Shows kpop idols who are all very skinny... Just cause they have different figures, doesn't mean they're not still skinny. If anything, this shows me just how ridiculously high the standards are. A female idol could be maybe 2 kg heavier then her groupmates and people will point it out and either body shame them for it or call them 'healthy' (which isn't a bad comment, it's just unnecessary). Also, half of these idols are literal kids, I know we've pretty much normalised it to talk about kpop idols and their bodies like they're objects, but still it doesn't hurt to call it out from time to time. This is an industry where being extremely skinny is the standard, so while this video isn't insulting these idols, to these idols this is definitely not gonna feel like a compliment

It's a improvement though.. from the standard stick thin aspiring Eugenia cooney look that was imposed by company society standards to more idols who are looking normal slim like average women in their society, skinny but healthy range of weight is an improvement. Yes we cannot expect a body shape like Kim k or Ashley Graham or lizzo to suddenly be chosen as trainees.. Korea beauty standards are one of the most strict, even a little change is something positive it's one step in the right direction that is body diversity... It will be some more years though when we will see more diversity ie skinny to normal to curvy to plus size hopefully

They're all very skinny, but all of them have very different body shapes, like the ones mentioned in these videos. Granted, snsd definitely also went through horrible bodyshaming, because kpop fanculture is just like that, but what's shown in these videos isn't something new.
Right? Let's begin with the fact that 45kg is not a healthy weight unless you're a pre-teen of around 13 years old. As a South American myself and as someone with a stereotypical "South American body", I can tell you I haven't weight bellow 55kg since I was 13 y/o. And isn't it a kick in the teeth to see that kind of headline... In regard to the first idol the video talks about, at least she is hitting the gym and doing something different...
Like you mention in a comment below, different body types have always existed in K-Pop, just like in the rest of the world. The thing with K-Pop is that netizens will bully you into starving yourself to uphold an 'idol image' that they themselves don't really follow and that is damaging for the idol's' bodies. Is something that I don't understand in Korean culture.
And let's not even mention the fact that there's no way in heaven or hell to please them, 'cause if you're skinny, you're too skinny, your bones will break, but if you gain enough weight to have your period regularly, then you're too fat, you're ruining the group's image... I don't even like Ive all that much and I can't believe what they're doing to Liz for no longer weighting less than 50 kg - and being over 1,70cm.

To be honest, when it comes to opposing the skinny beauty stantards, to me Hwasa is the first who comes to mind. Her and her famous "if I'm not fitting the standards, I will create the new standards". Sadly, she faced lots of hate because of her body image, but her example had inspired many girls to not be ashamed of their body shapes.
To me, it's Hyolyn that comes first and then Hwasa. We always neglect older kpop idols when it comes to breaking beauty molds when they were the ones that did it way before them and created an opening for them to be who they are.

However, I did once check some of Hyolyn works, gotta admit, she's amazing and really fits this aesthetic, not to mention her skills. Her (together with Bibi) performance at 2022 MAMA is still my favorite 😭 so yeah, I guess you got the point!

If we want to go even earlier as to who started the tan skin trend, we can also look to Lee Hyori, who was the original singer of "U-Go-Girl" that Yuna from Itzy recently did a cover of. (Just in case you didn't know her - if you do, you're the real mvp) haha.

Kpop idols are athletes. They go thru rigid training and have to be able to withstand the physical demands of choreo. If that's done in a healthy manner then whatever body type they have isn't a problem. Just like with any job you have to be able to perform your duties.

The only one who makes sense is Sohee, the rest are the same standard girl group body types and actually inverted triangle is the most common body type of girl group members so Heejin isn't special or breaking any standards. Im not gonna lie I laughed at the perpero comment but we can call out the toxic standards shaming girls into being super unhealthy and skinny without bullying people who can actually naturally have these body types. Again want to point out that all but one person in this list has the standard body type in Korea. Stop praising and hyping up the unrealistic standards. They might starve themselves to look a certain way. It’s their body and not everyone looks the way that you want them to look. This is also why I don’t like calling these artist idols. The word idol (literal and common use) means to be worshipped. I think this term is doing more harm than good to these young artists. Yes, they stand out Bc of their beauty, abilities and gifts,to a point where they do deserve to be shown to the world and still hold a certain responsibility of being a public image but they are still human, not small gods. These go for American artists too such as Beyoncé, Nicki Minaj etc even though Americans don’t necessarily use the term idol, but they say they are worshipped by their fans and constantly criticized is scary
