from my point of view.. this is a demonstration. foam is biodegradable. and as a firefighter point of view, this is great to quickly control an complete fire egressed structure, fire still continues afterward because its lodged where is cannot be reached from the outside attack, but it makes is safer to mop up spot fires afterward.
I was surprised to find that even after applying 15,000 gallons of foam suppressant, the fire continued. Maybe had they been better positioned in a triangle config, they probably could've done something. Regardless of result or the lack there of, I still enjoy watching these crash units doing their thing. The advantage of using these rigs is immediate use (no setup), and mobility. Can't do either of those things with a city pumper.
well...almost two lanes, they are a bit wide. Plus the height, you have to know your routes and be within the height requirements away from your station.
If they combined these trucks with one of those claw trucks they use in the eastern parts of the world (to shred buildings) on a residential structure fire like this, it would be a huge force to be reckoned with (and it would just be "fricken sweet").
Wish normal fire depts could get water on the fire as fast on pull up. point and shoot versus small line run (2 minutes of water) while 5 inch run to hydrant. 3 trucks put out a house fire with no ladders ff with danger risk, etc.
That is precisely what Every department should do at every fire where you can see the burning material. 95% don't do this. DECK GUN! Use It! However, this was absolutely ridiculous in it's Volume. You only apply enough to eliminate the flames. Then you go inside to mop up.
Who cares how much is used, very minimal risk to fire fighters. Only real issue is the drowning of any possible survivors which is the fear everytime we roll on a crash. 99% of the time we use the lob on method, short bursts of the bumper and usually does the job. We had a 4 person fatality and used the lob on method, med examiner said there was no fluid in the lungs which gave the operator a sigh of relief he didnt drown them.
I don't think that's quite right as foam takes the oxygen away from the fire while water mainly just cools down whatever is burning so surely foam will do the same to a unconscious victim.
one rig with a snorkle would have been a great help. with slightly better positioning it looks like they could of totally knocked it down 3rd in truck the bad stick in the beginning. now we need video of water bombers doing this.
Good for a quick knockdown. If the ARFF rigs could have driven to the other side I think they could have had a total knock down. As with any war though, you have to put boots on the ground to win. Gotta get firefighters inside to get to the seat of the fire. --LAFD LAX ARFF Firefighter
Three ARFFs not able to put out a multi-unit? Hardly. Bad positioning + poor attack technique = inefficient knock down. Also - is it the driver's first day? Lead foot.
Logic would tell you that to put out a fire you would need to move around ALL of the fire - the fire won't turn around for the firefighter. That's what logic would tell me anyway
The part where the trucks get hit with the foam would look awesome to have screen shots made and then slap a brazzers logo on it. But very nice job. :D
An ineffective application of water? You have got to be kidding me. I can think of quite a few reasons why crash trucks were perfect for this fire (if this situation were to arise). You must obviously know that petroleum based products and water repel each other. So the answer is foam, most structural apparatus carry zero to 30 gallons of foam. Once you blow through that you must resort to using a foam educator or calling for more units. ***see next comment*
I'm thinkin Detroit FD could use a few of these on hell night!
its foam, it helps put out the fire, its basically dish soap, water, and airation to make it, it sticks to stuff and cools it
That's how you fight a fire!!!!!!!!
Whoever is working 655 truck is the FF of the year. Great work, fast and accurate. Nice.
Putting that fire out with out even having to get out of the truck. AWESOME!! Oshkosh trucks are kick ass!!
Do you want drown a fire? Because this is how you drown a fire!
@EatMyPropwash do they have to clean all that extra up or does it just evaporate
There are no words to describe how amazing this video is... =D
2:22 don't cross the streams, don't cross the streams, DON'T CROSS THE STREAMS!!!!!!

ummm. the foam really isn't going to suffocate anyone, any more than water will

I don't think i've ever seen a fire put out so fast lol
Hell, just put 5 of these on every department and cut firefighting time way down, lol

"655 to 657, hey probie wanna hit the fire and not my truck? Your washing this shit off after we get back!"
Screw box alarms, tower trucks, and the like. If I'm making an external attack, I want one of these.
WTF? I'm pretty sure I was wearing pants before I started watching this video...
I think more of the foam from 657 went on 655 than the actual fire.
Looks like every ARFF department should do this after the crash of the F/A-18 set fire to several buildings in Virginia Beach.
thats better than the regular way no hooking up just spray water on the fire

them normal rigs are dwarfed by the ARFF trucks lol. That metric ASS tone of foam doe.
VERY expensive way to pressure wash a building. Ineffective application of water. But I bet they had a blast!
wie viel bar fahren die dinger ?

"655 to 657 officer, could you please shoot in the window? or else your probie is going to lick your foam off my truck!"
Interesting! Three trucks have run empty and the house is still burning. Do you think they got enough in the end facing the camera?

Amazing video!!!
Great work of 2 crash trucks on a multi-residental, this method should be a constant usage.
dang... layin' down the foam. That stuff isn't cheap either!
Instant Winter Wonderland... Just add water...
only problem with daily use is most of theses crash rigs take up a two lane rd be them selves not alot of room with traffic and such anywhere
4 to a truck i think
i love arff trucks.

And thats how you paint a house to conceal fire damage....

I wonder how many gallons of AFFF they put on that fire.
Listen to those Detroits howl!!!

just awesome all the way
The person inside did not burn to death or die from smoke, but they did from the foam lol jk
well thats one way to do it
3 actually haha. WOW this is amazing!!
all that and the fire still is burning lol
Holy foam!
1:40 Oshkosh Stryker.
The part where the trucks get hit with the foam would look awesome to have screen shots made and then slap a brazzers logo on it.
But very nice job. :D
Yikes thats lots afff?!?!
Hahah looks like milk leaking from the building :p
fire .....what fire actually detroit needs a few of these think of the manpower it will save from all the arson fires
looks like it snowed, lol
Surround and drown...haven't lost a basement yet!

The days of surround and drown are over boys, it's all about foam application and its not that good here!!!
