    Nice video. I like the minimalist design of this kit. Also the fact that there isn't a battery back that can potentially hinder using a bag on the frame clip. The only limitation I see is on the speed limit and regenerative breaking for me. As you know, I've been rolling with my Switch kit. One thing I learned that's not advertised, is the kits specs adjustment capability. I was able to optimize my kit at 20 mph (US limit) and adjust the detection and sensor read timing of the magnetic sensor. I am curious of how much optimization the Driiven will allow.

      CosFlow Effect hey! Swytch allows me to adjust acceleration and max speed in two separate settings. This allows me to have a slow acceleration and max top speed. The Zehus rolls this into one setting. So you can only have slow acceleration and low max speed or fast acceleration and high max speed. It does have cadence level detection. But it's only useful in low power assist level where there is a range of acceleration. At the max power assist, even pedaling slow will just launch you. The zehus max speed cut off is what e-riders call going off a cliff. The sudden motor cut and rolling resistance feels like someone hit the brakes. Swytch doesn't have this problem because you can set the cut speed to the max level the motor can support you. Swytch requires adjusting the PAS (pressing buttons) to meet the same affect of cadence detection. Have you tried reducing the current down to 7A? It gives a more natural acceleration and longer ride.

    • @cosfloweffect2929
      @cosfloweffect2929 5 років тому

      @@DrJamesT I have not tried lowering the current, but I did reduce the PAS level amount. Default is 1-9. I switched it to 1-5. I feel like this gives me better range of control on how much assist I want. I've also adjusted the time the motor kicks in as per acceleration. It still kind of jolts forward, but gives me a longer period of slow movement before kicks in. Will the Driiven allow for speed beyond 15mph? How's the battery life and consumption on various speeds?

    Great video DrJames. Can you share your opinion on how difficult it is to ride with the motor off? Also would it be difficult to repair a rear puncture?

    • @DrJamesT
      @DrJamesT  4 роки тому

      There is a hack that lets you repair a tire without removing the wheel. Removing the motor wheel is the same as a normal wheel. This motor has no wires. Check out @3:14 for motor resistance test, while I was riding on down tower bridge. Riding flats is like riding up tower bridge.

    My Brompton has a dynamo lighting which attach to rear tire. I don't know if I the new rim can still attach my dynamo kit there too?

    • @DrJamesT
      @DrJamesT  2 роки тому +1

      I don't recommend friction based dynamo kits for this system because you are using electricity to turn your lights on via friction, which is wasted as heat. Rechargable led lights is direct electricity to light.

    hi Dr James, wonderful video.
    question: i am keen on this setup and it seems timely that i get another brompton for this, especially for my wife. it would suffice to get a single speed bro for this yeah? is it worth it to get a s1e-x (titanium version)? and plonk the zehus bike+ on it? i mean is the steel version heavy?
    you should do a hummingbirdbike review soon!

    • @DrJamesT
      @DrJamesT  4 роки тому +1

      ascensionyze X yes to single speed version because you’ll be replacing the wheel and hub. Driiven has its own titanium triangle so you just need to buy a steel brompton, titanium fork, titanium Driiven.

    It looks like a good kit... but it's ludicrously expensive! I fitted a kit (not Swytch) to my Brompton B75 and got an electric B for about £1300. It might not be as technologically advanced as that kit but it was easy to install (about an hour for me) and does not compromise the fold in any way. I get about 35 miles range on level 3 (out of 5). A lot of kits are way out of most peoples budget.

      To answer your question - I'd love to see your review on Vello+. Personally I ride Vello Urbano v1.0 basically everyday and I love it! I rode once Vello+ while I was living in london (bikefix has it) and I was amazed.

    While these look nice, it's a terrible idea to have everything in the wheel. Hard to change parts of something goes wrong. Lots of weight in the wheel. But mainly all the heat from the motor and controller will damage the battery.

  • @bormil66
    @bormil66 5 років тому +1

    ....this means - no shiftier and when a battery is drain out you have only one gear to continue your ride ! Maybe in 3 years you have to change your battery and because of this super design , how much it will cost you?? :)

    • @DrJamesT
      @DrJamesT  5 років тому +1

      A 2 speed shift from the factory 6 speed version is possible. The Bike+ version can be charged by cycling it -> crazy workout. I agree in 3-5 years time the mileage might decrease to impractical levels. The company apparently will service it at a cost. It should cost no more than a third of the motor price. This is why the zehus kit is recommended for the rich folks. It's the best in terms of design but like a super car, the price is for people with a practical mindset. If you want a budget kit get the Swytch kit. If you want something in between or beyond check out the Grin Tech series. If you live in the UK and have the cycle to work scheme at your company go for the official brompton.

      Peter Simonson you set it once and that’s all you need. The rest is to monitor the motor. The electric bike itself can run out electricity. Risks is the same. Bring a spare power bank.

    Battery inside a hub is a bad design, its added weights and centripetal force to the wheel. There is more drag when you pedal and Its will also ruin your bearing.
