    I just made an appointment with my local plastic surgeon to have 2 more fingers implanted on my fretting hand and an extra pinky on my picking hand. I figure after I heal from that........and a practice regimen of 12 hours per day for 13 years, I should be comfortable jamming with these two.

      +Rolax I was hanging with them for a decent chunk of time so I caught most of their performances. More than likely you were next to me haha. From what I know they played over the same two tracks each time so if that's the case I do have the other tune. Just didn't upload it yet as I had my own vids to put up. It'll be up soon enough though. Thanks for letting me know you were there!

    I really like both Martin Miller and Tom Quayle and their playing - great phrasing and shredding too! However, I am getting a tad sick of the whole backing track thing that seems to be popular now. I keep seeing so many guitarists all jamming over boring, directionless fusion backing tracks. The improv coming out of this is awesome, but I hope to see more of these great musicians get equally excited about composition and music for different kinds of bands and ensembles. I don't mean to nitpick, but I'd love to see the same guitar virtuosity expanded to other realms.

      These guys do more than just noodle...They both have albums out there and they're both fine players, but make no mistake, this is noodling of the first order! Quayle looks bored as he's blowin' thru them chromatics! ; )

    • @jackzango427
      @jackzango427 8 років тому +1

      ...and I agree that the idea of backing tracks seems a bit disrespectful to all the great rhythm sections out there!

    • @MartinMillerGuitar
      @MartinMillerGuitar 7 років тому +12

      I get see this type of comment popping up here and there all the time... ironically it's the people that complain about the "backing track" culture that don't seem to bother researching the fact, that I released a solo album, live session recordings with full bands, plenty of bootleg footage of club gigs, etc. etc.
      No offense taken of course, it's not our fault if people take more note of when we do the "backing track thing" as opposed to when we do the "actual music thing".

      Pablo and Mike- TM1730 because 3 pickups and no "M". The M is used to designate maple fingerboard. The 330 is the equivalent model in the standard line made in Korea I believe. The 1700 series are the prestige line made in Japan. So interesting to see him shredding a Talman. His website shows him currently playing Ibanez shred machines only now.

    • @chrisbedwardmusic
      @chrisbedwardmusic  8 років тому +4

      +cazzie bb Can't say I agree with you but to each their own. Everyone expresses themselves differently and many enjoy the fluidity that Tom achieves. If that's not your thing, completely fair, but to reduce it to in essence "running through scales" is a bit much.

    • @cazziebb1707
      @cazziebb1707 8 років тому +1

      +Chris Bedward I don't think it's a bit much. I don't hear any phrasing and/or emotion, kind of like his speaking voice - monotone. It just sounds like he's trying to out-do Martin, to no avail.

    • @chrisbedwardmusic
      @chrisbedwardmusic  8 років тому +7

      +cazzie bb That's what I'm getting at. You're speaking your opinion like it's fact and projecting a scenario that wasn't the case. He was phrasing quite a bit, maybe not in a way you're used to but it's reminiscent of a horn and even keys player in a jazz/fusion context. Maybe it's not guitar oriented enough for you, which again is fair. The part about emotion I definitely am not with you on. Myself and many others could feel the excitement in both their playing. To say he was trying to compete with Martin IS too much. I was there for almost every jam they did. It was all laughs and enjoyment of each other. If you still feel that it's just scales, well I can't change your mind. You like what you like, but just take into consideration that because something is not your thing doesn't mean there's no emotion or phrasing or a lack of skill set.

      Personally I am just over the mute-mute-squeal-mute-squeal-mute-squeal+ overdone-vibrato approach. Sooo early 90s. It's wants to be hip-chunky-funky, but it's usually just gimmicky.
