It cracked me up when Marthana said maybe Dina doesn’t cook. Her grandfather started Post Cereals. And her mother Marjorie Merriweather Post. She purchased the Birdseye Frozen Foods Corporation. Before most folks even owned freezers. 🌽🥕

    • @lawsonj39
      @lawsonj39 Рік тому +2

All of those facts could very well explain why Dina might not cook; she grew up wealthy enough to have others cook for her. Still, interesting to learn about her background: thanks for sharing!

I find her, Barbara Rush, and Vera Miles in the same category in beauty and talent.
      Barbara is my favorite.
Shame, SOME people think only of "worth" in monetary means?
I hate that question in the biographies..
      Worth?
      A movie,an actor?..
Spencer Tracy, in inherited the wind?
What's the "worth" to OPEN A mind?
      This
really a message to the other reply!
      Thanks.

That one contestant was a sharp cookie! She was good. When the word "Pump" came up, all I could think of as a clue was gasoline-but they never used it. I wonder if they had used it, the password would have actually been figured out. Nice episode!

I don't know if they had sump pumps back in those days but I would've said "Sump!" Sort of drawn-out, indicating am leading to another word (connected). Plus it rhymes which could help.

Wowzers Marthanna was one hell of a player, really on the ball, but it was a bit distracting her talking between clues, I think Allen was struggling a bit to keep control, which normally he does so well. Even today what she won was quite sizable, but with inflation....

What's funny is the ONLY other place I've ever heard the referenced Chicago restaurant name spoken (Pump Room) is in a comedy sketch by the Upright Citizens Brigade entitled "Ass Pennies." (If you are sensitive to potentially offensive words , etc, you may want to pass on looking it up :-)

    • @randigerber1926

I didn't know about the Chicago Pump Room, but in Bath, UK, there is a famous restaurant called the Pump Room. It's been in business for over two hundred years. I've never been, but it is mentioned in a Georgette Heyer book, I think. It has that name because it was near the famous Bath hot springs.
