Kenyon was a damn good player , the type of dude you wanted in the trenches with you
No question
Not to mention, Kenyon used to have a major stuttering problem. To hear him speak now shows how hard this dude works at everything he does.

Duncan jumps once, twice, three times, four times defending the basket.
While other defenders his height can only jump once or twice.
Duncan was extremely fit and athletic in his defense. He can move in many directions so quickly.
He was a good passer too.
Are you seriously trying to say Duncan was athletic? He was a decent player, definitely not athletic relative to NBA players.

Tim Duncan hands down the most underrated athlete not just basketball player but athlete to ever exist.
He's not underrated.. plus not a good athlete..unathletic as hell..
Tim is only underrated as a ball player by non NBA fans. Any fan that actually followed the league back then knows that Tim was a silent assassin. He didn't talk trash. He wasn't a loud guy. He just got shit done on both sides of the court and won championships.
@@airkuna I take it you're a Clippers fan in the early 2000 😂 So many athletic beasts in the NBA who never had the brains, the IQ, the production and the accolade of Tim Duncan. Sports is about efficiency and output, athleticism can win you a slam dunk contest but it won't get you 5 championships and multiple MVPs.
The way he described that match up is what makes the game special and also what's missing in todays brand of basketball. Being a great athlete is different than being a great basketball player and Tim was a great player. When the game is played at that level it's fun to play like Kenyon said but it's fun to watch.

Adored Kenyon insight. Really respected his opinion cause he has battled both players. And at one point he was one best defensive players in the league.
Kenyon also knew u could out muscle kg and force him into settling for long jumpers. TD was about 30-40 pounds heavier than kg and could not only take the physicality and had more in his bag than kg. Kenyon was one if the very rare players that could literally guard 1-5 at a high level. 1 of the most versatile defenders ever

Kenyon could guard 5-3 guards would make him look silly
@@Trillbandok at least 30 lbs if not 40 lbs, when Tim first came in league, they said he was a solid 260. KG, came in at 217, but that was out of high school as we know. They listed him at 240 later on though, but like him being taller than 6-11, he was probably less than 240.
Out muscling kg would backfire. First, he's athletic so he could counter it easily like Hakeem did with Shaq. Second, Garnett was strong. There's a reason he played pf and Center when he came of age. I doubt Kenyon Mart is beating KG in an arm wrestling match.

As a Jersey native I have to salute Jason Kidd and Kenyon Martin for reaching those 2 finals with The Nets. I'm actually still pissed off at Byron Scott. The first finals against the Lakers the Nets had no chance, especially with Jason Collins guarding Shaq in the post. But the Nets could've beat the Spurs. The Nets had Dikembe Mutombo on the team, but Byron Scott had a personal issue with him and hardly played him.
So instead of putting 7'1 Mutombo who was a known shot blocker and very clumsy on Tim Duncan and keeping him on Duncan until Mutombo fouled out, Byron Scott had Kenyon and 6'9 Aaron Williams guarding Duncan. Duncan was abusing Aaron Williams in the post and Scott still refused to put Mutombo on him. That was one of the most boneheaded coaching decisions that I've ever seen. It also didn't help that Richard Jefferson was ice cold on many important possessions. Salute to Jason Kidd though. That Nets fast break from those 2 finals years was must see tv.
Wow they had Mutombo during thst finals? I don't remember him ever being on that Kidd nets team. He wouldve been perfect to put on Tim. Averys a buffoon for that one.
Byron scott is a laker. New jersey should have declared him as a traitor

KG, like Pippen, is probably a top-25 all-time player thanks to his elite defense and versatility. But like Pippen, he wasn't an elite scorer and needed the help of one to win a title.
Also, while Duncan got a lot of help during some of his championship runs, he flat-out carried the '03 Spurs to a title. The Admiral was well past his prime at that point, and TP and Manu hadn't yet reached their primes.

I like this comment section. Y’all making me reminisce about the B-Ball Titans. If they’re in the convo, then they really meant something to us.
I don't think this is controversial at all. Of course Martin is speaking from personal experience, and Garnett was never an elite #1 option on offense in the playoffs like Duncan was. Even though his stats were less gaudy, Garnett's peak was in Boston when he could be the #2 or #3 offensive option and contribute through his defense, etc. Garnett is a no-brainer as a HOF, but Duncan was truly dominant on both ends for multiple championship teams.
