I have a grand daughter who would love your kitchen. She is slowly buying turquoise kitchen items. Of course, her family is buying her turquoise things for gifts too.
I use our citrus peels to make a citrus vinegar that is great for cleaning and smells better than plain vinegar. The oils are a good grease cutter to use in the kitchen for cleaning. I also clean mirrors or the bathroom sink and counters.
I always make my own brown sugar. Just put molasses and white sugar in food processor. It is better because you know your own ingredients. I put it in a mason jar stores really well.
I make my own powdered sugar by putting white sugar in a blender. Takes 5 seconds! It's a real handy tip when you run out of powdered sugar in the middle of baking.
I get so many good ideas by watching your no food waste videos! Emmy, you should have been a home economics instructor. Your step by step directions make cooking look so easy, and the new generation could learn a lot from you about cooking, finances, gardening, etc.
I don't buy brown sugar any more. I use 1.5 teaspoons of molasses (more or less) in 1 cup white granulated sugar to use in my recipes. One less thing to buy and no brown bricks of hard sugar to find in the back of my cupboard. I also make my own pancake syrup using that same brown sugar and a bit of vanilla flavoring. I found that recipe in my Fanny Farmer Boston Cooking School cookbook I received as a wedding present in 1968. So happy to have found your channel!
You could also make apple chips with the peels. Toss them with a little oil and bake them until crispy but not burned. When you take them out sprinkle them with cinnamon sugar while they are still hot. Very yummy
I made brickle for my neighbors . And one of them wanted the recipe, I told her to go on you tube and watch her video because she explains it so well. And she loved the M&Ms i put on it. Thanks again.
Your positivity is so needed! Thank you! I went thought my fridge for dinner and used up a half tomato I had leftover and stored items in the freezer to avoid spoilage. I felt good tonight.
I love watching you guys especially with the recipes. You always make me so hungry and you are both my heroes as I am 65 still working but waiting to retire one of these days soon. Love what you guys do keep up the great job!
Here is a tip for you that is very frugal and great for substitutes.....3 Tbsp aquafaba, which is the liquid that is left in the can chickpeas, can be substituted for one egg in baking. Works like a charm! So if you're ever out of eggs or you need to save your eggs for something else you can use this. And I always make roasted chickpeas so I always have some aquafaba laying around. Now this is definitely something that I used to throw out that I now save! I'm going to start saving my orange peels because this looks amazing. Also, love live love theses "use it up" videos. That's half the battle....if we can just find a way to use all the food we buy we are saving money, and being better stewards of the groceries we buy. I hate throwing away food thatch purchased. It's so wasteful and I feel bad when I do it. Especially meat....because if an animal dies so we can eat I like to make SURE I've not made it due in vain. I raise my chickens so a lot of time and money goes into getting that chicken to the table, plus butchering costs....I have a couple come process my chickens.....so I make sure to have zero waste. So my meat is quite expensive but I love the product, I'm positive they lived a great life, were treated wonderful, ate great food, and don't have hormones and antibiotics pumped into them.
We have a woodstove. When I eat an orange, I take off the peel thinly and dry those stripes beside the fire. It takes only two hours. Then I put them in old, cleaned out jam jars until I need them. I use the peel to give a special taste to milk, puddings, tea and so on.
I clean my refrigerator out every week before I go grocery shopping. I pull out anything that is getting old. I put a basket on my counter and put out of my cupboards anything that is getting close to expiring.
I was so happy that you were able to do 3 videos this week. Your you tube channel is my favorite hands down! Such great content! You guys are a true blessing.
I made the “fried” apples on Sunday. I was already planning to have a pork roast, and decided to make them instead of just popping open a couple containers of applesauce. They were so delicious! Frank tried them before eating anything else, and the next thing I knew, they were gone, and he hadn’t even had a bite of his roast! So of course he took more! You’re right, they were super easy! Thanks, and take care.
I loved this zero waste video. I think the crock pot apples would be delicious as a topping on vanilla yogurt, waffles or pancakes. Stay safe during this snow season.
When we cook, whatever we dont eat that meal is put into tupperwares and into freezer.it cuts food waste.also, frugal tip.the plastic containers, like for sour cream, butter, etc.wash out once product inside is used up.instant tupperware
I never thought of putting cheese on the outside of the grill cheese too! Thanks for the tip. The ideas are endless too with tomato, and leftover ham or bacon. My Dad would like to dunk it in some tomato soup too!
One of my best investments to date I think has been our panini maker. I can take any leftover bread cheese and a lot of other ingredients and make them into toasties - like you, no bread and cheese goes wasted in our house, they all go into the panini maker ^_^
I love your zero food waste videos! I am so excited about the apple recipe and am going to make it for Christmas. Such a coincidence you did this recipe! Last week we ordered a crazy expensive ham from The Honey Baked Ham Co. We have never ordered one before and wanted to treat ourselves. My husband was watching over my shoulder while I ordered and I made the mistake of looking at the side dishes. He really wanted their cinnamon apples but there was no way we were paying $25 for 3 lbs of cooked apples LOL. I still can’t believe what we paid for the ham! I can’t wait to surprise him with this! Thanks Emmy!!
Emmy, the next time you make "fried" apples in the crockpot, stick a couple of thick cut pork chops in with them. The pork absorbs much of the flavor and will be super tender!
I'll be definitely trying the candied orange peals. I do the apples all the time, put into canning jars and freeze. Also mix peaches or pineapple with it. Soon good 😊
I am new to your channel, I just love it. I was wondering if you could do a video for us stay at home moms on how you go about your days, without online shopping. As a stay at home mom, my boys are all adults so it’s not like I’m taking care of them anymore. So when I’m home bored I tend to online shop. 🤦🏼♀️I’m trying very hard to break this ridiculous habit. If you could please shed some light on this topic. Oh I would gratefully appreciate it.
K Mars so happy you found our channel! I have a video on "Wants versus Needs" that you might find interesting about impulse buying. I will link it here ua-cam.com/video/-A4bM8tnyAI/v-deo.html. Not sure if this is what you're referring to. If not let me know! Thanks for watching!
Emmy you are so clever - the orange peel recipe - genius -I had no idea and will think twice when I’m about to throw away an orange peel - it’ll go in the freezer ! Love the grown up grilled cheese - your channel is one of my favorites
Hi emmy and Paul Thank you for those recipes I try and not waste any food I even use broccoli stalks for putting in soups just freeze them and pull out of the freezer when I need them Take care both of you xx🎁🎁🎁🎁
I make a similar grilled cheese sandwich. I lightly butter the bread and put grated cheese into the dry pan and place one slice of buttered bread onto it. I build the grilled cheese sandwich as you did, as it cooks. When I use a bread end (heel), I turn it to the inside, so both outside pieces can get crispy. I use a cast iron pan. Yum!
Merry Christmas to You all. Last night i made your Brickle it came out great. Some people also call brickle Christmas Crack. I like the tip of using just a stick and a half of butter. Instead of two sticks that would be way to much. Thank you for that tip! And i put red and green M&Ms on it yummy! Again Merry Christmas!
You can also zest and dry the peels for recipes. I just lay them out on a cookie sheet and let them dry for a few days. Super easy. You can add them to cakes, cookies, stews, etc.
I have had these, but made with grapefruit skins instead; they were also very delicious too. Waste not, want not. Thank you for sharing, I enjoy your channel.
Those recipes look amazing! They definitely encourage me to be more creative. I tend to get in cooking ruts e ery so often. Your ideas are so helpful! Godbless you and Paul and have a wonderful Christmas!
These are great ideas! Through the winter months, I bake pumpkins whole after washing them well. After allowing them to cool enough to handle, I tear off the tops and scoop out the seeds so that I can then peel out the pumpkin flesh and put it aside for pies, pumpkin soup, et cetera. Then I boil the baked skins/seeds for soup stock in water to cover about 2 inches and add a bay leaf if I have one. I do the same thing with hard squash. I'm not interested in roasting the seeds raw, and I find pumpkins and hard squash difficult to cup up raw. This stock is really good; it freezes well; and I sub it out for chicken stock all the time. This is another good way to put food to good use that would otherwise be discarded. Happy Holidays!
Whaaaaaat! there he is, boooooom! that was perfect, thank you so much. the grill cheese looks delish and the Paul taste testing was awesome. Paul kinda reminds me of Paul Sr. on orange county choppers. Cheers guys!

I use our citrus peels to make a citrus vinegar that is great for cleaning and smells better than plain vinegar. The oils are a good grease cutter to use in the kitchen for cleaning. I also clean mirrors or the bathroom sink and counters.
Yes, I make the orange vinegar cleaner too. I made a clip of it in one of my frugal hacks video!
