I'm so happy. Buckram types explained! The ONLY video out there! Believe me, I've looked. Can #1 be used as header? If yes, wash the starch out first, or as is? I used it to restore the outside of an antique steamer trunk. I covered, painted and sealed it. The result was exactly what I wanted. SO close to original. OFS is out of stock 🥺 It'll take me another 6 months to figure out my pleat spacing. I HATE MATH!📏😖🤣

I suppose you could! You don't have to wash out the starch! If you want something that is a very specific shape, you can wet it and form it to shape, or if you are just looking for stabilization, you can use it as is. Just as a quick tip, the woven buckram is pretty much the same as the traditional buckram. Also, just as an FYI, we do have stock of all of these right now! Any back orders will be notated on our website.

I have been at the short end of needing 6 inch horsehair ribbon so I cut some buckram on the bias and used it. Very successful

What type of buckram should I use if I’m using lace and lining drapes? I would greatly appreciate your help. Is there a difference? Is there cheaper types and more expensive types?

Isn't it?! My mind is going into overdrive thinking about projects that we can make with the traditional buckram.

Do you reckon that to keep shape, you could use a medium or heavy weight iron-on interfacing instead of buckram (for example when making a large bag)? Thanks!

Absolutely! Buckram is a pretty specific product. It is really good for drapery headers and hats but for projects like making bags, I would recommend interfacing or a stabilizer. You can find those here - www.onlinefabricstore.com/product-group-interfacing-and-stabilizers.aspx

    So now I know

There is a word - interfacing. Or another, stabilizer.
Pirating the word buckram to mean these things instead of the specific few things it’s covered for centuries is just causing confusion.

Buckram is not the same as apparel interfacing. What is demonstrated here is actual buckram.
