    Interesting. U.S. version, but with the Euro headlamps. Now, for the love of God, put some Euro bumpers on this beauty!

      @stevepaza 2 роки тому

      @@herbiee22 ich finde den mit US. Stoßstange viel schöner , aber sogar die Scheinwerfer sollte man auch in der us Version tauschen. Bis heute ist es so dass alle deutsche Autos für den US Markt viel stabiler sind als die Euro Version

      @Herman6507 2 роки тому +2

      @@stevepaza There is ofcourse, and luckily, full freedom of, and variety in opinion. But, and due to new safety regulations in the US at the time, European car companies struggled with dismay to integrate preposterous, oversized bumpers on their US export cars. With all of them, except for the contemporary Volvo's maybe, it took down the design dramatically So no exception for this Benz unfortunately.

    This was my first car in 1995. Had roaches living inside. Everytime I´d make a left turn water would poor down from the dashboard on to my foot. It would accelerate the same uphill as downhill, with the car full of people or empty. The transmission wouldnt go past first gear untill the engine heated up, about 10 minutes. Pretty sure it was 3 speed auto.
    Good thing you could fill it up for 20 dollars back in the 90s.
    My dad bought me this car because he thought I would be safe. LOL
    To think in 1996 it was like owning a car from 2005 today is nuts. A Mercedes for 2005 drives pretty much like a new one. This old Merc drove like a 70s car.

    Very nice and especially original car! Nowadays „milanbraunmetallic“ and „Leder bambus“ are not modern, but at that time . . . In my opinion it looks better with the original German bumpers instead of those big US ones, but it was the law 😱.
    6.9 has been the best S class ever; powerful, timeless elegance and very reliable.
    I have owned two of them; one of the last my father bought beginning of 1980, because he didn‘t like the new W 126 („too much plastic“). It is silvermetallic with black leather interior and every extra you can imagine. Parking heater, seat heating in the back, BECKER Mexico with cassette player and even telephone! B net until 1987 and following C net (still in the car and „working“).
    Second one I bought in summer 1979; it is dark blue metallic with also black leather interior. It was my third new bought Mercedes after a 280E (W 114) in 1973 and a 280E (W 123) in 1977 (both still in my hands).

    Als der 6.9 erschien gab mir die örtliche Mercedes Vertretung diesen Wagen für einen Tag für eine Probefahrt. Ein unglaubliches Erlebnis. Leider war der Wagen damals für mich noch nicht erschwinglich, aber von seinem Nachfolger kaufte ich mir dann das 450 Coupé, das ich natürlich im Werk abholte. Es war ebenfalls ein herausragendes Fahrzeug, aber an die Beschleunigungswerte des 6.9 kam er nicht bhersn, wie ich bei einem persönlichen Vergleich feststellen mit einem Freund mehrmals feststellen. konnte

    If I were to buy this car, the first thing to go would be the attroces US Bumpers.
    I have owned one of these beauties when living in Germany back i the early eighties.
    The best all around car I have ever owned.
    One of the problems to look out for is rust, especially the jacking points and lower body panels beneath the doors..
    It’s a bit short on snort , though, considering the size of engine.
    My 427 LS6 C3 Corvette produced around 500 hp .I had owned before the Benz.
    Overall , it is a beautiful automobile !

    You forgot to mention th special feature for the suspension system. Pull out on that little black "T" Handel above the steering column and the car would drop six inches which provided better aerodynamic performance. A friend had one in their dealership in the mid 80's. while out on a test drive we encountered a tricked out mustang. To make a long story short we left that bugger in the dust.

    the voiceover is too devout. unprofessional blabber read from a broschure. I owned that car and it was the only of its kind registered since 1976 in a small Nation (FL) adjacent to Switzerland. I had wipers for my front beams and strobe lights behind the grill to chase cars away from the Autobahn lane I was travelling on. I later drove it 20 years in Manhattan and another 5 in Palm Beach. Never a scratch, hardly ever a parking fine which went nowhere. A very important feature was the mineral oil based 4 wheels shock suspension, which allowed speeds of 100m over bumbs and "dead" policemen in the asphalt without a rumble.

    It had a few bells and whistles but lackluster performance at best when compared to American cars, especially with the same price point. And the air conditioning was a joke if you were planning on staying cool in the summer heat. They are built well but they aren't all they are advertised to be. Overpriced, gas mileage poor, and maintenance heavy. If you wanted a real luxury sedan back then you could have had any number of Chryslers from the New Yorker to the Imperial LeBaron or the Cadillac, Toronado, Riviera, Ninety-Eight Brougham, or even the Lincoln Continental Elite as just a few examples with just as many amenities, better performance, higher gas mileage, and proven track records to boot.
