Lyrics: (Intro) To get my happiness I had done everything, But had done nothing to be blamed and accused of The sound of footsteps became louder every day, Then I noticed the fact there was no time I was a believer in life to be myself always, And was asking whether I would be alive Give me a reason why not to adopt in this way, Or judge me to be guilty of so many incurable sins Tell me why, or why not. Complaining way too much, Maybe I overlooked something fatal for me... The whole world was at a complete standstill, And I was in fetters at the mercy of the mob The silent warning became louder every day Then I kept pretending not to hear Its meaning had been in the eyes of beholder all along It had grown dark before I found a sign "Among the nonsense tragedies, what on earth you are looking for? You only have to be honest to yourself and your own fate." Tell me why, or why not. Complaining way too much, Maybe I overlooked something fatal for me There is nobody who knows there will be nobody Except for me, all the world has gone mad... The theme behind this story is learning how to forgive yourself from all the wrong you’ve done. All the kids did some sort of horror in their own way and for their own reasons. At the end of the series everyone realizes it’s been a loop all along and it’s up to them to recognize their sins and to try and be a better person in a fresh time line. It’s all about recognizing you’ve done bad but you have the power to fix it by starting to forgive yourself. Only then can you heal
SPOILER: not really their sin when they were influenced by Takano who injected in the community of Hinamizawa the lethal disease. But that is what the feeling of committing a sin is like. You know you are not completely responsible for the wrong that you did; nevertheless, you were the one who did it, and you feel sinful for it. I really love how this song portrays this subtle feeling.
The final scene of the first season is so unnerving, just hearing Rika's voice, seeing the vacant Hinamezawa and hearing this song, it just all fit perfectly.
About the same level as One Punch Man's season 1 ending song; a romantic like song after a spectacular battle, very contrasting with the super heroic opening song.
I remember when I was in 4th year high school, my sister and I sang this song in front of our class. Our teacher asked us if it was a religious song. I can`t tell her that it came from an anime with so much gore on it. LOL
It`s a very interesting horror anime and the op and ed song is really related to it so it`s a catch. Just finish it until the end, it`s really interesting. :)
I've listen to this song for many years and not once have I noticed until tonight that Rena was standing in the reflection at 1:29. It gave me chills...this anime still finds ways to frighten me after all these years.

It is astounding how much they captured the real image of Shirakawa-go in this series. If you go there you can visit every place animated in Higurashi.
