I was 21 in 1991, and bought a gold turbo 2 w/ 20k miles. Put every paycheck into it for 3yrs straight. Intercooler. Exhaust. Chip. Turbo. Bigger Fuel Injectors....suspension...etc etc. Best car I ever owned - wish I had saved it these past 30 yrs. Thanks for taking me back. This car was waaaay ahead of its time back then. It has aluminum susp arms, aluminum spare tire, and aluminum JACK from the factory. Throw in the all mighty rotary and its a wrap. I devoured MANY cars back then. The best was a hopped up GN built for dragging. And the RX7 can corner too. xoxox
This was my dream car when I was first out of high school. Literally obsessed with the FC turbo 2.❤️ 50/50 weight balance. Front engine, rear drive. High revving. So cool.
i like them both but i always have special feeling for the FC. its just feel more vintage. FD was a quantum leap for its time. till today its still aged very well. still can't believe FD was made in the 90s.

Petrolicious, do Mazda RX7 posts that shows this car's performance like you do with the Porsches. I had a 1986 base model with the 5-speed standard transmission, no turbo, front disc brakes, rear drum brakes, that I was just fixing. That car was 18 years old when I made the unwise decision to sell it. Even at that age, that RX7 would do 140mph. Once you get into 4th gear and over 4000 rpms, the accelleration is amazing! That car had almost 50/50 weight distribution, and was the most stable and confidence inspiring at high speeds and curvy roads. This is the next car that I will purchase. Other RX7 guys know what I mean.
I had a 10th Anniversary. Miss it a lot. I've had other sports cars including a few other 2nd generations and an RX8. By far the 10th Anniversary was my favorite.
stunning vehicle, and so great to see it go to an owner that can properly care for it. Hats off to Mr. Walker for thinking of the car's needs over his. Would truly have been a waste as a daily commuter.

I was very fortunate to have had a 1988 Mazda RX-7 as my first car...I was 18 years old, fresh out of Boot Camp and attending “A” School in San Diego. I didn’t even have a Driver’s License...I got my DL and then went to the on base USAA credit union to apply for a car loan. 3 days later I was approved for $8000 and they even had a guy there that would seek out cars for you in your loan range. Lo and behold he takes me over to an arrest me red RX-7 with black out tinted windows...it was love/lust at first sight...I KNEW I wasn’t going to leave without her. Mind you, there were a couple of hic ups...it was a manual (which I didn’t know how to drive) and I was 6’4” at the time...didn’t matter. This video makes me really miss my old black infini kuoki turbo II. I sold it about 10 years ago in the uk when it was worth nothing and now the prices are astronomical. Cars we should have kept.....
The first RX-7 was definitely a 924 clone but by this time I think Mazda was going for more of a 944 look. It's funny how similar the Mazda RX7, Nissan 240sx, third gen Toyota Supra looked.
Hi there,. So you know, I have the same exact car with the same color, stached in a garage in NJ. It has been sitting in that garage for about 13 years or more but it has way more mileage. I am also looking to do something with it since I lost interest and would like to get an American muscle car instead. Your car is almost new and is beautiful too. 👍
I had one of these, Turbo II FCs, it was quite nice to drive, but I then got a NA Miata and liked it alot more, it was just pure, uncomplicated fun with no shocking realization at the end of the drive that I just burned soo much fuel. The FC was really great for long-distance travel tho, which I never really used it for.
The Miata was also supposed to be a well-made car, you could drive it for an hour or two without spending an entire summer of weekends trying to fix it. The FC3S RX-7 was the pinnacle of crap build quality--just absolutely horrendous.
The rotary is a really good engine as long as you know how to keep it running. If the apex seals fail, oh well just mix oil in with the fuel. Rev em high off the line to keep the torque steady or it will bog pretty badly, only having 140hp and 100 something torque is a Lil touchy sometimes, don't Rev over 9000 keep it below 8750, 8500 to 8600 is a good spot to stop cause over revving it will shred the apex seals and potentially break it. They actually aren't that bad on gas, their only a little expensive if the apex seals go and you have to do the oil mixture.
The designer has said they were *heavily* inspired by the Porsche 924/944, to capitalise on the western markets love of the car. So it makes sense really.

Love these! Learned to drive a manual on a white 88 RX7 cabrio.
I owned one just like it , got me in a lot of trouble, loved it. before that I owned the 87 model which was where I learned to drive manual
No doubt he's a Walker. The smile and eyes, just like his brother.
Except no minors lol
came here from Donut's video. two passionate men rescued this car.
Stunning example of an RX-7 and amazing story!
She have praticly a same design to Porche 924.
Because Mazda actually copied it to make it the 924's rival. And ... It worked!
Practically.
The first RX-7 was definitely a 924 clone but by this time I think Mazda was going for more of a 944 look. It's funny how similar the Mazda RX7, Nissan 240sx, third gen Toyota Supra looked.
a much prettier car than the porsche 924 (to my eye at least)
The FC looks better
👍
Believe it or not, but it's my first time to Petrolicious, and needless to say, it won't be the last 👍
Fact that I see this on Donut and Petrolicious shows I’m following the rite car channels
Love, love, love manuals! Thanks for another ride in one.
Mazda needs to bring back the RX-7.
We miss you Paul❣🙌🌠
What a great history of this RX-7!
what a beautiful time capsule of a car..
Had an 88 normally aspirated. Absolute blast to drive when it started
The best RX7 generation made in the golden age of motoring.
#Bumper2bumper part 2!! 😘 ✌
Exactly
yeah. what a coincident. both of them released at the same time
Cars with stories. Loveee them
Such a beautiful car.
Louvres. And an '88 FC3S. Take note kids, this is how a man of culture look like.
Is this car for sale?
Very beautiful rx7!
I owned an '86 RX-7. It was a load of fun. Waaaay overpriced but lots of fun.
I had a 1986 turbo. It was wonderful.
Probably the closest 80's car to a motorcycle you can buy.
That's lovely, a special edition too. My first one was also white, UK cars came with tiny rear seats.
only if paul could see this now very cool story ! miss my black t2
Like his brother 👍🏻
Got to drive a Brand new still had plastic on seats. I put the mirrors on it. This car was a 1988 mazda RX-7 GXL. Wish i still had it.
As always great cars great stories just makes you warm and fuzzy
The RX-7 has always reminded me of the Porsche 928.
The designer has said they were *heavily* inspired by the Porsche 924/944, to capitalise on the western markets love of the car. So it makes sense really.
Definitely! they're like long lost brothers
Did they ever release these models with digital clusters? asking since most late 80's jdm cars come optional.
Boy do I miss my TurboII 😢
WHO DOESN"T LOVE ROTARY,especially RX's!
I just seen this car on Bumper2Bumper by the Donut guys. A prestine example of a RX7. I'm sure it's worth some dough
Great job Sean. All the best!
Doesn't get more retro than this.
Unreal! What an epic story!!
Great story!! Awesome video!! Thank you!
