As a Jersey native I have to salute Jason Kidd and Kenyon Martin for reaching those 2 finals with The Nets. I'm actually still pissed off at Byron Scott. The first finals against the Lakers the Nets had no chance, especially with Jason Collins guarding Shaq in the post. But the Nets could've beat the Spurs. The Nets had Dikembe Mutombo on the team, but Byron Scott had a personal issue with him and hardly played him.
So instead of putting 7'1 Mutombo who was a known shot blocker and very clumsy on Tim Duncan and keeping him on Duncan until Mutombo fouled out, Byron Scott had Kenyon and 6'9 Aaron Williams guarding Duncan. Duncan was abusing Aaron Williams in the post and Scott still refused to put Mutombo on him. That was one of the most boneheaded coaching decisions that I've ever seen. It also didn't help that Richard Jefferson was ice cold on many important possessions. Salute to Jason Kidd though. That Nets fast break from those 2 finals years was must see tv.

I don't think this is controversial at all. Of course Martin is speaking from personal experience, and Garnett was never an elite #1 option on offense in the playoffs like Duncan was. Even though his stats were less gaudy, Garnett's peak was in Boston when he could be the #2 or #3 offensive option and contribute through his defense, etc. Garnett is a no-brainer as a HOF, but Duncan was truly dominant on both ends for multiple championship teams.

Watch "Thinking basketball Kevin Garnett" on UA-cam, his greatest peak was with the Wolves, a great video to get insight on.
