    Ha ha ha ha, I was wondering if you were going to smell the tires,... and then you did. I guess that is part of the Tamiya building procedure. I know I smell the tires every time.

    My first ever rc car ❤️, my parents bought it for me for Xmas, such happy memories of watch my beloved dad building it for me 🙌🏼🙌🏼. When we first swapped out the 380 motor and fitted a diff, it was a different car 😅🙌🏼

    my friend had this stock when we were kids in the 80s... we always joked that he needed a string attached to his radio because we would threaten to run into it with our souped up hornet, frog and icarus. he would walk right next to the car while he drove it and as soon as ours started getting close he would cry out and pick it up real quick... so many good memories!

    I always loved the smell of the tires in the kits also back when you had to build any "'real" rc car. The only RTRs you got at Kmart snd Radio Shack and were made by Tyco

    Loving this kit from my childhood led to me owning a real Brat today! Of course I had to build a replica of it and stuff a WRX engine in the real one.

    If you are going to build a runner out of one these, one of the best things that can be done for handling is to run the grasshopper 380 motor mount, with a 2838 brushless motor around 3000kV, 35A esc and use the largest kit option spur gear with a Blackfoot/Beetle pinion gear. - Using the polycarbonate body of course.
    Because a 2838 Brushless is smaller and lighter than the stock 540 while having more power it really makes it a lot more fun. This works well because the motor's mounting position is almost the highest point of the chassis and you reduce the roll massively. Torque is no problem for the small brushless and the very light weight of the ORV chassis is propelled well.
    For extra improvement you can then mess around with running slightly softer springs, although I have no formula for this, I used random springs I have no idea where from........

    Looks good. Great video of this awesome truck. It makes me want to drive mine or maybe build the rerelease one I have. I almost bought the blue version. I ran the front tires on my frog cause they made it steer better. I destroyed my first original body. I hooked 2 6cell packs in series and let it rip. It came on real fast and hooked the corner by my house and tumbled like crazy. It was so funny at the time. The batteries flew out and it burned up the resistors. I restored it 1994 with a Mud Blaster body set.

    I love the ORV chassis, as you say it's very quirky, but it's different\ that's why I love it. Although the Lancia rally car body just does not look right sat on the ORV chassis, the wheels stick out so far, to me it looks ridiculous. Just my personal opinion. The Subaru Brat has to be one of my all time favourite bodies though, always loved it, had a Mud Blaster many years ago. Anyway, cant wait to see the build and running video!!

    Hello Gavin, I built this kit a few years ago. This is a fun easy kit to build. I really like that Tamiya included two bodies. Both a hard plastic body and a polycarbonate body too. However, you only get one set of decals in the kit. You will need to get a separate set of decals for the other body. Thoughts?

    You can actually run both bumpers together. If I remember correctly, I think the manual tells you to build it that way. It's a very fun car to drive but I'm always afraid it'll tip as it is a little top heavy.

    Hi Gavin. The brat is one of those re releases that is pretty close to the original. It is as good as the Holiday Buggy 2010 is bad.I am praying for an original sand rover/holiday buggy chassis rerelease, but am resigned that we will not get it.I also want to see the original Pajero. They could do this so easily with the montero wheelie body having been released, and of course it was the lunchbox chassis and Brat wheels. Please lets all push for the original Pajero re release,as making one up out of parts is tricky and expensive.By the way.The lexan body in the Brat kit is rubbish. It has no detail and is a bit big.I run mine on the hard body and it is strong and looks great. If you want a shelf queen and a runner, buy another hard body.In my opinion there is no point running the Brat if it doesnt look like one.Great channel.Cheers.

    4:41 those tie rod ends on the steering linkage have to be the DUMBEST idea to ever be used in RC. You have to unsnap them to do wheel alignment and the more you unsnap them the weaker they get. Not only that, but the part that threads into the tie rod end can strip or break easily.
    I can say I probably broke one almost every time I ran my Rough Rider. Eventually I put after market turnbuckle type metal ones on and never had a problem again.
    I always found it strange how tamiya could put so much time in engineering and building these kits to have such glaring weak points and then do it for years over dozens of kits.

    Great kit, specially since it has the oil shocks, direct steering, differential which the original didnt have. The 3 gearings are verry far apart since you change pinion and spurgear to change gearing with the motor in identical position and you need to disasemble a good bit of the car to change the gear inside the gearbox. Not sure if the item that moves the motor position for the blackfoot gives you 3 aditional gearing choices and which ones these are, does anyone know or has tried that?

    • @digiprez77
      @digiprez77 2 роки тому +1

      I have an adjustable motor mount that lets you use different pinion sizes without swapping the spur. it is a couple of sliding shims basically. Problem is you need the weird long boss pinion gears to get the mesh right. A 13T pinion was my favorite, my Blackfoot could haul.
