    I like the approach of the small table inside. Almost everyone eats outside the vast majority of the time so the inside table isn't used that much and by downsizing it they can fit a good nav station.

    Outside salon means less space to air condition. Utility area is a realistic need and appreciated. Forward nav with great visibility, bimini shade at helms. It lookes suited for Caribbean excursions. I see the value and positive attributes in the design. Just spotted the dingy davits, cool.

    Really nice boat. I don't mind the outward helms. There are advantages and disadvantages to every helm position. On world cruising you will use it manly for docking/anchoring or in some sort of emergencies. Meaning you will be on autopilot 99.9% of the time. But it definitely needs some sort of lineboxes. Just lock at that spaghetti mess on the cockpit floor! Major tripping hazard when manoeuvering and moving from one helm to the other!

    I very much like the darker richer wood finish. Much more romantically nautical than the Motel 6/Ikea blond wood of most cats. I really am impressed that this designer did not try to seat the entire British royal family around a salon banquet table in a 44 foot boat. Keep the guests in the cockpit where they belong. This layout also allows for a decent sized galley that can actually prepare a meal for more than two people. And, yea, rounded corners in the salon cabinetry.

    I am a monohull sailor and have seen many three story charted cats on the med and Agean with 400 friends aboard going slowly. Ok, they are having fun and can split the cost, good luck to them. If I ever had one i would need some increased performance over my monohull . I am sure that there are a lot of monohull sailors yet to be convinced that a cat is the way to go. My wife has told me for years that a motor yacht or cat is needed. Mind you, her predessor said the same thing. This just might be the kind of thing? Good video you obviously enjoyed your sail.

    Toby I love the long awaited review.. great job as always.. one question your true wind speed said 14 knots and you were sailing at 10 knots pretty much close hauled somewhere around 45-50 awa so how come the code zero was up in apparent wind speed must have been 20 or more knots ? Maybe true wind speed wasn’t correct in this video
    Feedback welcome seeing as you were there 👍👍

    Great review Toby,
    Mark Lombard designs some fantastic yachts,
    But before I spend 800k I need to see you out
    On the open ocean in a force 6 putting this one
    Through its paces, only then can we say we have
    A great cruising yacht…

    Great review Toby! Somewhat more affordable than the Outremer too, but I think I would miss the swivel steering, I'm not sure why more manufacturers don't do the same? Inboard, standing and outboard steering positions seem the best of all worlds? They're all getting better and better these cats.

    1:07 you can't argue with someone elses experience just because you have a preference sir. you mostly test boats in ideal conditions. when its pitch black , 1000 miles offshore, wind blowing ... you won't care for freezing water or the feel of the rudder. being covered makes practical, real world sense.

    The only thing I don't like about these is how small the indoor space is. I know together with the back deck open area it's a large space and you can sort of enclose it, but there is just something about it that feels too small.

    I just wonder how competitive the boat is when you outfit it the way this model is with a price tag north of 800k. There are several semi custom cats in that price range that give you significantly more performance with only a marginal hit on living accommodations and cold storage units.

    You can not argue against the fact, that open helm positions are, what the name suggest: Open to view, yes, but also to the elements in bad weather. Great maybe, for a recreational sailor. Unlivable for a cruiser sailing full time onboard a catamaran, who also eventually will be caught out in nasty weather and rough seas. No, it is not the catamaran of the year, which have to go to Windelo 54, and that one fantastically cost about the same as this smallish catamaran, with lots of solar and an advanced electric suit, including electric engines with hydro generation. The Windelo may even out sail this one too.

  • @martigrey5872
    @martigrey5872 Рік тому +1

    So why does no one just build aft cabins across the boat and put the helm on there. You sit a bit higher behind the salon and just walk down in it. You also feee up more space in the hull. It is protected, higher but not as high as a fly. You also can add a hardtop for solar

    • @Mars21681
      @Mars21681 Рік тому +1

      in trying to envision your suggestion, I can't help but think of how little the mail sail could move out ... unless you went like the lagoons with very poorly designed high position main sail... you want your main sail as low as possible to provide the power and catch of the light winds, center of gravity, etc. you want that power going into the boat.

  • @bobbob6472

    Only thing I would change is on the owners side, is to have the door to the shower open from the other side, so you do not have to step around it, getting in and out. As most of the time you would be coming from the bedroom cabin

    • @Mars21681
      @Mars21681 Рік тому

      remove those catching handles and put sliding doors on both for the walk way... the narrow walk ways are an advantage but there are details as such that should be considered.

    I think one thing that gets overlooked on comments on these is that being outside in the wind and weather is why you sail these boats. But still - you don't sail one of these through the Bearing Sea chasing one of the fishing boats on Deadliest Catch. If you watch Erik Aanderaa's channel he's in an open cockpit Contessa Sailboat going to Greenland. Yea he's out in force 9 seas in his foulies have a grand old time. It's like Ice Fishing or winter camping. If you don't get it - you won't get it. Me - I don't get it. Give me a Nordhavn with a nice heated pilot house - Or even better a nice couch with a Nordhavn on TV. It's a very modern design. That is what Marc Lombard does. You don't ask for a Morgan by Tesla. They have their own vibes. Me I'm a Morgan guy. But - not in NYC.
    This also isn't a top line Lux cat like a 60 foot Sunreef. It doesn't cost like that either. I would like it if Toby would review American Sailboats like Catalinas. We do make Sailboats here you know.
    This isn't what I would want if price was no option - but I'd be thrilled if someone gave me one. I won't sail this through the Great Lakes in February. I'd Snowbird it to Florida and the Keys and and find out if all Pina Colada's taste the same.

    • @angela1984a
      @angela1984a Рік тому

      And what kind of Sailing performance can you get out of a Sunreef? Aren't those basically bricks? I also wonder what the CO2 emissions are from the gensets on the Sunreefs... I'm betting a Rapido 60 or one of the on-off trimarans close in size to the Rapido 60 is a A LOT more fun to sail compared with a Sunreef 60... I'm also betting a Rapido 60 can sail in a A LOT lighter winds than a Sunreef 60... In those kind of conditions the Sunreef would just be bobbing around or have to motor instead - and spewing even more CO2... Yeah, nah... I would NOT want a Sunreef!

    Exposed helms are only of any sense in fine weather, day sailing. Do it in the rain, in the cold and wind, in realistic offshore seas and you have to be dressed like a mono-sailor, and will feel somewhat miserable, exposed and weather-beaten after an hour! The main problem with most of these (nonetheless useful) reviews is they are nearly all in flat water, which is just not realistic when or if trying to see the true colours of a vessel. Anyone who is not an armchair yachtie knows this significant fact/ deficiency. PS stop quoting ex VAT!
