I worked on these when they were brand new in 97/98. Always had a soft spot for the SR they were good fun little cars in stock trim. TTE spoiler and backbox and speedline safari wheels...that was it really. Very rare now.
Any information on this conversion I.e wiring driveshafts and hearing alot about cutting the chassis which I don't fancy anything would be much appreciated
If you're ever in the west midlands. Give Mick Wilkes from wacky racers a shout. Really nice bloke. Oh and he's got a 500bhp Vauxhall Viva van from the 70s. That's a real sleeper. It was on Fifth Gear a while back. He also took it drag racing in the states where he won the spirit of drag week award. You can search the car up on UA-cam if you just put in drag week British invasion.
@@mypinis Pretty sure the glanza headlights are the exact same size considering a lot of Starlet owners have put the crystal clear lights instead of the normal starlet headlights and they're straight fit

mates just bought a black SR and what an awesome car it is! full exhaust, decat ect still doesn't feel as fast as my Micra super s tho ;) would be funny to see you review a Micra at some point Jamie!
I would love to get one as a first car and put the glanza body kit on it. After driving for a while I’d engine swap it with something a little more powerful.
Wanted one of these for ages for a first car. I bought a 2 door e12 Corolla instead and I love that car but I’m starting to get, well a bit of bored it. Lovely modified car but I’m too used to it now.
I'm being given a starlet Sr and I want to make it into a touge car, what easy N/A engine swaps are possible? I don't really like turbos so don't want the glanza lump in the car.
I have the other 20v swapped sr in the UK. I had it on a weight brindge and It was 940kgs with full interior, spare wheel and full tank of fuel. The spare alone is 17kgs!
SRs were sold in Ireland. But noboby really bothered with them because there was ship loads off JDM GT Turbos, GIs, Glanza V & S coming in instead. We were after clicking on to the Starlets potential along time before the Brits.
@@265justy i think you're missing what I'm saying, im well aware that there are other Sr's and 4age swapped kp's etc. But this is/was 1 of 2 4age swapped SR's in the uk. 🤦♂️

He must think the UK petrol that is lower octane than Japanese petrol somehow gives the engine more power. On UK fuel these engine tend to dyno at 140 - 145 bhp at the flywheel.

Custom engines mounts and the inner arches need modifying to fit the engine and box, custom driveshafts too, the wiring abit involved if your keeping the stock dash and interior etc
I have an AE111 with a blacktop 4age as my project car and looked into doing an NA build. 170 hp is achievable with aggressive cams, but you sacrifice bottom end significantly. I've ended up changing the internals and running an SC14 supercharger off a toyota Estima, hoping for 180 ish WHP.
I see where the confusion is. Brake horse power isn't the horse power at the brakes of the car, it is the horsepower at the crankshaft. The term "brake" is actually referring to a device that was used for measuring horsepower before the dynamometer was invented. A "brake" would be used to apply a load to an engine and hold it at a specified speed, then the torque output could be recorded and used to determine the power output of the engine at the crankshaft.
The 20v wasnt found in any uk car and not everyone has heard on the newer ae111 (corolla) levin. So to say its from a Corolla is fine, plus in japan they got the corolla gt 20v 😉
I build one about 10 years ago, it was the EP70 though, a bit lighter and with a modified Silvertop engine with 174hp 😋 I really miss that car, but sold it for a pile of money. See a video here ua-cam.com/video/cmsrLD7h8VE/v-deo.html
Nah. F20c. Stock 240hp 9000rpm and on top of that the scream of ITB's(with more power ofcourse). If you'd really start tuning the f20c it could be taken to more than 300whp. Ofcourse k24/20 frankenstein would be cool too but even a stock F20c in this car would be mental.
k20 type r engines are about as expensive as an F20c. More readily available for sure but same expense. Additionally it would be a lot more expensive(even if you would find a cheap k20R) to pull 240hp from and k20 than just have a stock F20c. If we are talking about high horsepower N/A applications then a K24/20 would be the better option. If forced induction then it wouldn't matter if it was f20c or k20 as both can handle high boost. F20c has forged internals stock and can handle around 700-800hp stock block.
And don't get me wrong. Im all about the k-life. I've owned a 2.4 CL9 accord and Fn2 type r. I currently have a -02 s2000. I've been thinking of mating my s2k with k24/20 frankenstein with big cams etc just because it responds to mods better. But stock for stock with a budget id stick a F20C on this just for the high 9000rpm and 240hp stock. Surely with a light car like this you could just go with a stock K20a2 or K20z4, k24a3.. or K20z1 etc etc and be good to go but 40hp more is 40hp more :D. Additionally i doubt that toyota engine is actually making 170hp to the crank with those ITB's sucking in all that hot air.
I worked on these when they were brand new in 97/98. Always had a soft spot for the SR they were good fun little cars in stock trim. TTE spoiler and backbox and speedline safari wheels...that was it really. Very rare now.

I really, really do like this! Sounds wicked too
A glanza bonnet would do wonders for those itb's 👍
but then people would think its a glanza... and would ruin the sleeperness.. 2 cold air feeds would do it

Is the 4A-GE a direct fit to the starlet??
The guy needs a bonnet scoop for the air for the throttle body's.
Kjb GTI mk5 93 how about no because when it started to rain he wouldn't end up with block fill with water...
If it had the 6speed gearbox you'd see the real potential of the blacktop
Brings back fond memories. :)

There are a couple of starlet with 20v in Jamaica
Nice I'm right now building a awd manual 4age starlet in nz should be mean
Great swap. 2zz would be an absolute animal in that close to 800kg?
dufunk10 they’re 860/880kg if i remember. GT’s are lighter.
Yea I echo this. 2ZZ would have been even better and with the starlet being so light the lack of torque from the 2ZZ wouldn’t be an issue.

only 170hp? the glanza turbo engine can do the same with just a mild tune...
But with a slight tune, the blacktop 20v can achieve 200hp...
