Perfectly stated!!! People don't understand when it comes to crafting if it's difficult it causes you to focus more and you're more relaxed You're not even focused on anything else but that thing in the moment it is definitely therapy!
@@LoveGodOutloudwhat you also don’t understand is that people who have to resort to reuse things, don’t have the money to spend on materials when you can buy a basket for less.
I think if you have time and materials and enjoy doing diys this is a perfect idea. I think the people saying “I would just buy this” don’t understand that. This seems like it would be a nice project for anyone on vacation or in need of art therapy!
Okay y’all let’s be honest… if you’re a crafter/DIY’er, then you already know how expensive materials can be. Sure you can go to the dollar tree and skimp on the quality but in the end you’re still spending money regardless. I like having the satisfaction of being able to create stuff myself. And like she said she’s reusing and repurposing a cardboard box so that’s a benefit too. I think her creation is lovely and might try to make my own. Thanks so much for the video… I enjoyed it
but I'm not a crafter or a DIYer for fun. I'm just trying to save some money. So when I look up stuff like this, it's always disappointing when I watch the video fully and find out that they lied about it being a money-saving hack. I'd just prefer that they advertise the video more honestly. say it's a cute craft without acting like it's cheaper than the store bought version
As a DIYer and crafter, I have so many acquired items - yarn, rope, lace, and embroidery floss - I love the idea of giving those items a new life. Having access to these exact items is not the true purpose of the craft. As newlyweds, and honestly my entire childhood, we were ‘financially disadvantaged’ and being creative with cardboard, newspaper, and paste/glue were our decorative best friends. No dollar stores. No Walmart. Fabric recycled from clothes - mostly hand-me-downs. How quickly we forget how to be resourceful when a pebble is in the road.
The glue stick packages I buy for $1.25 at The Dollar Tree are the same quality as at the crafting store. I use the smaller glue sticks as more of my projects require this. I prefer to customize my items instead of looking exactly like Crate and Barrel or Ikea. I like this channel has given tips to avoid amateur mistakes so finished looks more professional.
Agreed! Also the material might cost the same as the basket you buy, but you can make 2 or 3 and people buy it for more than the mass produced at the store. It is more beautiful handmade and just the sheer effect makes worth more to others. I'm in agreement with Dawn and the others commenting, it's about the unique designs and/or handmade efforts 🤗❤️👍🏽💯
@@Slla-th5vt @Slla-th5vt I guess depends on the point of view. It is still do it yourself basket to me because you put yhe materials together to for the product. Just like painting or alcohol markers to make designs and drawings for stationaries. The materials aren't home made but the project is DIY. I understand your point of veiw though 😊👍
You can’t deny how beautiful this came out! I love how it’s completely finished, inside and out, even the bottom. For extra sturdyness, you can also glue down a metal wire along the box edges, underneath all the rope. The rope will hide it, but it gives the box just a little bit more strength.
I love seeing people upcycle or recycle!!! Less in the landfill! And yes, if you’re making one box and buying the stuff for one project it’s probably not cost effective. But if you make multiples and create them to your liking it’s worth it. And some people, like me, love to make pretty things for myself, to share with friends and family, or to sell
This basket is really pretty. Way too much work, but this person reminds me of my mom. When my brother and I were little my mom loved making crafts , from paintings, to making her Christmas decorations, to stuff animals and even most of our clothing, she always helped to save money. Those are great memories that’ll always be with me.
@@QueenLucifer777 why? don't underestimate the strength of a cardboard. The type of cardboard she made is very strong. What other materials are you proposing then?
I love to see these projects! I grew up in the 70s/80s- we NEVER just threw everything away- if anyone thought it might prove useful in the future- it was stockpiled. I TRIED to pass this along to my children but I am ALWAYS AMAZED at the things they will automatically toss in the trash. Our planet & our pocketbooks would be in much better shape if we could get this newer generation to realize that there is value in so many of the items they trash. I also love the feeling of accomplishment that comes each time I finish another UP-CYCLED creation!
I'm from the same time. I think that we didn't throw stuff out that could be a supply helped develop our creativity and imagination. It was that or die of boredom!
I don't know man, I grew up in the 80's and 90's and I keep so much junk that I wish I could get rid of but don't for a multitude of reasons. My house is ok, just very cluttered. My problem is that I see so many useful things I don't want to get rid of, but when I need them, I have no idea where they are and end up having to rebuy them anyway. Trust me you don't want all that excess junk. It would be good if it were easier to donate useful things to people.

@@FaultyFrontalLobe i know some people don’t agree with me for one reason or another when it comes to recycling. But some thing I do is go through both of my adults daughters trash to dig out the recyclables, especially the plastic, and any dry paper or all sorts out. It’s very frustrating because she grew up with me doing that. I don’t know why she doesn’t seem to care. She also has a cycling bin and will put some stuff in there, but not everything. And usually what she puts in there is not even recyclable.🙄 like styrofoam., I may not get it right all the time, but I try my best. And whenever I take a walk, I will take a trash bags and gloves with me to pick up trash. I try to separate them so i can recycle that stuff as well. I also use as little as water as possible. And try to not purchase things in plastic containers. If I do, i will try to find a way to use it for another purpose. One thing I love doing is reusing glass candle holders. Especially the ones like from Bath and Body Works. I’ve seen people put a candle stick holder on the bottom and use it for something else. Also you can put a pretty knob on the lid. I really like the ones that are colored but you have to be careful because you can easily scratch the “paint” off. I did that when I was using it a blade to remove stickers.I started using Goo Gone or WD40. I could go on and on(more than I already did 😂). Just trying to give ideas for those who might not know. One more quick one. I’ve seen really neat ideas with tin cans and the tubes from toilet paper and paper towels. (Sorry again for those of you who may already know) i saw someone make some very pretty snowflakes with them!!!!
Ok, I admit it's quite pretty. BUT it's not cheaper than to buy a "ready basket." You have to organzize all those materials and that is expensive, too!
@birgit-it depends. I already have a glue gun, tons of boxes from a move, and fabric. Now you might have to spend money on the rope. I would not mind making a few baskets of my own. I have spent maybe $20 to $30 on pretty big size baskets in the past.
Saludos
For those that have the time to do this, that's amazing, and I'm sure so satisfying! Even if I did have the time, I would use it for something that I deeply enjoy. What a time to be alive, when there are so many resources at our fingertips, whatever you choose to do...just glad you're enjoying life!
I have made several storage boxes this way (hot gluing rope around the cardboard box) but I've not tried a woven pattern like this. I made two covered boxes for my daughter for Christmas and they were customized for the size of the shelf she has. I love saving things from landfills. Very beautiful!

Great tutorial! Thanks for sharing. Crafters know crafting is therapeutic like nothing else. And to those complaining about her choice of materials...hey! You can always buy exactly the sort of materials you prefer to use. It is obviously customisable, and that's the absolute fun in crafting. 🥂
Are you freaking kidding me?! This is so cool! Lol I know people are complaining about all of the materials and what not, but seriously, this came out so dang cute. For the folks who like crafting, this is almost therapeutic and then seeing your work at the end is just so rewarding. If you can afford to get the extra materials and take the time to do something like this, pat yourself on the back. This was mind blowing to me lol ❤
Some of my fav storage boxes have fallen apart over the years and I was surprised to see they are heavy cardboard with woven designs glued on. This was an industrial quality DIY🙌🏾 nice work
@@kalintini yeah, people dont realise that things like this are actually cardboard. If you didn't want to use cardboard you could get a plastic one and repurpose it with this design. It will still work.
This is a lovely project. The nice thing about it is that you can customize the size. If you have a cubby that is a odd size you can make a basket that is a perfect fit. This seems like something that I will be doing during those lazy evenings during the summer when I take a break from my other fiber arts. Thank you for this project. I will be looking at your channel to see what else you have crafted.👍
I find a tremendous satisfaction in all my forms of creative expression. As I have gotten older, I have furnished my home with nothing but my own creations- and I am no where near an artist. I just find creativity a spiritual experience to highly value.
If you already happen to have all the tools you need to make this, with the exception of maybe one or two things then this is super convenient and a great addition to anyone’s storage space! Very cute!
If you use what you already have (yarn, ribbon, etc) then you’re not spending money to do this which really does make it very economical. I have yarn that I need a place to put, but I don’t want to spend crazy money on these baskets or other organizers. This is perfect bc I can get a box for free from work or Walmart. Great idea and great job!!!
Several of these would make a great baby shower gift for diapers, small toys, or grooming items for the baby and small children. Thank you for sharing this and HAPPY HOLIDAYS!
I buy the $40 basket at the store because I make more than $20 an hour and this would take me literally 12 hours to make LOL. However it is beautiful and you are very talented!! One of the proofs that teaching children to make things by hand is important and wonderful, as they grow up to be especially creative and productive.
Well yes, and doing things like THIS are generally better than stalking your ex and his new gf during THOSE lovely times in our lives, so.... RE-DIRECTION of emotions and then hey- you also get a basket! 🤷♀️😁😳
I grew up making so many different things! My mom was usually busy, so she'd buy all sorts of kits she liked and give them to me to make. I was like 12 doing adult complicated projects. I loved it. I'm an artist now.
Love, love, love this! Ty for sharing how to do this. It is such beautiful therapy! My mom lives digging in the dirt and has beautiful yards. Not my thing, but this I could do all day everyday! I can hire someone to care for my yard. lol 😂
I love that you can make just what you need, in just the right size and colors for you with little material. Fabric and trim are often found here in thrift/charity shops (US) for very little $. Wonderful Job!!! and like others said, GREAT THERAPY!!!
Beautiful! Nothing is more rewarding than enjoying something you have made with your own two hands. Hopefully others will see this and choose to do this craft with their child or niece and nephews which creates unimagineable value towards their future chosen activities. Thank you for sharing such a beautiful craft! ✌💗
I think this is a great idea. Lots of negative feedback about the time consumption and how it’s easier to buy one. Yes… it is. But, this is a plastic free option and if you’re a crafter, then you know the satisfaction that comes from making something from scratch, once it’s finished. Plus.. no plastic in this video! Great video!
You only have to buy 20 rolls of brand new rope and several packages of hot glue and a gun to make it. Plus 10 hours of time you will never get back. 😂
And tools to cut out the handles (unless you've already got that style of knife and straight edge). I think it looks nice and all, but it's one of those things that isn't really upcycling. You're just using a box as a loom.
@@anne-marielapointe-sp3mjacting like a lot of crafty people don't already have this stuff on hand....the type of crafty people this video is aimed to 🤔
Love this idea. It would be fun to make and get to say "I made this". Also, for those saying you can buy them for cheap. NO WAY would you find something that looks this nice for less than $15 each.
I am an American, and I am reading this sight. I have wisteria growing in my backyard. I am thinking about making it with that instead of cardboard. Hopefully soon.
Ok, so I get everyone’s negativity when it comes to cost of project versus cost of new basket, but for someone that’s trying to organize a small space, it’s a great idea! I can find, or even cut down a box, to the perfect size for the space I need it in. Thank you for this video!
Yeah the creator of the video had to bring this to the table with the annoying title. She could name it 'Handmade box inspired in the home decor shops' or whatever
I love the idea of recycling at least _some_ materials, like the boxes. It makes more sense to make a box the very size one needs, rather than making or buying a box, then deciding what fits into it. Very nice and clear tutorial. Thank you also for leaving the mistake in the video, so we can see how to fix it!
I live in Florida and glue simply does not resist the humidity. I hate anything having to do with a glue gun. That said, your boxes are beautiful and I sure would love and treasure having one!
DIY is totally not my style, but when I come across a video that is explaining it very well and is very well edited I am watching it untill the end just to say Nicely Done, my respect. ❤
I find your channel interesting, I read to post one post read, and you can buy baskets at a store cheaper, 2nd post read, in which I agree, when you make a gift or anything anything with your hands, it comes from the heart, and that means a lot, people or even the person making the item, will cherish it more.❤
So beautiful and creative I am thinking about using some yarn I bought years ago and it's acrylic which I don't like anymore. Very thick and looks like rope too. Love the weaved design! Everything I have at home already and won't cost me a dime. Plus it's therapeutic and I love crafting

That looks like a fun project. Maybe not cheap... But cardboard definitely makes a nice form for weaving. I have used flat pieces of cardboard for weaving looms before. Never thought about using a whole box! 😃
Absolutely beautiful!! This was an amazing tutorial and I love the fact that you can get so creative with just a cardboard box, string, fabric and some glue. I'm definitely going to try this project out. Thank you so much for sharing!! 🌟
Wow, I'm doing this. I love crafts & always complain about all the waste of Amazon boxes. Good way to recycle. I can use the baskets in so many ways; as gift baskets, as stylish cubby baskets in my closet, bathroom or bookshelf. A toy basket. Use on the kitchen counter to hold bread or fruit. Fill and place in the guest room with essentials for overnight guests. Use to hold extra blankets, magazines or yarn. Use to display flowers or plants hiding the plastic pots. I can go on and on. Thank you❤
Do not worry about buying cheap baskets in the shops. The benefits are the pleasure of being creative and also the fact that you can customise it to suit what size or colour you like. It is fun and rewarding. 🎉 If you are a crafter as a hobby you will already have a glue gun and string and cardboard lying around in the house anyway. 😊
That was very smart to fill the gap in the bottom of the box! I didn't think of that, and that idea is especially good when compared to the more abrasive/weaker-resulting ways of getting a flat bottom.
Thank you for the inspiration! I moved to a place where things like this aren't sold, so much we make ourselves or do without. This is a beautiful craft that I have been meaning to try. Great video!

Young people (or anyone that used to live with their parents and moved out with only the necessities) don't have crap lying around to repurpose 😢, so for me to start up my craft collection, I had to start by buying materials. At first everything I made was expensive because after all the materials I bought and the amount of time I took in creating my craft, it was mathematically more expensive than me buying whatever from the store. NOW, older with my own home (renting but kept all my crap) I have come to save up anything I can repurpose and It's truly worth it, to start doing your own stuff even if you have to spend more money on getting the materials, which lets face it we STILL do it but we never tell anyone 🤫. This looks great!! 👏
Absolutely beautiful and you have talent but here’s my comment by the time you buy the material and everything to do this you could’ve bought one. Yes, it was fun watching you do the basket and it shows that you have enormous amount of talent.👍😊
£3.00 for a set of 3 woven similar boxes in B&M. I've had mine for years and you can clean them out with baby wipes/antibacterial wipes. I save my huge amount of Amazon boxes to lay on the garden for 'no dig' veg plots.

We don't have cheap places like Dollar Tree in Brazil. Over here, it would really be shocking.
And you get the joy of the process!
I think it's more about doing it yourself rather than just going to the department store buying someone else's design...
I LOVE IT !
Anything mass produced is going to be cheaper. I love this too!
But you still buying ready printed paper and ready made string for the weaving. It is still already pre-prepared design.

The rope will hide it, but it gives the box just a little bit more strength.
if box gets moldy, can't see mold. Probably better to do this with a plastic tote instead

Maybe use a better material than cardboard.
Thank you for sharing this, you touched my heart. My mom and grandma did similar activities.

Please tell my husband because he calls me a hoarder when I save boxes to upcycle materials. 😂

Exactly this! Every day, I try to reduce my carbon footprint anyway I can.

True, but by the hand crafted is just something else to appreciate.

The only thing really expensive there is the glue gun but if you are the crafty type then it essentially pays for itself via vestment.

Totally agree. I can buy one here in New Zealand 🇳🇿 store bought for around $15 NZ dollars. The glue gun, paper, string etc would cost more.
Thrift stores have lots of nice baskets that could be cleaned and painted
£3.00 for a set of 3 woven similar boxes in B&M. I've had mine for years and you can clean them out with baby wipes/antibacterial wipes. I save my huge amount of Amazon boxes to lay on the garden for 'no dig' veg plots.
Sometimes material is leftover from other projects and we just want to get rid of it
I would rather make something any day instead of buying it. This is a cute project. Plus, it’s cat-approved; can’t do better than that!😊
Wow. The fact that she could even do this is to a cardboard box..lol Gorgeous
Nunca vi algo tão bem feito e com acabamento tão perfeito!! Parabéns!!

The raw edges that are glued are tucked away. Never seen such nitpicking. Karen's.
Hola y como se llama esa cuerda ?
Nobody would say its a cardboard box.
Simple knitting, finishing is Superb
Looks too beautiful 🙏
I believe I said "This is sooo pretty" to myself a dozen times 😅 So happy I ran across this.My only complaint is the fact that I'm going to be stuck for the next couple hours (while starting the process of putting plastic over my windows that I've put off for months) watching all your videos 😂😂😬 Thank you for sharing ❤

Best basket ever! Thanks for the video!
This basket is so beautiful, and it was so peaceful and fulfilling to watch you create it. Thank you for sharing your fabulous talent with us❤
You are a genius. This is unique. This is therapy. This is something beautiful that is not mass made. I will definitely try it out. Thank you for sharing.🎉
I'm addicted to bamboo, wicker and rattan....and if I walked into a store where a display of my addiction was presented...and your basket...I would grab it up instantly...run to the cashier and pay...in fear of someone eles grabbing it from me.
It's so beautiful and creatively different.
And to the poopers who don't have time...and just consume...they are responsible for the billions of tons of garbage and waste every community in the world can accumulate. I reuse everything twice if I can. I don't shop new....very,very rarely...but I'm also talented like you and can make pretty much everything. Taught both my kids how to be resourceful...and reuse...stay organized. Now 41 & 45...and both have done quite well especially in times of money issues.
Keep up your beautiful work...I LOVE IT.❤
I love it! I know that I wouldn’t do this just because is cheeper to do it yourself, because the materials can be more expensive than the basket itself, but because I love arts and crafts projects and this one is beautiful and well done. Thank you!!!
