This was so helpful! I have 6 house plants in my office and they’re doing well but when it came to a succulent I had, it died from being overwatered 😕 so I feel more confident that I can care for a succulent now thanks to you
This is great. I really needed this video as I just purchased a large succulent pot with many succulents from Lowes in Colorado. Lowes had the plant instructions that said full sunlight. I watered the plant. After a day in the sun one of the larger succulent flattened out and died...In the morning I will see if I can save the plant. Thank you so much on this video. I now have information on how to really care for my succulents.
You’ve restored my faith in that I can once again own a succulent and no longer kill it. Thank you, nice informative video. (PS. Maybe you can show me again how to propagate the leaves, I’ve yet to have any success in that area) thanks again.
UGH....I would have rinsed off the roots and let it dry (and loose the plant)! Thank you, for opening my eyes to doing it the correct way!! Your're the best, Christine!!
My main issues I get with my succulents is stretching and them getting all tall and grown out. I try to rotate them and remove the dead leaves often. I've trimmed and replanted a few of them but the newer ones and fragile little ones quickly go from cute and symmetrical to all lopsided and stretching out between the leaves lol. I wish they'd stay cute and compact!
Thank you for this very informative video! Thorough and precisely demonstrated, now I can watch this video while I save succulents from big box store on clearance!!! I’m definitely excited to all the learning I’ll get from this series Christine!
I have been looking for a video that actually shows the process with what the roots look like or not sure. Thank you for showing this. I am doing the drying method since some of the soil is so hard to take off without damaging. Will be following you.
I love my plants, but have lost all my succulents, which stresses ME out. I came to YT to decide what cacti to get for a big, shallow pot...and got tempted by succulents again! Thanks to you, I not only found mammillaria to buy, but how to keep my fave succulents alive. I’m enjoying your plant videos!
Good video. I did exactly what you did to save a succulent last winter after it was bloated from the rain. I just stored it in our garage to dry out. The Bunnings around the corner from where I live are forever selling overwatered succulents. None of them ever look healthy unless the new stock has just arrived. The staff they use to water their plants just spray everything down with a hose. 🤦🏽♀️
Thank you so much for this video. I got a plant and thought it was over watered by the previous owner. But it was actually root rot. This is so helpful!
Wow ..... I really needed to see this, I have the same plant and it was doing really good. It grew new plant growth. But weeks later I noticed most of the leafy parts fell out. I think I over watered it. I was so upset I really was going to throw it away until I saw your video. I will try to do the same finger's cross...🤞😊
I have a beautiful little echeveria 'Perle von Nurnberg' that I overwatered greatly last summer. Actually, looking back, I half killed it! I immediately recognized the problem once it had dropped a few bottom petals and STOPPED WATERING. I didn't remove it from its like orange/peach colored terra cotta pot, but drilled some holes the width of a pencil by inserting it down to the base, so as to expose more soil to let it dry out. I think it's still recovering from the water shock, so I'm just giving it a long watering hiatus. It's winter time here in Lake Charles, LA and the next few nights are going to have lows in the 40's, so I'm moving it back outside on the porch so it can catch morning sun. It'll make it, but I learned a lesson. When it comes to watering, less is more often than not better most times, especially if you're in doubt. I can't wait until spring, so I can bring it out in full sun for 1/2 a day, then indirect light for the rest, due to the way the porch is situated. Happy growing from a subscriber!
Christine, one more thing: Have you ever made kokedama? It's such a cool way to plant drought tolerant plants! I made one and its my fav. Look it up and maybe do a fun video making one?
Yup! I’m also seeking the How to save a “root rot” alternative video. Please link us if that video is available. Thank you!!!! Great video, and this is super helpful.
@@typicallyvirgo wait until their bottom leaves are wrinkly and thin . Also they will start to close up instead of having their leaves open to the sun ! When you give their bottom leaves a squeeze, they should be squishy ! I water mine about once every 3 weeks maybe more
This was very helpful, thank you! My zebra haworthia may be too far gone (I put it in a glazed planter, knew better, but it was SO cute!) but I'm going to pull it out, let it dry out, and see where I can go from there!
This was the most informative video thank you 😊 I’m going to rescue some at Lowe’s here they tend to over water a lot of them I’m definitely gonna go get some
Thank you so much, this was really helpful! I have a tiger stripe friend I got recently and I think it's been overwatered, but at least I know how to check and fix it now!! Much appreciated!
Oh thank you so much for this video,. This has totally help me ,. I also just got succulent plants the other day,. It was soak with water from Lowes store,... 🤦😵💫😳😱
They need to be watered when the soil is completely dry, the top soil will have zero moisture. This is about 1 to 1 1/2 weeks, or depending on your climate.
Do like me! I put a bamboo chopstick in every one of my pot so periodically I can take it out and check if it’s moist. Touch it even if it seems clean and dry. At the touch if it seems cold than it’s still moist. If it’s very moist or wet you’ll see it reddish and will have dirt on it
I have a beautiful spiral ribbed succulent that was growing so well! I saw some fresh leaves, and it was just beautiful! Then just out of sudden, the middle got mushy and the leaves were like empty, and it just fell apart. Why did that happen? I'm extremely upset, because it was my favorite one! I haven't watered it...
How often do you suggest to water succulents and cactus? I have read so many different ways to do it and it's confusing. Thanks for all the info. I was wondering what was wrong with my succulents. Now I will be taking better care of them. Love your channel and can't wait for your next video!
Are you able to propagate the mushy leaves? If so, how did you do it? I ask because I accidentally over watered one of my rarer succulents and am trying to save it. I tried to let the leaves dry out because I desperately wanted to propagate them but to me, it looked like they died after a couple of days. 😢😢😢
She buys the pots bare terracotta and paints them! She’s got a DIY video here somewhere on how she does it. The pots are so sweet, and look amazing with succulents and cacti living in them! ☺️🌵🌱💚
I take dirt off same, but also rinse roots off well. Gets the wet dirt from the delicate roots also. I love saving cacti and succulent. Have even dug out of Walmart garden center garbage..😜
Hi I got a succulent and ir has mushy leaves but no rot on roots they were just white and I think my clay pot is irritating the laves because they are touching the pot I left it to dry like you did I reppoted and it yellowed few bottom leaves again more in replys-
I reported it leaves gone yellow again I put it in well draining yellow but it doesn't seem like over watering because I took a yellow leaf and squished it and it was completely dry it's mainly healthy but it's just a few bottom leaves. Maybe a bigger pot?
What if you have a under watered succulent yet the roots are dead? Cause idk what that means cause I checked her and her roots and soil were completely dry yet her roots were black and I havent watered her
This is so helpful thank you so much! I have ordered new soil and am wondering how long my succulents can stay out of the soil while I wait for my soil to arrive? Is it better to keep them in the "drying out stage" while I wait or wash off the soil so they can get some water while they wait? I hope this makes sense, thank you so much
Can you please post the part 2 to How To Save Overwatered Succulents? I have a succulent with rotting stem that looks exactly like the one you showed at the end and need to know what to do :'(
this is the most informative video i’ve watch for my dying succulent

Wow! Universities need you to teach their students. Very well explained. Thank you so much!
Great video! I have never seen anyone show the different roots so well. Am I crazy or is part 2 not out yet? I can't seem to find it.
Can’t find it either
I am also looking for part two.
Did anyone find part 2 lol?
yeah im looking for part 2 too lol
I'm also looking for part two. If anyone finds it, please reply and let us know, thanks!
Thanks for the detailed guide. But I can't find he root rot video on the channel ☺️

Wait your not supposed to rinse the roots and let it dry?😧
Aah damn
@@senaga705 i think that method also works fine
I assume only with the root. Rot scenario wouldnt be so good

I have this same problem. My baby echeveria keeps stretching. I’m ready to try to repot again, but I’m clearly doing something wrong.
Sounds like stretching for more light. Those paler colored succulents like more light usually than the darker leafed ones.
East or south facing window, or a grow light

Christine, it was so good to see you, loved the video!!! I hope both of you are well, thanks for sharing. Judy
Thank you for this. I always learn so much about succulents from you. I’m looking forward to the next one ☺️

I'm happy you're back doing succulents 😀 I learned a lot from you when you collected them in Hawaii
Thank you for sharing that. Now I can help save my succulent! Yay!
Yay you're welcome, thanks Jaimee!
I’m more worried because my roots aren’t that thick and long 😰 should I really go through with it 😭

I love the way you explained root rot, I understand it so much better now!
This video on root rot and overwatered succulent was great

Oh perfect, thanks Myra!
Ya me too!!
I am struggling too. Just making mistake after mistake. But your video is so thorough and paced so right and the narration is perfect. Thank you
The big mystery still is - what is the ideal watering for succulents? Leave them to dry too much and they droop, a bit more, they rot.
@@typicallyvirgo wait until their bottom leaves are wrinkly and thin . Also they will start to close up instead of having their leaves open to the sun ! When you give their bottom leaves a squeeze, they should be squishy ! I water mine about once every 3 weeks maybe more
my succulent has been losing leaves so this was super helpful taking it out and letting it dry tomorrow morning

Do you have links to where to buy the soil?
Can you provide the link to the video with the second part?
Since this one was over watered, how often should they be watered and how much? I never know if I'm doing the right thing and I'm always guessing!
They need to be watered when the soil is completely dry, the top soil will have zero moisture.
