EQ4 Clear hands down has the best all-round sound. And to be quite honest I was suprised I picked it. I did listen eyes closed 5 or 6 times before making my choice. Well done guys.
Funny that you mention this in particular, because I totally agree. I have been loving this head so much 10 years ago. Nowadays, they are hard to find because they have been decommissioned. I managed to get my hands (or beater) on two of them - and still love them!
I really dig the G2 and EQ4 clear and coated. Questions: What sort of damping was done in the bass drum? Could you maybe elaborate on mic placement as well. Thanks for uploading this 👏🏼
I had good headphones on, but it was hard to hear the difference between the bass heads because my brain goes straight to the snare drum. The differences sounded so minute, and maybe they are in the mix of other drums and cymbals.
Luv the vid and the playing....in my opinion that snare tuning is a bit annoying and should/could have been dampened a bit to allow the bass to come through more.
@@RArecordingsRickValcon funny thing it sounds more deep on a Pearl drumset which i always use probably because i don't want a port on my resonant head
Hey, thank's a lot for your evans comparison vids! This will save us all a lot of money and time testing ;-) What snare batter did you use in this video?
am I tripling out? I love Evans; however, I just installed this bass drum head and it feels like I am playing double bass on a trampoline. It is completely throwing off everything. idk may be its just me...sigh
Great job on tuning the heads pretty much the same, excellent for comparison.... but, why the snare is so loud and present on the MIX?! Makes it annoying to listen and difficult to hear the subtil little differences.
For bassdrum there is no better head than evans. I dont know why and although prefering remo and aquarian on toms and snare, searching for the best bd-head evans take the cake.
This is how every comparison vid should be made, well done.

I don’t think people realize just how much work went into that video. Unreal!
I’m a black hydraulic guy myself. Love those heads.
They all sound good for their respective playing styles... I liked the EQ2 Clear
Justo lo que buscaba
Comparación de sonido!! Gracias bro!!!!

So glad you guys made this!
This is the best idea on the internet!
clear eq2 is soooo underrated. sounds the best to me if youre playing rock music
Robert Phescher I agree, didn't sound dead but didn't sound flappy like the G1 and G2.
I believe they've discontinued this model :( It's not on the website, although the EQ3 clear is still fantastic sounding in this clip.
It sounded good but a little too thin. Heavyweight to me sounded fuller and the click was much more meaty.
Funny that you mention this in particular, because I totally agree. I have been loving this head so much 10 years ago. Nowadays, they are hard to find because they have been decommissioned. I managed to get my hands (or beater) on two of them - and still love them!
Grazie di questo confronto! E grande Fede!!
chris coleman uses the eq4 for gigs, i sold his tech some heads when i worked at gc a few years ago
Excellent demonstration, this video took some work, and expense, thank you. I would like to see a Calftone demo.
I really dig the G2 and EQ4 clear and coated. Questions: What sort of damping was done in the bass drum?

Awesome thanks 🙏
im trying to decide between the EQ4 clear and the Emad Heavyweight clear. 😫
they are all great l really like the black coated 😊😊😊😊😊😊
This video must've been very stressful to make. Lol but thanks for the previews! Just bought an Evans EQ4, and it sounds amazing!
Caleb Rivera That was my choice as well. I believe it gives you the best of all worlds, ie attack warmth fullness and rebound.
I had good headphones on, but it was hard to hear the difference between the bass heads because my brain goes straight to the snare drum. The differences sounded so minute, and maybe they are in the mix of other drums and cymbals.
yeah, that overtone ringing snare was not a great choice for this.
Excellent video! Thanks!
The EMAD2 and EMAD Heavyweight are my two favorites!!
That is the right way to do a head comparison! Thank you for the work you put into this! Can you do Remo and Aquarian next? :-)
Luv the vid and the playing....in my opinion that snare tuning is a bit annoying and should/could have been dampened a bit to allow the bass to come through more.
Funny thing is that the EQ2 has the nicest deepest sound of the lot IMO and they’ve gone and discontinued hem! Argh!
I use either Evans EQ2 or Aquarian superkick II on my Yamaha Recording Custom. Guess no more Evans if the EQ2 discontinued...
what about Emad Heavyweight? i'd rather use it just because i'm tired of adjusting tha pillow inside of my bass drum
@@blakedmc1989DrumsHD I don't like the high end.
@@RArecordingsRickValcon funny thing it sounds more deep on a Pearl drumset which i always use probably because i don't want a port on my resonant head
GOOD JOB...GREAT DEMO !!!
Does anyone know what the tune is at the start of this video?
+Andrew Gemmell Master Blaster (Jammin') by Stevie Wonder
SilverStingray1974 Thanks man!
very helpful thanks !!
I can't believe Evans discontinued the EQ2...
tbh i never herd of EQ2 until today probably because i only pay attention to Emad
Hey, thank's a lot for your evans comparison vids! This will save us all a lot of money and time testing ;-)
What snare batter did you use in this video?
evans should be paying you for this much better than their videos, but use a dry snare next time
What about the bassdrum: was it totally empty for all the tests?
Good question! That was my firtst thought too!
Yes.
i have emad...but g2 coated will be next
was there any muffling?
am I tripling out? I love Evans; however, I just installed this bass drum head and it feels like I am playing double bass on a trampoline. It is completely throwing off everything. idk may be its just me...sigh
Love these heads!!
As others have asked, what other dampening is there inside the drum? All of the heads seem to have a very similarly extremely short decay. Is there?
The drums are going through various processors... eq, compression, gate etc
It would be much more helpful if people would post the raw sound
FWIW I have an old emad on my Sonor thin Maple 22 and it sounds like a cannon.
Hey, guys did you put any muffling in the bass drum, and roughly how tight did you tune both heads.... it sounds great!
Thanks
Oli
Same question!
So how'd you tune all these heads? Did you use the Evans Torque Key, the DrumDial, or the Tune-Bot??
bel video complimenti! semplice domanda, qual'è tra queste pelli quella che da più bassi in caso di live acustico senza microfonazioni e tutto? grazie
Too bad the EQ2 was discontinued. That was a great kick head!
they replaced it with emad2.. same head with removable dampening ring.
I don't see the EQ 2 on Evans' website. Is it discontinued ?
Good video
Ehi, ragazzi ti è mettere qualsiasi attenuazione nel tamburo basso e più o meno come stretto hai fatto sintonizzare?

Eq3 coated and eq3 reso gives me the sweet spot on my starclassic birch 24”, add AF patches for durability and extra attack!
Good job!
What head do you recommend for Starclassic BB bass drum?
@@ivanbajovic3476 I would recommend the same I mentioned above for starters!
@@mr.d7429 Thank you
i used to use EQ3 until EMAD came along and i was hooked because i'm tired of pillows and blankets in my bass drums
Great job on tuning the heads pretty much the same, excellent for comparison.... but, why the snare is so loud and present on the MIX?! Makes it annoying to listen and difficult to hear the subtil little differences.
g2 was best depth and weight to it like a bowling ball with good speakers eq 2 also or new eq 3 with flam slam remo pads tho heavy weight sweet too
Nice 😃

what mic is there

Your welcome
Which would you choose for metal and hard rock? I'm thinking about emad heavy...
the only negative thing i can say about this video is the snare sound is so ringy and so upfront that it makes difficukt to hear the bd clearly.
Greatttt
Excelente.
For clear heads Evans,
for coated heads Remo;
IMHO (only for bassdrum heads).
Definitely EMAD2
For bassdrum there is no better head than evans. I dont know why and although prefering remo and aquarian on toms and snare, searching for the best bd-head evans take the cake.
too much post processing to be much use to most players
Si solo se escuchará el puro bombo, sería lo mejor
Ya que el sonido de el snare nada deja escuchar por completo el drumhead del bass
My ear must gone useless. I can't tell any difference between them all !!
Boom bass drum
EQ4 Coated is 4 me
I prefer EQ3

He looks so bored. Regardless, great demo!
emad
all sound the same due to the engineer.
one room mike would have been better. waste of time
Good Video
