I LOVE THIS UA-cam CHANNEL! HE REMINDS ME OF BOBBY DAN DAVIS BLOCKER WHO PLAYED HOSS CARTWRIGHT ON BONANZA FROM 1959 TO 1972. After Dan Blocker's passing on May 13th, of 1972 due to medical complications (Pulmonary Embolism) Bonanza lasted only one final season without the shows longstanding, and favored cast member Hoss Cartwright. The 14th and final season ended on January 16, of 1973.
When I worked for Cummins this is a common problem on engines that have removable cylinder liners. Improper coolant resulted in cavitation bubbles forming on the backside of the liner and eventually piercing through all the way through the liner with micro pinholes.
I was the new guy at one point and time. So I was layin under a class 8 truck with a cat with the pan off, trying to find a similar leak. So the guy caps the rad and starts pumping...glad I could move quick, but I still got a bunch on my face. Darn thing spooged me 😂 Turned out it was a little pinhole in a liner from cavitation.
Just had this exact thing happen to me on my late 99. 7.3 ran like a top until about a month ago when it hydro locked on me. Lesson learned, run anti cavitation additive in your coolant!
That is crazy, I haven't seen this happen before. When you said it was leaking from the cylinder, I was expecting to see some kind of stress crack in it from abuse, like those "oil leak" 6 liters. Not some little pin hole.
I know of another truck that did the same thing neighbor farmer to us he bought the truck and drove it for about a month and then it started losing water into the oil they though front cover like you but it was a pin hole in the cylinder shop said to use nitrate test kits from napa on water at every oil change and napa's also sells an additive I think its call Napacool he had less then 150000 miles on it.2000 F350 4X4
Hi i just bought and 03 ford f350 4wd with 6.0 at idle it has a shutter till you touch the gas peddle i mean just touch it it sometimes with fix its self sometimes it wont im not to sure i was told by the old owner it has just a dirty injector and when its cold every morning has no power try to take off good luck does have egr delete kit 4 inch strait pipe this thing wont even spine tires unless in the dirt i dont care to spine tire but just trying to give you all the info i see you know about these trucks at thro cash at i just did oil and filters to bottom filter was pretty dirty and top oone was clean i think they just changed the top..thanks for your time.
Bill, thanks for posting *something* on the 7.3. Seems almost everything that can go cattywampus has been seen many times over for years (except coolant in oil). However, sometimes us 7.3 owners need affirmation on how good we have it and how badass this engine really is despite having approx half hp and torque of the new 6.7s. As I posted on the last video you published, the 7.3 almost has the potential to become the new classic as the muscle cars of the 60's are today. If they aren't worn out or monkeyed up by kids modding them horrendously then they are highly sought after and highly priced by people who know how reliable the 7.3 is. I've seen extremely low-mileage 99-03s that had an asking price nearly what it was brand new back then. Always look forward to new videos. Thanks!
Blessings Mr Bill from Kissimmee FL I have always wondered where can I have a 7.3 powerstroke re sleeved? I know it would probably be easier to just swap blocks however it is for a high performance build and the bore Size I need is a bit unconventional so I rather re sleeve and save on my Stock pile of race pistons that Ive got for my racing program. I have called around my local area here in Central Florida and no one does re sleeves so if it means I need to go to GA I dont mind since Ill probably do 3 or 4 blocks at once since we have 2 race trucks and both have spares
2002 7.3 excursion question. what would make my engine quit occasionally while driving slowly or stopping at a stop sign? It will usually crank and drive normally after this. It will also stutter at normal highway speeds not always just sometimes.
This is a strange question, but, is that a 1" rubber cap that is being used to seal off the coolest system? I watch your channel because I am converting a school bus into an RV. It has a 7.3L and you have been a great source of info, thank you for that! My problem is the heating system using 1" hose, which I can find around town, BUT the heater core uses two 1" bypass caps that I cannot find anywhere. Do you know where I can get two 1" bypass cap?
the jasper rep says they have to scope the blocks on 7.3s looking for electrolisis wich causes that very problem from what he said. I think he said wrong coolant was the cause.
Hey y'all different subject but my 2000 Powerstroke recently started showing blowby and I was told by two different mechanics that it's normal there's not even enough pressure to blow a kleenex off the filler tube if anyone any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated the engine has 212k on it thank you for your time
thank again for sharing Bill always looking forward to new uploads regardless of its in reference to a 7.3, 6.0, 6.4, or even 6.7. guess I have the powerstroke bug lol. You can mark my words when my 06 F250 Harley Davidson Edition is ready I will be bringing my truck to your shop I'm in South Florida but I don't care. I do have a question maybe someone can answer my truck is stock except for a K&N air filter. If I install a larger exhaust such as a turbo back or cat back type system can I leave it like that or do I need to tune? my thought is easier and more air in and easier and more exhaust out without tuning.
6.0 trucks do not have complex regeneration systems therefore you can cut off the cat and run a 4 or 5 in exhaust out the back. I recommend running a muffler.
I'm looking at buying a Lifted 99-03 7.3, Any tips on looking at lifted truck? Just the same as looking at any other used Diesel trucks? Or is there anything I need to look for
Where are you located? I have a 2000 IDI T444E 7.3L engine and it's slowly eating up coolant and has lack of power and white smoke is coming out the exhaust.
2000 is a DI powerstroke engine not IDI but it sounds like a bad head gasket that's what happened on my 1987 6.9 IDI after the turbo lifted the rear of the head (aftermarket turbo on the IDI)
Question about ether. My S1900 forestry truck has an ether start button on the dash for faster start ups i never use it. Why would the factory put that on if ether can wreck engines. Motor is Cat 3208.
Older deisel engine that is more robustly built than a 7.3 powerstroke. A little bit of ether is fine but a lot of ether is bad its all about he amount you dump into the intake.
Mr. Hewitt, I have a 2000 F250 7.3 RWD with 50,000 original miles. One owner before me that I have known for 20 yrs. Just trying to say that I know/trust this man and everything has been maintained meticulously. What can I do to make sure that it lasts forever? This is my first diesel and I want to do it right. Please let me know. Thank you!
Bills shop installed the Edge Evolution on my 7.3. Its is a conservative choice but good. It has three settings- Tow safe, race, and extreme. I get really decent fuel economy with the tow safe mode. Extreme mode is fun. Its certainly not a race car but it moves pretty well for a 9000lb brick. He also mentions KEM tuner as a good choice, and DP as well. Just dont do off road tuning. You will end up killing your engine and spending big dollars on repairs.
no, especially the 1997 and up. I read just yesterday in the powerstroke coffee table books that some time in 1996 they thickened the engine block on the 7.3 to reduce harmonics/noise ,and as a result the blocks are not as prone to cylinder cavitation. Same problem happened with the 7.3 idi, it is basically a bored out 6.9, and the cylinders were made thinner because of the bore so the cylinder walls were more susceptible to cavitation.
Yeah I had a guy bring me a van to rebuild that had water in coolant and 3 big ol cracks in the block, one on the deck, 2 on the side one of them was between 2 freeze plugs, the moron had left straight water in it over winter and let it be ruined.
I LOVE THIS UA-cam CHANNEL!

Bill, Thanks for this channel and all the owner support you provide.
Took you the hell long enough bill, I love your videos, it's agony waiting in between uploads
Terrific analysis!
God damn you're amazing, Bill.

Had a Ford 4000 tractor do that same thing once. Took a while to find the exact problem. Ended up sleeving it.

Had the same thing happen to a international bucket truck.

I had that happen to my late 99 7.3 diesel, truck was blowing coolant out the exhaust bad, ended up swapping the motor with a used low mileage engine

Bill, I noticed the degas bottle on that engine is dirty. Is this normal with high miles? Mine looks the same.
the jasper rep says they have to scope the blocks on 7.3s looking for electrolisis wich causes that very problem from what he said. I think he said wrong coolant was the cause.
Off topic question i heard a guy say 4x4 7.3 F-350's are not as good for long heavy tow as the RWD7.3 F-350's are what is your personal opinion?
Hey y'all different subject but my 2000 Powerstroke recently started showing blowby and I was told by two different mechanics that it's normal there's not even enough pressure to blow a kleenex off the filler tube if anyone any thoughts or opinions would be appreciated the engine has 212k on it thank you for your time

frankbradshaw1770 so in all honesty I should just keep it stock?
Can't you bore these 7.3L's or can you only sleeve them?
I'm pretty sure my problem with coolant in the oil is from the front cover plate. No oil is circulating back into the radiator.
I'm looking at buying a Lifted 99-03 7.3, Any tips on looking at lifted truck? Just the same as looking at any other used Diesel trucks? Or is there anything I need to look for
check the ball joints and look all under the truck for rust or expensive issues
Where are you located? I have a 2000 IDI T444E 7.3L engine and it's slowly eating up coolant and has lack of power and white smoke is coming out the exhaust.
2000 is a DI powerstroke engine not IDI but it sounds like a bad head gasket that's what happened on my 1987 6.9 IDI after the turbo lifted the rear of the head (aftermarket turbo on the IDI)
Cleanup the the cylinder and do a magnaflux check you will find the pinhole....
Hi Bill I'm working on a 2001 7.3 it's putting oil in the coolant. It has a new oil cooler. What are the other failures points for this issue.
Did u figure it out I think my oil cooler failed no coolant in oil from what I see just oil in coolant
Question about ether. My S1900 forestry truck has an ether start button on the dash for faster start ups i never use it. Why would the factory put that on if ether can wreck engines. Motor is Cat 3208.
lots of ether can hurt a diesel engine depends on how much your dumping into the intake....
So why is it factory installed?
Older deisel engine that is more robustly built than a 7.3 powerstroke. A little bit of ether is fine but a lot of ether is bad its all about he amount you dump into the intake.
Where can I find a good 7.3 Powerstroke? I love those trucks and looking for one in good condition. :-)
I'm selling mine if your int
Joel V Can you tell me more about it? Miles, is it 4x4? Interior condition, etc...
Mr. Hewitt,
I have a 2000 F250 7.3 RWD with 50,000 original miles. One owner before me that I have known for 20 yrs. Just trying to say that I know/trust this man and everything has been maintained meticulously. Thank you!
That's what happens when you don't run sca's in your coolant, like a good dca-2 or dca-4
what is the best tuner for a 7.3?
Bills shop installed the Edge Evolution on my 7.3. Its is a conservative choice but good. It has three settings- Tow safe, race, and extreme. I get really decent fuel economy with the tow safe mode. That's no common for a 7.3 right?

well that's tits, on an idi is there any way to tell if it has cavitation issues?
I changed my injector o rings 6mons ago and now im getting oil in my fuelfilter again
Yeah I had a guy bring me a van to rebuild that had water in coolant and 3 big ol cracks in the block, one on the deck, 2 on the side one of them was between 2 freeze plugs, the moron had left straight water in it over winter and let it be ruined.
People think the 7.3 are the best motors they are pure trash, the new 6.7s are pure domination in every form of the word
Pos 7.3 man i hate those motors
