My friend's ,grandmother was prescribed a lot of hormones during menopause and got breast cancer in the 1970's. So my girlfriend who has a degree in Food Science & Human Nutrition, decided she would take only soy products during menopause. She did a deep dive in Japanese studies using soy during menopause in the 1990's. Glad to see America, has finally wised up! 😁
I ate tofu for a week & started getting breast milk. I stopped right away as breast cancer runs in my family. I think every human is different and we should not trust 100% these studies.
I eat Tempe each day and survived stage 4 breast cancer . However I have to add that I suspect flaxseeds are estrogenic and I’m still having hormonal imbalance and it’s causing fibroid cysts. I have no evidence of disease and it’s 12 years now so so I does not cause cancer !
Dr. Moss shares information based on scientific research that helps many people to manage their health better! Thanks for your generosity with your time and expertise, Dr. Moss! Thanks also to Ben for conducting excellent interviews with his Dad!
No one in my family had breast cancer & I do not have a gene for breast cancer. After 2 years of eating Edamame, I got ER/PR+ breast cancer! 90% of soy, corn & canola grown in the US is GMO. You can not compare American women eating an American diet, to women in China eating a Chinese diet. Even though women in China are not as affected by soy as American women, you need to take into account that women in China & Japan eat have a high daily intake of iodine which kills cancer. Americans have a very low daily intake of iodine.
So you ate the edamame for two years and then were diagnosed with breast cancer. This does not prove that your cancer was caused by your edamame eating. This is known as correlation, when two things happened close in time to each other. It does not prove that one of those things caused the other. As well, some experts believe that cancer has grown in one's body for 5 years before it can be detected. Did you listen to the podcast? Population studies indicate that soy does not cause breast cancer and is in fact protective.
Dr. Neal Barnard, in his book, Your Body in Balance, recommends that women eat 1/2 cup cooked soybeans daily--not edamame (which is made from juvenile soybeans, so they may not have all the beneficial phytoestrogens that mature soybeans contain). He thinks edamame is fine for snacking, but for his purposes of balancing your hormones, they're not sufficient.
I can tell you soy definitely affected my hormones in a very big way! About 10 years ago when I was 55 and post menopausal (menopause for me was at 50). I started eating soy on a daily basis and after several weeks, my breasts got swollen and I was having all the same symptoms I used to get a week before my monthly periods. I stopped the soy and those symptoms went away. I do not believe that a food substance that has such a huge impact on my hormones is a good, healthy thing. Perhaps consuming soy products once in a while - every couple of weeks would be fine, but certainly NOT on a daily basis for certain people. Everyone is different, but eater, beware. ;)
I had a mastectomy 3yrs ago & was prescribed an estrogen blocker LETROZOLE for 5 yrs . I got the impression that my cancer Re cause by too much soy product consumption . I drink soy milk everyday & have tofu & endamame so often .
Are these case studies based on fermented soy products? Soybean oil (unfermented) is now used in many food products across the board in the US. Listed either first in ingredients on label or at least the 1st five ingredients. Also, it has been warned that little boys are at risk for hormones being ingested with soy intake. Soy is used in many foods as a stabilizer including chocolate candy, dark, too! Commercially baked desserts also .
I think the problem with soy is if it is gmo or full of pesticides .& Another important factor to take note of is the way soy milk & tofu & other soy products are prepared these days. That is very likely the problem otherwise i believe soy is good especially considering that it has been consumed in the Japanese & Chinese diets for many yrs withiut issue.
Good article. Another benefit of tofu/tempeh is that it is a fermented food product with all the associated benefits to the gut biome and immune system.
Hmmm…..I’ve wondered about this issue for decades, because that’s how long the difference of opinion on soy has existed. Lately I heard a researcher say that fermented soy is fine, but unfermented soy is not. But, if your microbiome is very good, you can handle even the unfermented soy. Since estrogen is such an integral part of so many cancers, I’m not taking any chances.
@@i.ehrenfest349 no, it just goes to show that you do not understand how proper research is conducted, what a double-blind trial is and what peer-reviewed constitutes. We are not talking about "opinions" here, but research backed facts. and the "experts" you talk about are totally self-proclaimed.
I have recently had breast cancer surgery and my cancer is Estrogen positive. Looking at the comments, I am still inclined to avoid soy in future (I have eaten it regularly in the past). There are other foods that are supposedly good for cancer, and uncontroversial, like cruciferous vegetables, chick peas, garlic, leeks, & spring onions. I will stick with them. Why would I risk it?
The problem is not the soy, but the DNA modification. Plants are nature adapted to living beings, then humans modify DNA to increase production and make more money.
Cancer takes a long time to reach exponential growth, the cancer could have started to grow when you were consuming cow's milk (which can be full of animal estrogen from pregnant cow) but cancer was only detected when you switched to soy milk? Drink organic soy milk?
@@robertsmart5600Hi. I was on soya milk 4 years. vegan being here… i eat 1/4 block tofu first- eating hack- to get protein first before carbs- keeps blood sugar from spiking… tastes great to me- love the texture. great dipping like a chip or cherry tomato. make my own as well. was also denying myself due to fear mongering from years back but intuition said different. 2.5g carbs 15-20 g protein in the tofu i use brilliant work together =^..^=
I had a hystorectomywhen I was 40 because I had massive fibroids in my uterus and some were submucous which means I was bleeding to death. I was eating a lot of tofu at the time.
You may very well be correct on this point, although unless there are specific scientific studies that we can point to about the dangers of GMO, I don’t think we can tell our audience with great certainty that this is the case.
@@TheMossReport Hi from Belgium. Thanks for all your interesting video. lack of iodine, which is present in most of us westerners, broadly speaking, is a factor in the etiology of breast cancer
