I am a former member of GAEREA, blackmetal from Portugal.. GAEREA played with batushka twice in Portugal: RCA club Lisbon and Hard Club Porto while I was still a member. This sounds exactly how it should assuming it is the same composer, so IMO, Krzysztof Drabikowski is the true composer here.

@@willrfrench There's a legal battle going on right now about who owns Batushka and the copyright. Krzysztof kicked Bartguy out of the band, then Bartguy kicked Krzysztof out. Bartguy has control of all the old official social media and the band, and they are signed to Metal Blade Records who, in spite of legal documents saying that Bartguy isn't allowed to release shit under the name "Batushka", is releasing the new "Batushka" (which, tbh, sounds pretty fucking crappy going by the music video). Krzysztof is fighting to get back what is rightfully his. He did fucking start the band, it's his fucking idea.
That's one side of the coin. The side I'm on. And listening to this just made me even more sure who the actual Batushka is.

@@Rivets13 I did yesterday. However, it still doesnt change my point of view. One thing is arguable and it is costumes -Drabikowski says he is behind costumes, Bielemiuk says, that Krysiuk is behind them, so not sure about this...
But about other points of the post I'm certain. I think it is not really important who booked the concerts, who popularized Batushka etc. It is not a boy band :D Only thing I think is important is who made the lyrics, melodies and whole atmosphere and that is Drabikowski for sure - you can hear it for yourself if you compare this album to Krysiuk's song

It's a shame that this album was surrounded by the band's conflict, i think is truly an evolution from the first album: it's angrier, more dramatic, sadder... As someone in band's bandcamp said: "A soundtrack to gain faith, or lose it."

My father's an Orthodox Preist from Poland. I'm not a religious man but everything about this feels like a voids been filled.

Even though I don't believe in a god I still value the philosophical and cultural aspects of it. Unfortunately it has been tainted by human creed and how certain leaders take advantage of it to inspire hate, assert power, dominate land etc.

What happened ? I just now found this great album
Olive Mule The hired gun vocalist Bartłmej Krysiuk copyrighted the name of the band and tried to kick Krzysztof out of the band even though Krzysztof wrote literally all of the music. They're currently having a legal battle of the rights to the name Batushka
I saw them perform Panihida the other night in Manchester. Perhaps one of the best live acts I’ve ever seen. The way they played sounded just like it does on record. I couldn’t recommend them to a metal fan any more than I do now.

In my opinion, this is the best opening I have ever heard to a metal album, the wall of emotion and the sheer atmosphere it sucks you in from the very beginning is unlike anything I have ever heard before. It’s been a long time since I’ve actually listened to something that actually moved me to my foundations. GOD DAMN THAT FUCKING GALLOPING RIFF THAT RIPS OUT IN THE 1:30 MINUTE MARK IS SUCH PRIMAL, UNBRIDLED RAGE AND COMPOSURE.

В октябре 2019 года моя бабушка, живя в другом городе, сказала мне по телефону что у нее рак кишечника. И что требуется операция. Я ее поддерживал и подбадривал как мог, говорил о том что все получится и что все будет хорошо. Положив телефон на стол, меня хватала паника, я не знал что мне делать. И мне было очень страшно ее терять, потому что очень ее люблю. Приближался день операции. С каждым днем я волновался все сильнее и сильнее. Затем он наступил. И спустя сутки после наркоза она очнулась, и слабым голосом сказала что операция прошла успешна. Я был очень счастлив был услышать, и стал тихонько радоваться тому, что скоро она выздоровеет и я обязательно ее навещу.
Проснувшись утром на следущий день мне звонит дедушка и говорит что бабушка умерла. Я никогда так долго не молчал. Больше всего я не мог понять, почему так случилось? Ведь операция прошла успешно? Но в последствии выяснилось, что пока шла операция и подготовка к ней, она совсем не пила таблеток рассасывающих кровь, и как результат умерла она не от рака кишечника, а от тромбоза... Сразу на следущий день после того как я услышал что она вылечила свой рак...
Я собрал вещи и полетел в Саратов, оттуда еще 3 часа до города где она жила, потом на следущий день похороны...
И вся эта история к тому, что музыка играющая с 07:46 до 11:42 лучше всего описывает то, что я чувствовал в тот день.
Бездонная, черная и поглощающая скорбь. Злоба, обида, сожаление, отрешение от реального мира, непонимание того зачем нужна жизнь, и ведь на фоне всех этих темных чувств, словно маленький лучик в далеке - надежда. Надежда о том, что сейчас с ней все хорошо, и что сейчас она в лучшем мире. Каждый раз когда я слышу эту песню, я плачу.
Спасибо тебе Кристоф. Берегите своих родных.

Прошло 2.5 года как произошла потеря у меня, и уже как то легче.. Прошу прощения за такую грубую прямоту, но если тогда я плакал каждый день, то сейчас ну может раз в месяц или два. Самое прекрасное это добрая память о человеке которого любил, по говнюкам всяким которые людям жизнь травили обычно не плачут, а вздыхают с облегчением)

Metal needs more bands like this, bands that challenge musical boundaries and deliberately try to break the mold. Batushka, Ruins of Beverast, Clouds, and Dragged into Sunlight are unorthodox blessings upon the scene.

I'm assuming you're familiar with Cult of Fire? If not you'd probably appreciate their art. I find them incredibly talented and interesting, drawing upon Aghori Hindu spirituality and having a uniquely melodic sound, they certainly don't fit the typical black metal mold at all in my eyes.
Ascetic Meditation of Death is a good place to start with Cult of Fire I think, by the way.

Metal Blade : we've made a huge mistake..
I had to email metalblade to let them know I find that the choices they've made to be quite distasteful. It's a shame, I like a lot of the artists on that label and have bought stuff from them directly as well as their bandcamp.

It's not like they're stealing the music. Metal Blade has nothing to do with and no interest in their name dispute, because they signed the musicians for their music. If they have to change their name, they're still signed to Metal Blade, and still wrote their current music. It's ridiculous to drag Metal Blade into this, unless they get involved with the legal case themselves. That has nothing to do with Metal Blade as a label.

This was an amazing thing to wake up to. I am so happy. Litourgiya became one of my favorite albums and I am so glad to hear its energy and life continue into this record unfiltered and unbastardized. Glory to the REAL Batushka!

Usually the second album is not as good as the first because you know what to expect.
But this album came really really close to the feeling I had the first time listening to litourgiya.

Such a perfect progression from the first album. This is exactly how a follow up record should sound like: Keeping true to the established sound while exploring different facets of it and delivering the same level of quality.
I really like the more varied vocal arrangements, it absolutely fits the the music and the concept. The composition is also more intense this time around, but without sacrificing the original atmosphere, which is quite an accomplishment.
The reason why I love Batushka is for sure He production, it’s the perfect sound for a band like this, especially with all this controversy happening, Metal Blade Batushka just doesn’t have it. At least from the single I’ve listened to
After listening to Hospodi i started to look for the 'other' Batushka, and WOW!!! THIS is just brilliant!! Although i enjoyed Hospodi I personally think this sound (for me) is the one we all know as Batushka. I was a fan and fell in love with your style when i saw you play in Bristol Thekla in 2018.
