Front engined, RWD & agility makes this car so easy to drive. If only I had a closed off mountain pass, this would put a smile on my face from start to finish.

Man that boxy design just tickles me in all the right places. Well done video too! I enjoyed it, and have subscribed to your channel :) One small thing I will mention since you (mis)used it so much - hope not to be seen as too much of a party poop haha. The car is not retro, it's vintage. Retro is something out of style (which this is deffo not!) or something made with heavy styling cues to things from the past (new vw beetle, bmw mini etc). Vintage is the real deal original with some decades on it's back.

man, i knew they had a lot of stuff they sold. but i didnt know costco sold roll cages. next time i go shopping, im going to see what other kinds of aftermarket car parts they got. maybe i can get my coilovers from them or even some rods. i only thought they had tires, but who would have known they had turbos and even roll cages.. it would be convenient, since like i siad all be shopping already. j/k i had to try and make a joke. but i dont like when people make fun of others, weather it be looks, what they think or how they talk or accent.

+PerformanceCars ah that's great, well my brother is a huge fan of landrovers as my dad has a couple. This is going to sound so uncool I know, it's nowhere near the caliber of cars you drive but it's a Peugeot 306 dturbo, it's completely unique though, a lot of time, effort and knowledge has gone into it. It's a 1.9 mechanical injection pump diesel, running a (low) 19psi currently. It's also completely redone in a military grade olive drab. It's real fun to drive. I would love to go to the track a lot more than I do but due to work and working weird hours I can't. The last show I went to was French car show which was incredible.

+PerformanceCars well he likes defenders the most, my dad built a hybrid turbo'd and charge cooled 200tdi which he's now sold but he did love that. Ah thanks! That was just before yeah. It's great fun to drive. It does off boost, but it's currently set so that when I'm on boost it doesn't smoke so it's burning efficiently. I can definitely push it a little further but it took me 5 days of adjusting the screw and tuning the pump to get it right. It's certainly my pride and joy.

I was a teenager in the early 80's so cars like these were cheap and easy to come by once they were 10 years old. I've owned 3 of these and I cannot understand why people bang on about them being so marvelous. They are nothing special at all, actually quite slow, with about 120hp driving through a live axle. Buy an MX5, they're far cheaper, have much better suspension, and perform exactly the same in stock form.

oil temperature...? hey, that's not just any ol' oil temp gauge... thats an Omori gauge you glazed right over! I've got Omori white face gauges in my car in 45mm... they are cool, kinda rare and they ain't cheap

that motor might come from the ae92 but that's not the latest 4age, the latest 4age 16v is the redtop small port and it has a spark plug cover ( the blue top doesn't), the latest 4age 20v is the black top ( silver top 20v right before that).

Hi, you are right in saying that not having the filters will not stop dust from getting into the engine and causing damage. But I believe that race car engines with ITB's were designed for a handful of races before being rebuilt. I can only assume that this car was used for races in Japan. Hope that explains it a bit.

I have an 86 GTS with a 20v swap at about 120hp, and trust me, you'll have an absolute blast with anything over 100hp. 200hp is way more than it needs to be fun
an AE86 would be miserable with 350bhp.
Getting that kind of power out of a 4AGE or even 3GSE would be impossible, even the formula atlantic 4AGE (of which there are a handful of documented swaps into an AE86) only makes about 240bhp at 10k rpm (and costs upwards of $15k). You could try turbo-charging or doing a different engine swap entirely, but at that point why even have the AE86 chassis, it would just be for looks.
Even if you did manage to get that kind of power into the car (be it through swap or turbocharging) it would be nearly undriveable as the chassis simply isn't engineered to handle that much stress. You could reinforce it by spot welding and adding a 7-point cage but then the car wouldn't be street legal, and even if you drove it anyway it wouldn't feel or behave anything like the AE86 at all.
What makes the car great is its balance and simplicity. It is super cool you are so enthusiastic about these awesome japanese classics, but I recommend you learn a little bit more about the cars and develop realistic expectations because right now you are setting yourself up for disappointment.
heck, even the 70hp single cam sr5 is great fun...

Unfortunately, the Ultra tacho isn't the same as Takumi's Tacho which limits to 13,000 RPM. I guess his 4AG engine was race built so therefore the 13k rev limit was exclusive to his Trueno and not other Trueno's and Levins. Sorry, but without the 13,000 RPM engine rev limiter, bragging rights against V-Tech die hards, Rotaries and even the EVO enthusiasts are short lived in this particular AE86.
HI, I would love to come across a 4AGE that can rev to 13k safely all day long. I'm pretty sure race engines, similar to the one in the cartoon series, have to be rebuilt every so often as they are running much higher stress levels etc.
Takumi's AE86 was only revved to 13k as a final desperate effort to beat his other Trueno Opponent in the final race. I doubt you'll ever find an AE86 that will rev to 13k all day long. I'm sure you'd find one that can rev to 13k, but be prepared for a blown engine shortly after getting there. Since receiving the Race engine in the AE86, Ryousuke limited the engine RPM band to 11k until the final episode where he removed it to give Takumi the advantage necessary to beat a very formidable opponent. Technically the race came down to tyre management to the end. But had his opponent not been so cocky and give him the early lead, Takumi would have lost for sure, even to a lower revving AE86 sedan.

Hi, there are two versions of the AE86 - the Trueno and the Levin. The engine and a few other handling parts etc. are what's different between the AE85 and AE86.

DuckPlayzGames the ae86 came as both the levin and trueno they are exactly the same except from the headlights. The ae85 also came as both levin and trueno since it uses the same chassis it just doesn't have the same suspension or engine and doesn't have an lsd.

This is a Levin AE86. The AE85 has a SOHC engine while AE86 has DOHC.
There are two versions of the AE86: Levin & Trueno. Most noticeable differences were the headlights.
