The pros: performance & optimization / amoled screen still looks gorgeous / camera updates make it plenty useful, very good colors / fingerprint reader The cons: weak front camera / peak brightness of 450nits (was a good value in 2018, today any midrange phone has 700nits at least) / not updated with android 11
I'm still rocking mine, same specs and finish. I don't often take photos but I have Gcam and it's enough! It still holds up today and I'll probably jump to Vivo later next year with the V80 or who knows by then. But so far this OnePlus 6 and custom roms, I'm still really happy the bang for the buck I got for the amount of years use I had out of it. 3.5+ years! Ain't bad at all. Got Android 11, the last update. But custom roms. ;)
Yeah i can agree! I was really happy with my OP6 too. But actually your cons are not even true. It got the android 11 Update and the screen brightness is about 600nits. The 6T somehow has 450nits. That was one of the reasons why i bought the non T-version because the 6T was already released when i got mine. But actually you can find different reviews where the OP6 also is about 450nits. Interesting. I can confirm mine was about 600 because i compared it to my new IPhone 12 that comes with a 650nits Display and the brightness was really close to each other. So there have to be different display panels in the OP6 if some reviews measured 450nit and others 600.
I had OnePlus replace the battery and charging port for around 45€, new tempered glass, new dbrand skin, now it's as good as new. Android 11 is a bit hit and miss but there're several great custom roms and an active community considering its release date. That's 2-400€ I can spend on something else by prolonging the lifespan of this great device.
Am using my one plus 6 over 3 years and really really shocked that it is still better than some phones recently launched in 2022.. like its a hats off to one plus... They have created a beast... It's over 3 years and still works like butter and really less lags and framedrop. Watching in July 2021 on my Oneplus 6 phone. You know how iPhone users can use a phone for 5 years without significant performance degradation? This phone is the Android version of that. Still runs like a dream 3 years on and with daily heavy lifting. OnePlus is disappointing their fans right now with the latest offerings, sad to see the initial zeitgeist of the company gone...
I had to convince my parents to get this beauty when I was studying in college. I knew I took the right decision though it was costly at that time. Now even after getting a job and seeing everyone around me getting latest iphones I am still sticking with this masterpiece. Changing battery after 3.5 years gave new life to it and I'm gonna use it till it dies (5-6 years probably). You don't frequently get a phone that is this future-proof in a time of half baked Androids. Anyone who has this phone must use till it's end ! PS: I am still in Android 10. It's annoying to clear update notification for 11 regularly especially if u turn off device often ;)
I still have the original battery in my OnePlus 6 and it works great!! The only problem I ever had with this phone is the screen starts flickering when it gets cold outside so I did end up purchasing a OnePlus 8 pro but if it wasn't for that issue I would still be exclusively using my OnePlus 6, in fact I'm using the 6 to type this message LOL
I'm watching this on my 8t. I still have my op6. I would have to agree with a couple of other comments when they mentioned the mono speaker setup. It's not loud at all. The 8t is super loud and I find myself turning it down lol. That's unheard of on the 6. Damn, how I miss the using the 6 tho. I miss the rear fingerprint sensor, LED notification light, and especially the headphone jack. I find myself looking for a headphone jack all the time on my 8t, and that can be a major drag.
Even in 2024 i gave this phone to my wife, and installed a custom rom called, superiorOs, i felt that was fast than my op7 pro lol, seems that op6 is the best oneplus ever (talking about price of release compared to the latests)
Is your OP6 still working? Is it safe to use custom rom? I am using my OP6 for 6 and half years now and it's on Android 11(thanks 1+ for additional 1 year of software update than promised). I am looking for a new phone as it finally starts to feel sluggish but might delay that for a bit if it lasts 6 to 12 months more. 5G is the only thing missing for me from this thing which is not a big deal right now. OP6 clearly has been a great phone, I am glad I bought this one and did not wait for OP6t that time with his teardown notch and no headphone jack.
I fee like i pained myself into a corner when i bought this. Its served me super well, and genuinly trying to find a replacement for this when it stops getting updates.. but i cant seem to find anything that has better specs for a similiar price 3 years later. I was looking at the Pixel phones, but spec wise they are worse even coming out today? They really outdid themselves when they made the OP6.
The OnePlus 6 has one of the best cameras on any smartphone especially in its price range! the camera app I'm using takes comprable pictures to the OnePlus 8 pro and in some situations that has more detail than the OnePlus 8 pro! Don't let a reviewer tell you what you can see with your own eyes and if you see the picture quality on phone B looks better than phone A but everyone is telling you phone A looks better don't trust them trust your eyes! The only compromise I can really see on this phone is the audio quality but it does have a headphone jack and you can always pair it with a Bluetooth speaker...
Super review, I installed Palladium Custom Rom v1.5 a week ago and I can confidently say that this is by far the best Rom out there in terms of exceptional performance and battery life, can you imagine that I get around 7 - 8 hrs of screen on time? And with Gcam installed, it's on par with the OP8. Install a Custom rom like Palladium or Evolution X and there's no turning back guys. The features are amazing and twice being feature rich than stock rom any day. Our amazing OP6 will easily last for another 5 years with the support of XDA Developers.

I love my OP6 but I have a cracked back and scratched up front. For new OEM parts I could refurbish everything I need for $200 ish. Are there better Android options around that price right now? I love the optical image stabilization on my OP6 and the notification LED.

As today i can say its supergood, in my country it sells for around 120-140 euros=130-160usd, for that price you cant get anymore better, i dont want to buy new phone becouse i will be paying over 600 euros for better one that is somewhere worth to upgrade even.
if i had to by a cheap Oneplus right now, i would rather look for a new Oneplus 8 or the first OP Nord, you can easily find both for around 300€ and they will last far more than a second hand OP6 (5G, more software updates and support)

Screen size, 6T is bigger. Also battery, 6T is bigger. But...... Since 6T has bigger screen it eats up battery faster too so it might be a tie honestly.

Yes but using Oxygen OS u should keep in mind, that software support will end soon (Feature and Security Updates). So i would not really recommend buying it for the future, if u are not going to use a custom rom like Lineage OS.

Well i am a heavy user of one plus 6. Almost all of my Instagram photos except some have been taken on my one plus 6 and edited on it by me. For anyone who is worrying about the camera. It's not bad but yes not better. But I will say this only once "for photos lighting is more important and under good lighting u get gorgeous results" Low light not good honestly coz it's iso is only from 100-6400 which is garbage in my opinion. Since alot of phone now a days have high dynamic ranges, so they perform better under low light. Long exposures though in this phones's camera is a hit or miss. I can't say anything about video mode since I have never use it. I can only speak for photography side of things. For those who wants to see OnePlus 6 photos I took my insta I.D is @kevinb.bangs

You will sacrifice camera and battery life for great amoled screen and snapdragon processor. It might not be an upgrade though but worth trying 😉

@@n-s742 OnePlus camera is just like iphone, it may have low megapixels but it has good sensors. Battery is not a problem for OnePlus 6/6t it has long battery life don't be confuse on the numbers.

So i would not really recommend buying it for the future, if u are not going to use a custom rom like Lineage OS.

Well i am a heavy user of one plus 6.
Almost all of my Instagram photos except some have been taken on my one plus 6 and edited on it by me.
For anyone who is worrying about the camera.
It's not bad but yes not better.
But I will say this only once "for photos lighting is more important and under good lighting u get gorgeous results"
Low light not good honestly coz it's iso is only from 100-6400 which is garbage in my opinion.
Since alot of phone now a days have high dynamic ranges, so they perform better under low light.
Long exposures though in this phones's camera is a hit or miss.
I can't say anything about video mode since I have never use it. I can only speak for photography side of things.
