@@vancouvercarpenterI want one to VC.😊
I been looking for a drywall video that explained the steps in feathering. This guy nailed it. LOAD, FEATHER, FINISH. That should be a T-shirt.
Thank you for this. 🙌🏾

Ur doing a great job in these "shorts" Thanks
Great advice
The blue mud helps a lot, thank you
Wow... someone who knows what they're doing! Impressive, well done, sir!
Thank you😊
Clear. Simple. Concise.👍
The intro alone in most 'How To' videos are at least twice as long as this entire clip. 😣
I love this video ❤❤❤❤
A fantastic skill to have you'll never lack for work. Knowing spanish is a plus in my region
I already know how to do that..but explain it really well.
I scraped a popcorn texture ceiling and used the same method to create a smooth finish. Was a lot of work but turned out nice. Works well 😎👍
I love watching drywall videos and actually doing drywall/mud work. It's so soothing.
Did u add washing up liquid to the mud looks that way

Where u get that 7” thick trawl. Sick!
Do u have to mud the whole entire drywall?
Where does the taping come in? Or this is the coat after the taping?
How much pressure are ypu putting on the finish pass?
THANK YOU SO MUCH
Thanks for these
Love you!

So is the last pass feathering on the middle? I mean lightly scraping
Good job!
Thank You
No matter how many video I watch I'll never be this good unless I see it in person.
What kind of pressure on the finish pass?
Thanks for that 👍
Did you know the directions actually recommended using a damp sponge verses sanding?
And did you know you haven't got a clue what your talking about
is that consider as "skim coating"?
Good to know I accidentally figured out how to do this correctly while skim coating to repair the shenanigans the previous homeowner did in the master bedroom. I started using the role on technique and a magic trial and lately I've just been using a taping knife to fix the bad spots.

I'm going to have a crap load of sanding to do since I didn't know this stuff. Oh fun.
This young man had a ball and socket joint intalled in his elbow so he can do that slick backward pass. Excellent. Thank you, young brother.
Exactly how I learned
How much pressure during the finish pass?
Big Ben doin some shorts yeahhhh❤
Amazing
I am doing level 5 finishes because of Ben many of you already know he is one of the best teachers out there - the Drywall GodFather…
yup!
Nice. Wish mine were that nice. Lol.
