Alternative title: Balto FUCKS!?
It might have been a half-assed direct-to-video sequel, but 2 was a perfect wolf-girl movie
😂😂😂
Wait, being a wolf girl’s a thing?
I am not alone.
off topic, and i know this comment was three years ago, But i love the night in the woods pfp
Now that I'm older and have huskies of my own it's so weird to me that all the puppies but one came out looking exactly like Jenna.
I have a white husky and a gray husky. My white husky had puppies and all of them came out pure white, while only one puppy came out gray like her dad. So uh, not at ALL weird 😂
Our husky is a chocolate red but when our pyrenees/American eskimo mix had his puppies none of them came out looking like him. We got 5 black, 3 reddish gray that turn copper in the sun, and one white wolf looking one. So from my perspective it's still weird.
C'est une métaphore
It's just lazy character design as a lot of these straight to video sequels often purposely put in less artistic effort in their aristic design.
@@GalaxiaStarsto be fair, with Lady and Tramp, the puppies were in the first movie lol, and I think Walt thought it was a cute touch to make the girls like their mother while Scamp completely took after his father.
But yes, in this movie I was always so disappointed not only only did all the puppies except Aleu look like clones of their mom, but they didn’t even look like actual puppies, they literally look like miniature dogs. I think its cute they made the oddball a girl instead of the typical father and son thing, but I never got why she was the only one to actually resemble her wolf ancestry in looks and personality. Doesn’t help none of the other puppies even have names aside Kodi, let alone personalities, we don’t even know if all them were boys while Aleu was the only female in her litter. I know its just a dumb kids movie and the writers just didn’t care about details for a cheap cash grab, but come on
I just realized they changed Balto's eyes between the first and second movies in the first movie his eyes were yellow, like a wolf's in the second they are white like a dog's
Dogwashing
I accidentally read that as “Balto is Dead?!”
Me too! Until I read this comment I don't even notice
I mean, he's a dog... and Balto takes place far in the past...
Internalized wolfphobia really is a huge issue, thank you for talking about it 😔✊
I'm not scared of wolves as animals but I'm scared of wolves for trying to attack me and not understanding me for not wanting any trouble with them.
But it's fascinating to know how wolves are actually scared of humans just like how humans being scared of wolves.
as someone with internalized wolfphobia myself, I can totally agree. 😔✊🏼
Slight error. Balto is half wolf in these animated films, but his children are only one quarter wolf, even Aleu.
yes but in real life Balto was a Siberian husky u assume that makes Aleu part Siberian husky
@@kelseydonaldson8625Plus, the real Balto was neutered. So he never had puppies to begin with.
Balto tells his daughter she's half wolf? Shouldn't she technically be a quarter wolf?
Y'know I think my grandma made that exact same argument when I forced her to watch it with me when I was like 10 I think. But even with that the points brought up in this video sort of make that easier to look past. If there is a part of you or your heritage that you don't like no matter how small that problem or how diluted the blood, there is the knowledge that that part of you is still there. Especially in a small town like Nome where the heritage of sled dogs and dogs in general seems to be a big thing, a dog that was a half breed and undisputedly looked like one would be lesser or unreliable as is brought up in the first movie. Thank you for listening to my Ted talk.
He's an animal not a human he's not aware of those kind of stuff as a human would
Is a wolfdog even able to count? Let alone do divisions?
@@CrimsonStudioz He speaks English pretty well, he would probably have a basic understanding of numbers. ;)
@@Altt no no you don't get it this is the English dub version of the movie 😌 lol in the original everybody is barking
Jk Jk 😂
I remember the spiritual stuff on Wolf Quest being pretty cool to see as a kid, and learning the white wolf was his mama made rewatching the first one very interesting.
La spiritualité de Balto 1 est amplifiée dans Balto 2.
Personally I always found the white wolf being his mother a bit odd. I was pretty disappointed the movie never showed his father or if he had any other siblings. Maybe they weren’t allowed to be part of the wolf pack, so she sent them to the human village instead so they could at least survive?
Wolf quest was my favorite growing up. Not just cause it had canines, but I was also really fascinated by the lessons of the music. I swear this was the first time I really questioned who I was and I was 8. All because a mouse said “you know what you are but not who you are” and the songs “who are you” and “grand design”. It really provoked my 8 year old brain and pushed me towards self discovery. I’ll admit the movie is a product of its time and moves super fast, but it still holds a real special place in my heart for inspiring me to discover myself.
I didn't even know there was another sequel, I only watched the original and the sequel, but I remember enjoying them
Same. "The *first* Balto sequel" made me stop and think, wait, there's more than one?!
So then, what did you both think about the second (and only other) Balto sequel?
dude for ages I thought the second films ending was meant to be sad thinking they were floating off to their deaths and left at the mercy of the water currents and were accepting their potential fate so for the longest time I was just like "damn these are some tough characters"
OH.MY.GOD. the first sequel is a 1:1 reflection of many half blooded native American descended people in the Americas. And especially for me and my family but spanning from my great-grandmother to me and my mother. Down to the exact words balto says about our heritage being something to be ashamed of and to improve ourselves by rejecting part of who we are and to what roughly translates to "improving the race" "enmejorrando la Raza" by having more children with white people until our indigenous blood is diluted into extinction. Oh the irony in the fact that I and my mother reject and oppose the redirect of my great-grandmother and grandfather.
The thing I liked most about the second movie was the sound track. Like, that midway banger with the mouse? Flipping fantastic, and haunting.
Wolf Quest was my favorite movie as a kid and I will always love it the most of the three.
Also screw that town, I'd adopt Aleu, being realistic she'd have a good temperament most likely since she's only a quarter wolf.
omg balto 2 its the first balto movie i've ever watched and i love it sm and aleu is so cute especially as a baby😭 ( the scene inside the cave with the glowing wall paints specifically marked me a lot i think its very cool !! )
Tbh ever since I learned a lot about Wolfdog recently & then rewatching the Balto sequel, I just realized that the ppl who adopted Aleu's siblings probably have a one hell of a time raising them cuz Aleu's sibs are also wolfdogs like her, plus they were F2/second generation wolfdogs :'D
I absolutely *adored* Balto and Balto 2 when I was a kid. Even though I haven’t had very many issues with people regarding my heritage and being part Athabaskan, there was something so relatable about Aleu’s fears about not knowing where she belongs, not knowing anything about her heritage, and wondering where she fits in society. Also it was pretty much the only animated talking dog movie set in my home country too, and I still miss Alaska a lot 😞
Asfklhdbh the after credits scene 😆
Wow, a kids movie about passing privilege? Not what I expected, but maybe this helped some kids.
it kinda did with me. I'm mexican, and we are a diverse group of people in terms of looks. my little sister always had pale skin and eurocentric features. I look more mexican, tanner skin and features of my native people. she always got mistaken as some flavor of white, mixed with something, but still white. I was always a bit jealous and angry that she got to be pretty and look white and I wasn't. I realized it was internalized racism in highschool and I learned I had my own beauty in my own way. I still get a little uncomfortable when my sister says the b slur since she looks more white but whenever I bring it up she goes "bUt iM mExiCaN" like, okay, whatever 😭
If Balto's half wolf, and the mother dog is full husky, isn't their pup quarter-wolf, not half?
While i enjoy the Balto sequels, i will admit they do have their ups and downs like all movies do but they are still fun to watch!
What you say at near the end, these movies are probably from the perspective of the dogs and like the first film was the kid's view of things so (at least) the second is from the perspective of the dogs and they probably don't put that much of a concentration on people.
Who knows
Thank you for talking about the Balto sequels. I love the second film, and your video showed me things about it I didn't even think about it at first. I also think the music and songs were quite nice.
The third Balto film, on the other hand, made me feel things I never want to feel again...
Bless this video - I thought I was the only one that could see all the DANG GOOD STUFF that made Wolf Quest the best of the movies (in my humble opinion)! Congrats, you just earned my sub.
Aleu is the best character, paws down. Her journey is just... such a good one, much more engaging than the third movie ever could have been.
...Now you gotta watch Scamp's Adventure, just to see if it was any different than you expected!
The moment when Aleu isnt adopted... god damn i cried for hours about it. The music, the expressions, the feels man.. You really feel for Aleu here. I wanted to adopt her myself
i had the original balto movie and the third movie (never the second for some reason) and both bring so much nostalgia. i remember watching so many clips of the second movie online and forming a strong attachment to aleu and in turn wanting a copy of the movie so badly but kind of having to fill in what i thought happened with my imagination based off trailers and edits. i was actually obsessed with balto along with every other animated kids movie with a focus on animals from that era lol. thanks for doing these videos on this overlooked series.
I’m actually alright with the sequels. Maybe it’s my bias as a furry talking, but I do legit enjoy these sequels.
Hell yeah, Boris is one of the best secondary characters in animation and I’m glad you gave him a little tribute at the end. We can all hope to have a good friend, or be a friend, like Boris.
Honestly the main reason I didn’t watch the “Balto” sequel as a kid was because it reminded me of “The Little Mermaid” sequel, with the plot focus on the protagonist of the first film hiding their heritage from their child which led to the central conflict. Plus, I had gotten tired of direct-to-video sequel films, and was honestly watching more anime at the time. 😋
Ah yes the Aleu sequel
I enjoyed that one! I havent seen Wings of change yet though
Also yeah balto is pretty similar to Lady And the Tramp 1-2 but tbh i like both, theyre enjoyable on their own ways (even though i feel more connected to LATT but shh)
Does anyone else see that the second kinda dives into LGBT+? Like how you had to hide that part of yourself otherwise you'd be outcasted and bullied?
It is!
Hell Animash fans tend to make Batlo characters some form of LGBT+ (usually either gay or trans), although with Wolf Quest just appropriated a lot of Native American symbols.
I saw has being black or a poc
@@smcphee8499 That works too.
@@smcphee8499 I found it for specifically biracial/mixed kids, the rest of the pups have some "features" of Balto, but don't get treated the way Balto and Aleu do by the rest of the village
I love Balto and the sequal. Both have a special place in my heart.
I loved Balto and its sequels.
But, I never knew Mark Hamill voiced Niju in Wolf Quest until 2/3 years ago while listening to the song, "The Grand Design" and someone wrote about that in the comments. I looked it up, and he really did voice the rival wolf.
Also, I love the songs, especially from Wolf Quest (although, "You don't need to be a hero" was also beautiful)
Mark Hamill also voiced Fire Lord Ozai in Avatar the Last Airbender. Crazy to think that the hero of Star Wars went on to play the villains. He really did turn to the dark side!
I grew up with Balto 1 and 2, but I don't remember much of 2. Perhaps a rewatch is due!
aint it kinda fucked that all of aleus siblings got adopted because they looked and acted more dog than wolf and aleu herself ended up living in the wild because she presented more as a wolf? Like, sure "happy ending" or whatever, but im getting the vibe of "not everyone was equal here, the one oddball was outcast to the wild"
idk maybe thats just me tho
Well Aleu deciding to live with wolves shouldn’t be considered lesser than living with the humans in the first place. She might have thought she wanted to live with the humans and dogs because that’s all she saw her siblings do. But she also wasn’t actively trying to change herself to fit into that world. Her main desire was to be accepted for who she was in a supportive community. So in the end I think that’s what she got. Both lives would be difficult to live in but in one she’d at least find support and love to be her true self.
Oh man I was obsessed with the second balto movie way more than the first. Would watch the vhs on repeat when I was a kid.
I hadn't watched the first Balto movie until a few years ago, but I had fond memories of watching the second one. Although I only ever watched it the one time, it has definitely stuck around in my mind all these years.
Ah! You did another one.. Lovely! I loved watching your comments and reviews of the Balto movie and sequeals, i loved it. Made me go through happy nostalgia
3:23 (Pushes up need glasses) biologically, Alex is 1/4 Wolf (as Jenna is pure Husky & Balto is half Wolf) so the fact that it’s her dominant genetic trait is unusual.
I remember this since I was a child, and unpopular opinion, the Balto Wolf's quest is as good as the first one
Fight me
Thank you finally someone says it!
I'm not a fan of direct-to-video sequels in general. I definitely take the original Balto over both of the sequels.
I have noticed few times on the Internet how a lot of Balto fans are arguing about which sequel is worse. Balto 2 has much better themes but Balto 3 has better animation.
I consider Balto 2 as the better sequel due to its thematic perfection and this video did great job proving it. But both of the sequels are overall bad sequels.
I still remember watching Wolf Quest for the first time on Cartoon Network Theatre, so nostalgic. I didn't find out until way later that there was a third movie, lol. It wasn't as good to me, but still alright. Even tho Wolf Quest is obviously not as good, I still hold it up in my head as being on the same level as the first movie. I watched the both of them so many times as a kid.
I’m not even that big into animation and tv shows ect but you give me so much serotonin that I had to subscribe
to the very last part of the video totally agree also my fav love the song soo much also loved the totem theme in the second movie
One thing I couldn't quite get was Balto told Aleu Jenna is a purebred husky so would that make her quarter husky
got that kevin macleod album on 🔥
Yo anyone else crush on that pilot from the third movie? 👀 seemed like he’d be a good cuddler
I used to think Aleu was really cool and I wanted to be like her when I was a kid
I love Balto and the sequels!
Although the 1st movie is 1 of my Favourites, I prefer the 2nd movie much more; the 1st movie's happy ending being shown in the 2nd movie to *not* guarantee Balto happiness makes me much happier than if just 1 adventure solved everything. Plus the 2nd movie made me love Balto as a character much more than the 1st movie did; also, Aloe is awesome.
I liked the second Balto movie better than than the third one... 😊
ok was anyone going to tell me that the Balto movies were allegories about the mixed race experience or was i supposed to start tearing up in the middle of a Drawpinion video explaining them on my own
Happy father's day to Boris
Watching this video again made me realise why i love balto 1 and 2. I was born in Portugal and raised in Brasil. I belong to both but everyone treats me like the girl from other country wherever I am or live. Now I also discovered myself being genderfluid. So the thing of being "half" one thing and "half" the other and the plot of trying to find who you really are always felt close to home for me as a kid without even realising why.
the balto sequels were a childhood classic of mine.... and i realize now they are what made me a furry
Hahaha. Same but accept I’m not a furry.
Hey! I have a question for you!
Which obscure Cartoon Network would you like to review?
1. "Whatever Happen To Robot Jones?"
2. "The Life And Times Of Juniper Lee."
3. "Class of 3000."
4. "Squirrel Boy."
5. "Robotomy"
Your choice!
Balto and Aleu's relationship is something I can understand, he simply doesn't want her to go through the pain he did. He's 6-7 in this movie and wishes Aleu to have the love that he never got at her age. And yet I wish we could have seen much more of them because we pretty much see them throughout most of the film arguing or having disagreements like a dad and teenage girl would. Sure its cute at first how he calls her his "baby" but the movie doesn't treat that as a good thing either, Boris literally says to Balto after he called her a "good pup" that she's not a pup and therefor shouldn't be coddled like one. This bites him in the butt quickly when the hunter decides to take aim at her which leads me to believe he was probably so caught up in his own little world that his "baby" is such a perfect angel and will never be allowed to grow up or leave he didn't feel the need to at least warn her about hunters and guns. whoops. I do wish Aleu apologized for calling Balto hopeless and yelling that she 'hated' him but her final words to him before departing at the end of the movie; I like to think that was her own way of saying that things were good between the two.
Today I learned there's more than one Balto sequel.
That made me laugh at 16:29 and also keep good work
I have all 3 movies on DVD :) Wolf Quest is my favorite of the sequels
The concept in this is that Balto 3 has the dialogue as Balto 1 Balto led a sled team with medication Kody led a sled team with a mail sled
Man I have the 2nd movie recorded from TV on a VHS just littered with 2000's ads and culture back when it played on TV. Notably ads for "Class of 3000", and "Kid's Bop 7; featuring new hit songs such as Avril Lavigne's 'Girlfriend' " :^))))
Paired with all that stuff, the 2000's flair of the film fits right in
And I love Boris too!
my best friend dog's name was Alu!!
we love this movies so much!! thanks for all this videos aboute our favorite wolf
Balto son all I know about him is that he’s shipped a lot with another male dog
Since they made the sequels none of the original cast from the first one don’t return to reprice there roles there is one thing I notice in the sequels where is Rosie do you know the little human girl from the first film she didn’t appear or made brief cameos in any of the sequels that reminds me where is Rosie ?
I didn't know that Balto 2 was originally named "Wolf Quest"...
I wait for Tower Fall episode for a few years, by the way. (if somebody will understand this, I will be squeaking of happiness)
OMG! I play WolfQuest too! I know that game!
I had to pause the video in the beginning bc my brain was flipping out over the idea that Emperors New Groove came out early enough to be on vhs. Like, my family had all but stopped getting vhs versions of movies by then, so I never realized that vhs tapes were still being made. My brain can't handle this combo rn lol
Oloo is not a half breed she is a quarter wolf and so are her siblings.
No offense but its spelt Aleu
My favorite Balto Movie growing up was the third one because I loved the piolet and Balto bonding, thought it was cute, but the first one is always going to be the best one obviously and now I would say the first one is my favorite.
Niju is basically Steele from the first Balto movie
You know it’s bad when you don’t remember or can’t even find on UA-cam balto 2 & 3 movies reaction by people! For me balto 1 is a masterpiece and a true one and it’s based on a true story that make it even better and for me it’s underrated sad that people forget balto tbh, even I forgotten that balto existed until my brother put the first movie yesterday first time since 12 years or so! They should have stuck to balto 1 or made animated movie of Togo but same universe as balto but now it’s his story.
As a child I loved balto and balto 2 but as for balto 3 eh....
Balto 2 is a metaphor for discrimination
I loved Balto 2 as i child but to be honest i had no idea there was a 3th movie until a few years ago and let's face it i wish i'd never discored it 😅
Could we hear what you thought of Pixar's Luca?
I love Balto!
13:40-13:55
Nava = Nicodemus
Neeju = Jenner
come on I couldn't have been the only one who noticed
Wait....
Balto's kids are ¼ wolf?
Wolf Quest was definitely my favorite
The spiritual themes were incredibly interesting for me as a child to watch - and as a very VERY mixed race race child? Yes!
Me i think this whole movie centered around Aleu and Balto.s relationship given he's trying to help her accept who she actually is which we eventually find out in the end of this
Balto 2 is a good sequel and i liked it mire then the original, and the voices of Lacey Chabert and Mark Hamill/ David Carradine breakout voices.
Neat. I never watched those movies because *A N I M E* was my thing back then.
Might as well give the third movie a watch, someday.
Both Balto and Anime were my thing at the same time when I was younger. That still holds true today and I couldn't be any happier
I would've adopted her
Das Lied mit der Maus in der Hölle war so mega Gänsehautmoment
I remember watching the third movie almost 10 years later after the first one. And I was obsessed with Balto when I was younger, so I really wanted to like it, but boy did I not enjoy that third one. Interesting concept, really not pushed too well though. Do remember watching the sequel on CN. Was okay with it, but I always struggled to remember the ending too well, and I now see why lol. Great video!
Your 1st Balto vid was great. I never had an interest the sequels, this is interesting
Agreed! Can’t get enough of Balto
big fan of pretty stella from the third movie
I grew up with the first sequel, which I had on vhs, and have only seen the original once or twice during my life. Makes sense that I'd get more attached to that one, since I was super "girl power! gimmie girls or bust!" as a kid
There is more than one sequel to it???
When I first heard about balto 2 I thought "ah shit, another generic direct to video sequel" when I watched it I was kinda wrong. Sure it is riddled with flaws, it was kinda nice.
Overall rating: 6/10
I have yet to watch the 3rd film
I liked the lady and the tramp sequel
I loved the sequels.
Reasons I am gay and a furry I guess!!
Idk why but I only watched the first and third movie🤣🤣 The first one because they had movies for rent in the public liabrary (including the first Balto movie) and the third one... because it played on TV on the E-TV Movies channel (South African channel btw) And... that female goose made me very uncomfortable even when I was a kid😳
Can we get Tram an a dame sequel vid?
Balto 3 doesn't even have its own Wikipedia page. lmao
2:14 You mean 1995?
What happen to Steel ?
Balto is from 1995, not 1997
Alu ?(I have no idea how to spell her name ) Aloo?
Anyway
The song between Balto's daughter and the mouse spirit is really heartwarming
Aleu, derived from Aleut
@@farewelltimetofly oh, okay, thank you
Balto never had kids . He was fixed .
My dumbass thought that this was the first movie. Suffice to say, I was very confused when I watched the movie the first time
