😆 ok at 11:00 someone pointed out that Balto closes the door with his foot. I didn't catch that and I guess the reason why I didn't is because it made NO sense for Balto's foot to be able to reach behind the door after he was already outside UNLESS he has the ability to extend his body like Mister Fantastic😆 23:44 oh and there is the man! I swear to goodness, I have watched this movie dozens of times and I have never seen that clip. I swear it feels like they added it in recently. But it's still exciting to know that you can watch a movie repeatedly and still miss things.
Alaskan here. Funny enough Steel and Jenna look like a normal husky/malamute but the other dogs look like real Alaskan huskies. They don't look like the iconic husky but look more like smaller, skinnier mutts and most have floppy ears. They are not that popular as pets outside of Alaska. But yeah, still love this movie~
Between this, Lady and the Tramp, Oliver and Company, The Aristocats, Homeward Bound I and II, and 101 Dalmatians, it was a great time to grow up as a dog/cat lover in the 90s; watching these films on VHS. Speaking of Dalmatians, its been said before by Nostalgia Critic, but Steele is basically reverse Cruella. A dog willing to kill children, as opposed to a human willing to kill puppies.

Wasn't uncommon way back then for sled dogs to be extremely mutty. Back during the Yukon gold rush, people were jonsing for ANY dog that might be big and strong enough to pull a sled. As such people bought or stole any big dog they could to take north to the Yukon/Alaska territory. In fact there was a book based on that fact, Call of the Wild by Jack London. So the fact that a lot of the other sled dogs don't look like pure bred sled breeds is period correct.
Steele has blue eyes and is about the size of an Alaskan malamute. The breed standard for malamutes involves them having brown eyes. Blue eyes are possible in Siberian huskies, but not pure malamutes. All that combined with what you posted makes me think that Steele could be a mix of Siberian husky and Alaskan malamute. Idk, maybe.🤷🏻♀️
@@abbytheredwolf174 Yup! This. The dogs we sledded with in Canada were all mutty looking, except one. They were bred and chosen for their drive over everything else so there was very little consistency in terms of type or conformation.
One thing i loved about this movie is (for the most part) the body language is wonderful. In the scene where Steele made fun of Balto's mother, the animators actually took the time to shrink Balto's pupil to show aggression. Amazing.

I like how the villain dog's facial features is solely designed to make a snarl, grin, teeth revealing etc. There's no shot of his face when he isn't menacing 🤔😁😂😂. On another note, would you consider reviewing an anime called Made in Abyss...please.
I am not sure if it is backed by science or not, but I think when a person expresses the same emotions over and over, their facial musculature changes so their neutral face is closer to that.
I use to volunteer at this one nonprofit organisation for dogs, and this one time, I got to chill in a kennel with this gorgeous enormous wolf-dog. She was white with a spot on her tail. She was really calm and gentle whenever I got to spend time with her, and she let me pet her. And I'm 4'11 so you can imagine just how big this beautiful creature was. Her head was like able to reach my chest, if I remember correctly. I suppose me having autism helped me to better connect with animals in this situation.
I watched this movie all the time when I went to my grandparents house. We'd rent the movie from the small local library, bring it home and watch it the whole time we stayed over. Brings back many fond memories.

Funny story, my grandpa raised a wolf dog from pup to old. He picked him from a farm and named him Thing and grew up to be so big he scared cops in a parking lot. But he loves icecream, kids and anything small as a mouse
I also didn't like when Balto growled when his paw got stomped on. In that scene, something that stood out to me was that the adults were right there. They could see Steele stomp on Balto's paw. After seeing that, they would be like, we can't bring him. The other dogs don't like him; they'll tear him apart. That was the only scene I disliked, and I personally did not like the two polar bears. As a kid, I remembered how annoying they were, and there was one moment while watching this on the VCR I would purposely fast-forward past their scenes because they were very unlikeable to me.
Oh my god do we have the same mind or what?! I felt exactly the same way when I first saw this. I also wondered why the humans did not see him but I gave him the benefit of the doubt that they were concentrating on him and did not see that Steele stepped on his foot. Regardless it's so unnatural and unrealistic for him to growl that way when he is hurt instead of crying out and whimpering or biting towards where Steele stepped on him. I love Balto but he doesn't seem like he was the smartest person in the room. 😂 I also could not stand the polar bears and for the longest while I did not even realize they were polar bears until it was mentioned. After seeing the movie several more times years later, I grew to tolerate them because at least they had their own little side quest where they had to overcome their fear of swimming. I don't know if they were orphaned as babies or something, but one of the first things that baby polar bears are exposed to is swimming. Maybe they had a horrible backstory and a bad experience with water or saw their mom get Pulled Under by an orca whale or something, but that rescue part was cute. Still did not understand why the grizzly ended up drowning but whatever
This movie is the best thing I stumbled upon my early teens. My aunt thought I was an absolute weirdo. But the thing is this film brought me so much happiness when I felt sad. Rosie accepting Balto really touched my heart.
@@RahmatrianZ I’m very aware the difference. Simply pointing out our history of taking critters in and making them family. And that wolves and wolf dogs aren’t unfriendly monsters.
Never seen this film…. Heard of it and seen pictures but never seen it. I don’t understand the appeal behind furries but got nothing but admiration for people that are confident to do what makes them happy! I don’t have the courage to even wear tighter clothes so again if you are brave enough to show people the real you I’ve got nothing but admiration for you. Live your truth 💪🏻
I believe Simon Wells confirmed that Balto's mother was a dog (he regarded Balto's father as the wolf parent while his mother was a working sled dog). If you recall that scene where Steele mock-howled ("I have a message for your mother!" and Balto got enraged, I personally imagine something dark happened in regards to Balto's father and mother. Like that mock howl was a wolf mating call or something (Like his wolf father abused his dog mother). Hence why Balto refuses to accept his wolf-side. My gosh, I have a morbid mind! Also, the White Wolf is NOT his mother, but is more a representation of Balto's Inner Voice, according to Wells. Forgot to add, but I LOVE Steele's design. I find it so intriguing how he looks way more like a wolf than Balto does, which is a cool distinction. He is more monster than dog.
@@Zay4Life I personally don't consider the second film canon, as the director of Balto 2 admitted to having never watched the original film. He just thought making the White Wolf his mother sounded like an interesting setup for the 2nd film (And it is interesting), but I don't agree with that change. It goes against the message Wells personally had in mind for the first film.
His quote says: "Whether the White Wolf is Balto's father or some kind of ephemeral Spirit of Wolf is deliberately unstated" I'd accept that it's a spirit but for it to be his farther after what was implied happened to his mother (that even Simon implied might have happened and could be an allegory for a father seeking forgiveness, which honestly, gross he shouldn't be seeking that from his son but his son's mother) I'd hate that. I'll say it even if it's unpopular: Simon Wells often uses his female characters as set pieces or motivating forces for male characters in his movies. Might I remind you he made Mars needs mums (honestly thinking of everything he directed and wrote for I can say An American Tail go west had the best women in it and even then they were both the goals for the male characters). I honestly prefer that Phil Weinstein went with death of the author and did something cool with it. We know that Simon hated the implication that the mighty white wolf even as spirit could be thought of as female. I mean he even corrected interviewers when that said "she" about this mystery spirit.
@@uryuu300 Eh , director didn't really have much to do with the writing though, he was more just hired on to do the directing of staff side and asking for more comedy and not for script writing like some directors do. Dev Ross was the one who wrote the screenplay and basically made the whole outline of the film, she loved balto and was the lead reason the themes of family played so heavily in the film, she did an interview that's on youtube if you wanna watch, it really goes indepth of what she was thinking when making most of the script.
25:46 "Domesticated" is not the same thing as "tamed". Domesticated involves many generations, resulting in changes in instinct and various other things; while when people talk about taming, that just mean training an wild animal, but the instincts remain there; a wild animal can only be tamed, and it never stops being wild; and a domesticated animal is born already domesticated.
I was half obsessed with this movie as a kid. It, and the first Alpha and Omega got me into a mini wolf phase for quite a while. Don't make fun of me...but I also liked the second Balto movie with Aleu. This movie is a big part of my childhood, and a big part of my furryness. (If that's a word....XD)
Well I won't say Balto made me a Furry, but I will say it was Space Jam's Lola Bunny, Animaniac's Minerva Mink, and Rescue Rangers' Gadget that had awakened it. Lol
I'm a grown man and when I'm having really bad days I watch this movie. It started my love of wolves when i first saw it all those years ago. What this film does is tell me there are no standards, no perfect images I must hold myself to. I am my own person. How an animated movie hits this home harder than any real film I really don't know
I remember that I loved this movie so much that a stuffed animal I had gotten at christmas a few months prior (that was named after my grandparent's dog) was renamed immediatley after I saw the movie. And then a few years later I proceded to name a webkinz animal the same name, so there was Balto and Balto59 and literally when I was talking about it I would call it Balto59 to my family (and I still do).
For me it wasn't even movies I literally met a whole gang of furries on my bus in 5th grade and I drew a dragon and someone freaked out like OMG IS THAT A DUTCHIE bc it had feathers I did not know what that was at the time And yeah after hanging out with them I ended up being a Furry lmao
I absolutely adore your commentary Alteroi!!! Its always as objective as possible and it reflects how the real everyday person with common sense would react lol. In addition you acknowledge any biases that you may have due to your upbringing. Thank you. I wish there were more reviewers like you. I know that you did Bambi to some extent but, I would be so interested to see what you'd think of all the Disney movies given that they tend to depict unusual circumstances, tom foolery and strange character decisions. I noticed that you tend to focus more on anthropomorphic based creatures, and nearly all Disney movies have some kind of animal companions or anthropomorphic characters. In short, I think we as your audience would really enjoy something like that in addition to the content that you already create.
It seems to me that Steel would be able to easily outrun the sled dogs, because he didn't have to pull a sled. It's like how swimmers train by wearing baggy pants to slow them down and build up strength, but on the day of the competition they wear a swimsuit that conforms to their body so there is as little drag as possible.
@@miceltusav88 I've been following this channel on and off for bit over a year... She's a type of peron that will deny it till the end, quoting personal interpretation of what it means to be furry.
Can we comment about how Balto as supposedly a 1st generation wolfdog should be absolutely towering over Steele. I know it's meant to portray Balto as the underdog in the story, but really he should be MUCH bigger than Steele and easily able to rip him to pieces. I remember rewatching this movie as a kid after knowing how big wolfdogs got and it annoyed me knowing that Balto was way smaller than he should have been.
Steele has always been my number 1 most hated cartoon dog. I mean, he went from your typical narcissistic bully to a remorseless monster that is willing to sabotage Balto's mission to return the medicine that'll save dying humans from a potentially fatal disease. Seriously, how sadistic is that?! For a long time, I thought Georgette from Oliver and Company was the absolute worst until this egotistical son of a b*tch (literally) took her place as my most hated cartoon dog. I really hope that after the events of the Balto film, Steele got banished from Nome for his crimes and later slaughtered by a pack of wild wolves. Good riddance.
did anyone else notice how the entire animated portion of the movie kind of reflects Balto as a character? Balto's personality is very straightforward for the most part with a few emotional turmoils mixed in His romance with Jenna is also very straightforward... And so is the story structure... Rosy's parents are devastated when Rosy is sick, which ends up becoming an underlying emotional turmoil of the movie just like Balto's inner wolf turmoil thing... Character archetypes in the movie are also all very clear and straightforward i think that's enough to understand what i mean
OmG it makes me so happy someone is talking about this underrated gem, the art, animation, and expression work is sTUNnING, the character writing is good (at least when it comes to the main characters), the music is beautiful, and I think its just a genuinely well-done film, even with the flaws EDIT: Also I hope you know the little memes n jokes that got thrown in here got real chuckles out of me, good job
The fact is wolves and wolfdogs can still bond with people so if you can have a connection with them they are NOT bad pets If you do have a wild animal for a pet you just need to understand their needs like the food they would normally eat, the fact that they shouldn't be indoors all the time, and how they might act around new people Wolves can actually be really sweet you just have to be really educated on them if you ever wanna be able to keep one or something similar to one
Loved this! I also grew up with Balto, Wolf’s rain and Spirit while getting into animation and that was what I had that I loved as a kid the most! Just watching those amazing tales and yes making me the furry artist (doodler) I am today! Lol
The real heroes of this story were a team led by a 12-year-old dog named Togo. There's a movie on Disney+ that follows it much more closely, appropriately called "Togo". Togo and his team, along with their musher, Leonhard Seppala, ran a total of 340 miles in order to retrieve the medicine during the relay. Balto and his team carried it only on the last stretch of the relay, a paltry 55 miles in comparison, the average journey for all teams (except for Togo) being a measly 31 miles. It's also worth mentioning that Seppala and his team had originally intended to run all the way to Fairbanks to retrieve the serum, and were informed of the relay at the end of the first day when they reached the waypoint house. Additionally, it is believed that Togo's team SHORTENED the overall length of the relay by a whole day by cutting across the frozen water of Norton Bay, TWICE, instead of going around it on land. Then, while on route from Ungalik to Shaktoolik, he discovered that they had added more sleds to the relay when he ACCIDENTALLY met with Henry Ivanoff, who was in possession of the serum. There, Seppala took possession of the serum on the third day of his run, and turned around, without stopping to rest, once again crossing Norton Bay, which was beginning to crack, and rested for six hours at Isaac's Point. They then continued their run before handing it over to Charlie Olson in Godovin, who then relayed it to Gunnar Kaasen, Balto's team, in either Solomon or Bluff, Alaska. Leonhard Seppala was a respected dog breeder, and he actually bred and owned both Togo and Balto. Although Seppala didn't want Togo at first, whom he tried to give away at least once, Togo eventually proved his worth as a lead dog, and as part of his team, whereas he claimed that Balto had never shown what it took to be a lead dog, and didn't even bring him because he believed he was too inexperienced for the journey. In fact, Balto actually co-led the sled with a more experienced dog named Fox, the news print cutting him out of the paper completely to avoid confusing readers. I'm not trashing Balto or this movie, as I barely remember it. I am simply pointing out and explaining what I've seen several others comment about, and that I'm rather passionate about.
Ah, the wolf kinnies’ Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron.. I’ve never seen Balto all the way through (I remember watching part of it in 1st grade) but the reach this movie had was insane.
"Balto and that movie you can quote to enjoy people killing themselves over who's the best good boy between him and Togo... and everyone wanted the deleted scene of Steele's death to be on screen (me too honestly, the basic animation was dark but sooo cool)" Jokes apart, my aunt has a wolfdog, I had the pleasure of being a pet-sitter for her and the very frst thing she said was: "Remember, he is NOT a dog, don't think you're dealing with one". Have to say, Biter (his name is Bob, but we call it Biter 'cause he took a big bite out of a thief trying to sneak in the house, the bastard even tried to sue my aunt for having a dangerous wild animal and got, I hope, laughed in the face by the cops while he was being arrested for trespassing and property damages) is even more educated than many dogs I've met while walking mine and it took less time to train him than two of mine, I was like: "Please sir (the trainer my aunt contacted), tell me your secret! I'm trying to teach mine that balls are to play and not to destroy the very same day I buy them, but it was a massacre!"😂
Balto is one of my favorite movies of all time, and I’m glad it’s more known than I originally thought. I love all the edits you put in throughout, they gave me a good chuckle. But I have to disagree that this movie is what brought about furries, and would more likely point to Disney’s Robin Hood (another of my favorite movies)
This is still my favourite film, even in revues I tear up when he howls. My imaginary friend that I created as a child went from a dog to a wolfdog thanks to this film, though she is still her own entity other wise and not an OC. I will always love Balto. After my imaginary friend became her own developed character over time, she became my wolfdog persona witch you can see in my icon.
I am considering the possibility that the artists knew what they were doing. Also, Jenna is Audrey Hapburn, literally. The dead actress was used as a model.
One fact about this movie that isn’t talked about enough is the fact that Robert Stevenhagen, the guy who designed and animated Jenna, was for some reason really obsessed with Audrey Hepburn. So much so that Jenna’s face is literally drawn to resemble Audrey Hepburn’s face.
27:30 "none of the other dogs get credit" The turest part in the movie. Balto is based on a true story of many sled dogs, multiple teams ran to save the town, however dog that ran the furthest and hardest was actually Togo who joined multiple different sled teams on the trek, but Balto almost always gets the credit because he was the lead dog of the final run.
I had a Husky/Shepherd/Wolf mix and he was a big fluffy goofball but if he needed to protect us, he was ready and you better watch out. He never bit anybody anyway, he lived a long happy life and the husky side of him always wanted out of the yard and he also LOVED to be outside in the dead of Michigan winters so we built a big enough doghouse for him so we could fit a bunch of hay in it and he would live out there during the day in winter, he had the garage attached to the yard with the side door open with his own mattress lol I miss that dog so much.
Really happy to see you review this movie. I loved it alot as well. I kinda disagree with Balto racing JUST to impress Jenna. You notice Rosie was the ONLY human that treated Balto like a dog as opposed to a half-breed outcast. In regards to that husky or malamute that got pushed around and dragged behind by Steele, it seems he's in the second spot because he's fast. As you see in the race, he came ahead of most of the dogs. What Star lacks in strength, he makes up for in by being faster than all the other dogs except Balto and Steele obviously. I will admit they don't do a good job conveying that.
When I was drawing the new universal-dreamworks movie called "Bad guys", I've been thinking what if I could make bad guys in the 1990's amblimation style where Mr. Wolf looks like balto, dianne fox looks like jenna, aleu, vixey, dr. fox, and the fox from the balto sequel and the others look like in this style. I love furries so much I want to have a furry costume on my own.
Had this movie on VHS when I was a little kid. Watched it so many times during the late 90s and early 2000s before the tape got torn out during a rewind in the old VCR. Next to Jurassic Park, this was one of my favorite movies.
Weird fun fact, apparently the real Balto and his owner did get lost in a blizzard while running the last leg of the run. And when it happened, the musher basically just sat back and trusted the dogs to find their way. Which they did! Which is really cool and makes me wonder how often mushers do that if they get lost.
A fact people miss about Muck and Luck (They are cubs) is they are voiced by Phil Collins.... Yes...the dude that did all the songs for Tarzan and Brother Bear... And the original performer of "In the Air Tonight" and "Land of confusion".
Not so sure if you know this yet, but originally steele was gonna die. You can find the deleted scene on youtube. Supposedly it was gonna happen after balto arrives with the medicine, balto gets treated as a hero which makes steele super angry that he decides to attack him out of anger, but steele accidentally gets his collar stuck on a lever stick which caused these doors underneath him to open and right above him a huge load of coal drops on steele which causes him to slip out of his collar and falls into the coal room causing his death. Obviously the movie's crew decided to not add that scene cuz it was way too dark.
Oh man, this film is STILL one of my favorites, even decades later! I was obsessed with Balto, dogsledding & wolves for a while, thanks to this movie, and once I learned about the true story of the 1925 Serum Run, it made me wish THAT was animated rather than the "let's make our hero different so he can triumph over adversity" and such. The true story of what happened definitely is much more dramatic & dark; thankfully, Disney+ made that Togo movie that gave another incredible true-life hero canine a chance to have his story told. Overall, great video! I definitely would like to see your take & opinions on the two Balto follow-ups, "Wolf Quest" & "Wings of Change" (especially the former; it's my favorite of the trilogy & it has more of a wolf calling than the OG Balto movie)!
The real event this movie is based on had an entire relay of sled teams over the 400 miles, and they recently made a live action movie I can't remember the name of about another dog involved in a more difficult stretch than the one the real Balto was involved with.
Tbh that foot thing was a loose loose either way, if he had yelped they would've assumed he was injured and probably wouldn't run him, or he woulda been injured for seemingly attacking steele who could do no wrong
Would you consider reviewing an anime called "Made in Abyss", the landscape is mesmerizing and the lore is interesting. It's about a town built around a giant Abyss filled with relics but cave raiders can only go a certain depth unless they can affected by the curse ( in short, the deeper you go down, the greater the curse will hit you when you try to get back up)
I liked this movie a lot as a kid. I still enjoy it, but the one thing I can't get behind is Balto's motivation, in that he's doing this less to save the town and more because he's thirsty for Jena's tail.
Fun Fact Alteori, both of Balto's parents are dead. Balto's father returned to the town when he realized that he couldn't survive in the wilderness with his mate. But they still visited each other as the weeks went by, until his mom returned to her mate's fallen corpse at the den site outside of the town. It's unknown how he died, but most believe that he was mauled by other wolves, as there were plenty of packs around the town. Without a partner, she was forced to return to her old pack, but they were nowhere to be found. After time went by, Balto's mother was killed by a lone wolf that was trying to take over the pack that the mom was trying to join. The wolf thought that Balto's mom was the mate of the alpha(So he killed her and left). Balto was old enough to eat meat when this happened, and he eventually ran into Boris when he was looking for his mother. *Her guiding spirit is more noticeable in "Balto 2".*
@@pinesapp I watched an analysis on the movie Balto. The woman who made it did background research on the movie. It was so long ago that I hardly remember it. You should be able to find it on UA-cam if it's still up by searching Balto's origins or something similar. I don't know the background information on Balto, but I assume it's legit. If you find the vid, check the description, it may have the sources in there.
23:44 when Balto falls; they show a frame where you can see that the man isn't strapped back in the sled. He's laying on the snow next to the sled. He must have slid along the cliff and stopped near the edge. It's just a fast scene so it's easy to miss. I love your videos. I'm just pointing this out.
Omggggggg!!!! I have watched this movie over 30 times and I have never noticed that!!!! I don't ever remember that being in the movie when I watched it. Was that something they added in later because I swear to God I never saw it
I liked this film when I was 8. Looking back at it now it's flawed in some parts, but overall it's a well animated adventurous film. It's my favorite film to involve wolves which are my favorite animals ☺
Hello Alteori. BALTO, haven't seen this movie in a long time. A beautiful movie. I love wolves. He has embrace his wolf side. Anyway, another great video, Alteori, I like it, see you in the next one.
Balto and Rudolph have the same plot. Both are misfits because they are different, run away, make friends, and come back to save the day all while taking place in a snowy atmosphere :-)
funfact: In 2011, Time magazine named the most heroic animal of all time: "The dog that often gets credit for eventually saving the town is Balto, but he just happened to run the last, 55-mile leg in the race. The sled dog who did the lion's share of the work was Togo. so basically. this movie is mostly fictional since Balto was A. an actual dog dog and not a wolf dog
@@HalaNixNyx Balto for me is codify as half native american, if he were a human that would be his racial identity. I mean is there, you decide if you want to see it or not.

Because Steele is voiced by Jim Cummings, the same guy who voiced characters like Winnie the Pooh for years (he might have retired from that role by now) I enjoy making fun of certain lines. Like using your best Pooh voice, say “Touch that honey pot, and I’ll tear you apart.”
In all seriousness though, the people shouldn't have added Balto to the team even if he won. The only thing that race proved was that he was the fastest. He never had any experience as a sled dog. They would have had to trained him up before allowing him on a dog sled team for something so important which I'm pretty sure they didn't have time to do. Despite realism, this movie was one of my go to dog movies in my childhood. For a movie that wasn't a Disney one, it had good animation and was memorable even if it didn't have any songs. The fact that it was based on a true story makes it even more heartwarming.
I know lots of people who have wolfdogs in very domesticated areas, they take them to pet stores and even do little events meet and greet with them to teach people about them. and like you said wolves are shy, they are skittish, they aren't really a threat to us because they'd much rather run away than ever fight. wolfdogs are considered domesticated in many places, as they should be, because a wolfdog would never be able to survive in the wild. they are not wild, they just have unique behaviors. it's extremely rare for a wolfdog to be a result of an actual wild wolf, wolfdogs are typically produced by breeding wolfdog to wolfdog, or dog to wolfdog. If you havent seen em before, Belmont the Wolfdog is amazing, I know the owner and she's really great for educating people on wolfdogs!
In truth the actual dogs didn’t have a very happy life after this until someone found them and treated them better. The real Balto was actually an ordinary husky. But this film was one of the things made me fall in love with Wolves, and helped me realise they are anything than vicious mindless killing machines. This film will always hold a special place in my heart and it’s sequels. I wish they do another one!
😆 ok at 11:00 someone pointed out that Balto closes the door with his foot. I didn't catch that and I guess the reason why I didn't is because it made NO sense for Balto's foot to be able to reach behind the door after he was already outside UNLESS he has the ability to extend his body like Mister Fantastic😆
23:44 oh and there is the man! I swear to goodness, I have watched this movie dozens of times and I have never seen that clip.
I swear it feels like they added it in recently. But it's still exciting to know that you can watch a movie repeatedly and still miss things.

Speaking of Dalmatians, its been said before by Nostalgia Critic, but Steele is basically reverse Cruella. A dog willing to kill children, as opposed to a human willing to kill puppies.
I never considered it from that perspective. how quaint.

Yeah, I got a real strong "Call of the Wild" vibe from this movie, too...
If you look at most of the dogs they still use are Alaskan huskies which look all over the place but you still see husky.

Ask yourself, ''What have I become?'', ''Will I ever find my place in the sun?'', ''Will I ever find Jerusalem?''. Furries are far away from the light, their mind shrouded with instinctive darkness of the material realm dominated by the archetype of the ego. Furries will never hold anything dear to their true egotistical selfish wrathful sarkic indignation. Unlike a leaf on the wind, a furry will never land on their place on the sun. Sarkics draining the light of Sophia bringing upon the archons. You shackle the Elpis brought upon by aeons from the tree of life. You drain the pneuma upon the ethos of the Pleroma. Would the tide of change go in favor to the power of archons? The lycanthrope flourishes free in the modern age with no regards to the pneuma of the aeons. The lycanthrope is free to spread their dominion upon the pneumatics. The Pleroma holds against the horde of hylics unleashed upon by androgynous archons forces under the Demiurge. The lycanthrope is a seducer like an archon to normalize savagery of the flesh, the lowest of the mind, the instinctive level, the Sarkic furries. The sarkic abomination of the Demiurge. What wrath shall thee unsleash upon the material world? Lycanthrope abomination subjugation of the instinct upon the divine intellect. The Sagrada Familia is an epitome of the power of the divine intellect gifted by the aeons. You and your lycanthropic kinds are unknowingly shrouding the gift of the divine intellect in humanity by spreading lies made by the archons to which you conceive to your marriage with the flesh. You are at the far end of the tether and when your thoughts won't fit together you'll need to deprogram your mind. It's like seeing a new day. Just what you need to make you nearer to the light. Ekklesiastikos Ainos pneuma rejuvinated by the star dust beyond the Material realm. You are a gross group of fetishists of animals. You have made a gross cultural materialist perversion of Gaia's flock. A core part of the consumption crisis that furries exploit is the perceived lack of sentience of animals. This subjugation of archonic furries over animals that can't express to humans their thoughts is a way for furries to take the image of animals and replace them to become one with the demiurge. The profound blocking of genetic diversity done by furries to nature to ensure that humans destroy nature and furries would now completely take the image of Gaia's flock and fulfill their sarkic desires. The unprincipled exception of archonic transcription to tolerate a hierarchy of The Loyal Society of the Flesh. The metabrain of the archonic lycanthropes pervades society to enshroud the inherited light through metagenesis locking human psyche that would guarantee reign of the Egotistical self that the Shadow hold inside our repressed self that reach back to the realm of our animal ancestors. The furry guarantees such a transformation to occur and continue the rule of the Demiurge to block the light from reaching the Pleroma. The principle of natural selection does not require it, selection can operate rapidly. The furries are a psychological rapid evolutionary deviated offshoot from the Homo Sapiens Sapiens species naturally selected by archonic forces. Geneticist Goldschmidt continued, every once in a while a macromutation might, by sheer good fortune, adapt a furry to a new mode of life, a "hopeful monster" in his terminology. Macroevolution proceeds by the rare success of these hopeful monsters, not by an accumulation of small changes within populations. The mutant gene produces its effect by changing the rates of partial processes of development. These significant change of genetic phenotype causes the individual to new behavioral changes. Response to external stimuli is drastically changed by macromutations to account for change in the phenotype of the individual. This drastic change leads to the fulfillment of the increase of the darkness inscribed into an individual. The individual loses their control on their behavior which their environmental influences, in this case fandom obsession, takes over and becomes the primary role of the individual's character, metacognition, evaluation of social constructs, perception of reality, fictional precedence over thoughts and feelings, and losing the ability to distinguish different unique precedences. These psychological change of character of an individual is due to environmental and genetic factors inhibiting normal development of the furry. Why would different partial processes of development be a significant factor to a species? Of what possible use are the imperfect incipient stages of useful structures? What good is half a jaw or half a wing? The concept of preadaptation provides the conventional answer by permitting us to argue that incipient stages performed different functions. The purpose of behavioral changes on the Homo Sapiens Sapiens in regards to the creation of an established preconceived behaviors is that these major adaptational changes in behavior is that it serves as a purpose to stall the creative useful potential behavior of the individual to the point that they unknowingly use material and informational capacity and to waste these resources in order for it to be diverted for selfish and anti developmental capacities that which their logos is diverted to the self which makes them economical and genetic burdens to both society and nature due to egotistical restrictions brought upon by environmental and genetic factors. The archons permeate these genetic phenotypes through increasing hormonal inputs of the individual. The environmental factors that change perception and behavior of an individual is because of the creation of artifacts, any medium furry fandom related, that imbues perception of hormonal change that affects metacognitively only to those whose genetic development has been altered through genetic macromutation. The effect of these genetic and environmental changes to a furry´s behavior is behavioral isolation due to speciation with their egotistical changed cognition. Behavioral isolation occurs when populations of the same species begin to develop different behaviors that are not recognized or preferred by members in another population. This so called behavioral isolation of sympatric speciation that creates changes to an individual from the same member of a species in the same geographic feature. Because there is no mate recognition between a furry and non-furry due to their behavioral isolation and their genetic and environmental deviations and differences. Слава Україні! Смерть пухнастим загарбникам.
This movie is based on a true story!
RIP, James Horner.
Very loosely based on a true story ;)
Who here remembers this movie baby god passed the time when I had the dumb school
the only part of the movie that it shares with the real story is the name and the setting. nothing else.
Very very loosely
yet it isnt true XD
Funny story, my grandpa raised a wolf dog from pup to old.
He picked him from a farm and named him Thing and grew up to be so big he scared cops in a parking lot. But he loves icecream, kids and anything small as a mouse
Having seen the movie The Thing, I kinda wonder if that inspired his name? X3
That's a really neat story, too! Quite a unique experience you got! :3
@@jamesgizasson I had no idea but that's a good point!^^
He never did bark only growled if threaten
I also could not stand the polar bears and for the longest while I did not even realize they were polar bears until it was mentioned.
@@Alteori i think they did overcome it from one of the sequels. But I want to pretend they don't exist, because I liked the ending of the first film.
I think maybe in that scene they thought Balto was being agressive/reactive to Steele since they all think Steele is like the perfect dog
still waiting for cinemasins to do an episode on this movie just for things like this LMAO
This movie is the best thing I stumbled upon my early teens. My aunt thought I was an absolute weirdo. But the thing is this film brought me so much happiness when I felt sad. Rosie accepting Balto really touched my heart.
Man Balto was one of my favorite movies growing up as well. I remember how scared I was when the Bear attacked him. Such a great movie
I totally forgot about this movie! I loved it so much.
"It's sexy time, let's go!" That almost killed me!
Also, Alteori now looks like an adorable Temtem.
Man that art and 2D animation still look great to this day.
Good graphics and good animation doesn't mean good story telling. Unless you believe it does and that makes Michael Bay is the greatest director EVER!
Yea I agree, especially with that animation when the musher falling after the team of dogs slide down the ice thing.
@@imnotahippie22bro no one was talking about the story telling, even though the story is really good.
I've had a actual wolf before and she was the single most friendly animal I've met she was more friendly than any dog I've ever met
You more than likely had a northern breed, not a wolf.
You sure she wasn’t a wolfdog, not a pure wolf? Or like the person above me said, a northern breed that resembled a wolf?
@The Dark Overlord
Depends a lot on how it’s raised. Early humans domesticated them after all and we wouldn’t have if they were unfriendly monsters.
@@magnarcreed3801 yeah but we do that for hundreds of year not instantly you might tame a wolf but you can't domesticated them
@@RahmatrianZ
I’m very aware the difference.
The white wolf was confirmed to be his mother in the second movie.
Even in the first movie, Steele says "hey Balto, I here's a message for your mother" and then howls like a wolf.
My wife is a furry, and this is one of her favorite movies, so I can confirm that the title is pretty accurate.
Tamed or domesticated both have instincts.
@@magnarcreed3801 Different types and intensities
Siegfried and Roy's tigers where tamed and I think everyone knows how that turned out.
24:31 the most beautiful scene and the scene that probably convince people to give wolves a second chance.
Lol
Oh yeah 😂
@@Alteori hey Alteori could you please review 100% wolf a family friendly werewolf movie and you will love it
Yeah Balto didn’t do it
I have to agree
[Edit] Also Peg Pete from Goof Troop and Sylvia Marpole from Extreme Goofy Movie
I'm a grown man and when I'm having really bad days I watch this movie. It started my love of wolves when i first saw it all those years ago.
What this film does is tell me there are no standards, no perfect images I must hold myself to. I am my own person.
How an animated movie hits this home harder than any real film I really don't know
Balto was my childhood and I love the fandom to this day ^^
Oml tysm for the heart Alteori!
But yes it was pure childhood. As well as for my love for wolves, canines etc
but thanks for the amazing video!
Definitely one of my favorite films as a kid!
Also, it was the film which introduced me to Jim Cummings as a voice actor
I remember that I loved this movie so much that a stuffed animal I had gotten at christmas a few months prior (that was named after my grandparent's dog) was renamed immediatley after I saw the movie. And then a few years later I proceded to name a webkinz animal the same name, so there was Balto and Balto59 and literally when I was talking about it I would call it Balto59 to my family (and I still do).
As a furry, the Disney animated Robin Hood is what "birthed" me 🤣
A good choice but I personally blame Space Jam and StarFox Adventure for me lol
Robin Hood is the real birth of Furries, anything that came after pretty much sealed the deal. It's been stated and everything.
UwU I do admit that I did like that movie when I was younger.
For me it wasn't even movies I literally met a whole gang of furries on my bus in 5th grade and I drew a dragon and someone freaked out like OMG IS THAT A DUTCHIE bc it had feathers
I did not know what that was at the time
And yeah after hanging out with them I ended up being a Furry lmao
@@kittysoftpaws3677 that's fuckin sick man 😄
1:20 Fun fact: In the German dub, the actor who voiced Steele also did the voice for Scar.
Thanks so much for the feedback 😊 maybe in the future 😅 I think I did touch on Bambi but I don't remember to what capacity. Have a great day 😃
It seems to me that Steel would be able to easily outrun the sled dogs, because he didn't have to pull a sled.
It's like how swimmers train by wearing baggy pants to slow them down and build up strength, but on the day of the competition they wear a swimsuit that conforms to their body so there is as little drag as possible.
Oh dear god I totally forgot about this movie, I loved the fuck out of this shit and it was what made me be what I am today.

Can we comment about how Balto as supposedly a 1st generation wolfdog should be absolutely towering over Steele. I know it's meant to portray Balto as the underdog in the story, but really he should be MUCH bigger than Steele and easily able to rip him to pieces. I remember rewatching this movie as a kid after knowing how big wolfdogs got and it annoyed me knowing that Balto was way smaller than he should have been.
i actually didn't expect you to also bring up some education about wolfdogs in this video! makes me love this video even more :,D
Balto's personality is very straightforward for the most part with a few emotional turmoils mixed in
His romance with Jenna is also very straightforward...
And so is the story structure...
Rosy's parents are devastated when Rosy is sick, which ends up becoming an underlying emotional turmoil of the movie just like Balto's inner wolf turmoil thing...
Character archetypes in the movie are also all very clear and straightforward
i think that's enough to understand what i mean
Steele: Touch that box..and I’ll tear you apart..
Me: *Touches the box*
I saw Balto’s statue in NYC way back when I was sixteen. That dog is a hero.
Nikki, Kaltag, and Star are just Steele's yes-men until they don't have to be. Still love this movie!
OmG it makes me so happy someone is talking about this underrated gem, the art, animation, and expression work is sTUNnING, the character writing is good (at least when it comes to the main characters), the music is beautiful, and I think its just a genuinely well-done film, even with the flaws
EDIT: Also I hope you know the little memes n jokes that got thrown in here got real chuckles out of me, good job
The fact is wolves and wolfdogs can still bond with people so if you can have a connection with them they are NOT bad pets
If you do have a wild animal for a pet you just need to understand their needs like the food they would normally eat, the fact that they shouldn't be indoors all the time, and how they might act around new people
Wolves can actually be really sweet you just have to be really educated on them if you ever wanna be able to keep one or something similar to one
Loved this! I also grew up with Balto, Wolf’s rain and Spirit while getting into animation and that was what I had that I loved as a kid the most! Just watching those amazing tales and yes making me the furry artist (doodler) I am today! Lol
*reads the title*
"Why would you say something so controversial yet so brave?" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
Great movie btw ❤❤❤❤
"Balto and that movie you can quote to enjoy people killing themselves over who's the best good boy between him and Togo... and everyone wanted the deleted scene of Steele's death to be on screen (me too honestly, the basic animation was dark but sooo cool)"
Jokes apart, my aunt has a wolfdog, I had the pleasure of being a pet-sitter for her and the very frst thing she said was: "Remember, he is NOT a dog, don't think you're dealing with one".
To be fair, Hepburn was pretty damn good looking.
Balto is one of my favorite animated movies, with Spirit, Brother Bear, The Lion King, i´m so glad you talked about it Alteori 😁

This is the movie that got me into wolves, love them so much
I had a Husky/Shepherd/Wolf mix and he was a big fluffy goofball but if he needed to protect us, he was ready and you better watch out.
This commentary is pure gold I’m loving it
Really happy to see you review this movie.
I had a wolfdog. She was actually the sweetest thing ever. Did not like other people than me much though
Love the “pack”, not strangers XD
Steel looks like what you would get if you mix scar and a skunk with the attitude of Gaston

Thanks for posting this on my 22nd birthday, Alteori! Love you!
Oh wow.

I love how adult you get with this kids movie XD
Kevin Bacon nailed how to act with his voice.
“And facts don’t care about your feelings.”

It's about a town built around a giant Abyss filled with relics but cave raiders can only go a certain depth unless they can affected by the curse ( in short, the deeper you go down, the greater the curse will hit you when you try to get back up)
I LAUGHED SO HARD with your critique of the scene where balto's foot gets stepped on omg
*Her guiding spirit is more noticeable in "Balto 2".*
wait is all this confirmed?
@@pinesapp I watched an analysis on the movie Balto. The woman who made it did background research on the movie. It was so long ago that I hardly remember it. You should be able to find it on UA-cam if it's still up by searching Balto's origins or something similar. I don't know the background information on Balto, but I assume it's legit. If you find the vid, check the description, it may have the sources in there.
@@b1oodymyth14 okay thanks I'll look it up
23:44 when Balto falls; they show a frame where you can see that the man isn't strapped back in the sled.
Was that something they added in later because I swear to God I never saw it
@@Alteori Glad i could help. Best of luck to you and your videos.
Exactly 😃 when I found that out I was like, "So ironically, Balto is Steele, taking all the glory" 😂
@@Alteori yup! XD
Hey, the Native american codign wouldn't work if he was a dog dog, so we can ignore that
@@rommdan2716 ?
@@HalaNixNyx Balto for me is codify as half native american, if he were a human that would be his racial identity.
I mean is there, you decide if you want to see it or not.
19:00 that face is the look of realization kicking in. like he is already mid air rushing towards a bear. he realized mid jumping that he fucked up and then him getting hit makes it funniern

"Balto" is based on a real story! Irl, Balto was a purebred Siberian Husky.
Great video Alteori
I remember watching over and over again
Because Steele is voiced by Jim Cummings, the same guy who voiced characters like Winnie the Pooh for years (he might have retired from that role by now) I enjoy making fun of certain lines. Like using your best Pooh voice, say “Touch that honey pot, and I’ll tear you apart.”
Balto was definitely one of my favorite movies! It inspired me a lot, actually
Wow, been a hot minute since I've seen anything about this movie. This was one of my favorite movies growing up too.
26:13 Here's a helpful hint - stalactite has a C for 'Ceiling', stalagmite has a G for 'Ground'.
I loved this movie as a kid but your commentary completely made it into a comedy 😭 I love it
I loved this movie and still do! Good Childhood memories ❤❤❤
When it comes to the guy not being put up on the sled, I would blame Steele for that. His pride nearly killed many people that day.
