Employment is strong. Because an industry slows and lays off people doesn’t mean the economy is weak. Other industries are growing. Adapt or die in a free market economy. Unfortunate for some for sure.
I’ve decided to pretty much keep our 2021 Highlander forever. I have no desire for a 4-cylinder, much less a turbo. I have no idea why Toyota tried to change what was a winning drivetrain. The only Highlander I could buy is a ‘22 with less mileage. Sad.
CAFE and/or similar regulations in major markets (e.g., the EU), it's got to be. I doubt there is a big consumer push towards these "efficient" small displacement turbocharged monstrosities.
I think you might have that dreaded 8-speed in it. Good luck with it once the problems start. That solenoid pack was over $2000 to replace it a couple years ago. Hopefully you got a good one.
I got 07 Corolla. 170k miles. Both Alternator and A/C Compressor both went out this year. Normal lifetime is around 10 years for those parts. Got 17 years - Quality 🏆🎖
@@plainsman9717 That’s why I said to check back in 200,000 miles. Then the car will be at 250,000. That’s about when some problems show up. But they should make it 300,000. With proper maintenance.
The XV80 Camry looks great and beside the Toyota eCVT has nothing to do with how most CVTs are. If you take the Toyota eCVT apart you'd see uses a planetary gearset with a couple of electric motors-generators and actual gears, but no belts, no pulleys, no torque converters, no multi-plated clutches and whatever other crap they usually have. I mean it is indeed a infinitely variable ratio transmission that could be adjusted continuously (hence the CVT in the name), but there's not much in common there besides the name. They've solved the MG (motor-generator) and power inverter cooling issues ages ago. Yes, you get a complicated system with a lot of physiological fluids, if you will, for the powertrain to worry about - the ICE oil, the hybrid transmission oil, the engine coolant & the power inverter coolant. But if you do change them on time and drive conservatively - the hybrid Toyota will work for you. There is a reason taxi fleets around the world love the hybrid Toyotas.
Some UA-cam guy commented that he knows someone who works at the Toyota factory, he said they don't have skilled old timers and the crankshafts were made with too tight a fit with the main bearings, so they're idiots and didn't check blueprints and motors are tearing themselves apart.
If people have a modern car with backup cameras and other safety features. But still cause accidents backing up at 2mph in a parking lot.... they shouldnt be aloud to drive or exist for that matter.
The new Landcruiser 300 series V6 diesel twin turbo has conrod bearing failures reported here in Australia. Particularly if they are towing at higher speeds for long periods. An engine rebuilder shows a video comparing the bearing sizes between the old V8 twin turbo and the new engine. The new ones are almost half the width, the new engine produces more power and torque. 🇦🇺
Bought a ‘24 4Runner TRD ORP. Peak Toyota. Simple, reliable, and will last me 20 years with good maintenance. Hate to see what’s happening with the newer Gen trucks.
Toyota IS different than anyone else!! They just make mistakes SOMETIMES.... Unlike other car manufacturers who make mistakes EVERY 5-6 years when introducing a new car model! 😉
I would also partially blame the EPA for tightening their standards. If they were looser, Toyota would probably still be making their legendary V8 engines
You should read more about engine torque and efficiency. The V8 is one of the least efficient designs in automotive history. Instead of thinking about impressing hot rod guys, consider the economical and reliability possibilities. A 2 liter 3 cylinder engine in a 2000 pound compact FWD truck would get 45mpg and have a range no Tesla will come close to. We haven't ever had a correct car industry because EPA didn't have enough influence. Influence from actual engineers. Let go of the V8 fantasies. It's kinda on the verge of a rainbow 🌈 golf clubhouse group showers kinda thing to still obsess about V8 and big displacement.
@@Greg-io1ip I'd like to see the 3-cylinder do a million miles over 20 years like the old Toyota UZ. The point of the 1UZ-FE/2UZ-FE/3UZ-FE and to an extent the URs that replaced the UZs was durability and low-rpm torque rather than maximizing thermal efficiency. A A25A-FXS is far more efficient (41.2% ECEC according to Toyota), but there is no way a hybrid car with the A25A-FXS (e.g., a hybrid highlander or a sienna) will outlast a Tundra/TLC/Sequoia with the UZ. How much sense it makes if you want to drive, say, 1M miles, really depends on how much the fuel costs. If the fuel is cheap it makes sense to have drive the said miles with an "eternal" V8. If the fuel is expensive it makes sense to use 2-3 dynamic force hybrids. The new turbocharged Toyota & Nissan large suvs/trucks that had something like 5.6 or 5.7L V8s in their previous generations will be competing, with, say, the Ford trucks that still have the NA V8s as one of the options. Time will sure tell.
@@Greg-io1ip Efficiency is overrated. Long term reliability with performance is more important. Forced induction(turbocharging/supercharging) is totally unreliable, more complicated, requires more expensive care, maintenance & repairs. Production of naturally aspirated large displacement engines like V8 needs to continue forever. Dont even try to begin using climate change is as next reason because its fake.
Scotty you are not talking about Ford who are recalling 1.3 million truck for bad engines and Ford is looking the other way while Toyota is replacing those engines.
I worked in Boston for AT+T for years. The old timers taught us to back into the space, so when we went home, we could drive right out of the work site, and in the old places we rewired. IBEW baby! Especially after we had a few beers after work. Made life that much easier. I back into spaces everywhere I go as a habit now.
Never buy the first edition when a car company changes everything including the drivetrain ...... The buyer is the R/D for the company doing it for free
I have a friend that bought a 2024 Corolla and lifetime warranty through the dealer. They said don’t bring it in for 10,000 miles. I said that’s ridiculous. Change it every 5000 the dealer wants them to bring it in for 10,000 miles. I heard other stories about that that’s why the motors are blowing up metal shavings 😂
That's only turbo engines. And yeah, I got a 2024 corolla made in japan, they said the same thing about the oil, hell with that, I change it much more often ohan that
You change the oil in any vehicle no matter what it is at 3,000 miles and you only use full synthetic oil. Why is it so hard for people to understand. Why do people think that they are smart and can go more than 3,000 miles between oil changes? All you are doing is making sure that your engine does not last as long as it would if you change the oil more often
Read my lips, Do Not Buy A Newer Endless Money Pits Toyotas and Lexuses with a 2.4 turbo and 3.5 Twin Turbo and 3.3 Twin turbo diesel, unless get a old or new 2017 or 2018 Toyota and Lexus The older Toyota are going up with best quality, but newer 2025 any Toyota any Lexus are going downhill and garbage quality plastic cheap made, a thousands of dollars to fix a new engine with 2025 even with a warranty, the dealers will reject your warranty and pay for them
Scotty, I took your advice and bought a 2022 Toyota Tacoma because it was the last one with the V6. I did not want the two turbo four-cylinder. Do you know of any issues that I might have with this truck? Thanks a lot for all your hard work, sir.
Got a 2023 v6 .. have a weird noise (rattle/knock) along some vibration that happens time to time very concerning. dealer can’t recreate the issue .. says it’s fine. seems to happen when going uphill and when gently accelerating but I can’t recreate it either just happens. Another thing less worry-some .. is the gear hunting but seems to get better over time maybe getting used to drivers patterns.
@@Dbyoutube-w8v exhaust rattle? Ive had numerous cars that vibrate going up hills. Check your engine mounts, or exhaust manifold right through to tailpipe.
@garymetzker5763 Totally AGREE with you. Scotty had me laughing so hard as he was doing his German imitation.I found that part of the video absolutely Hilarious. That’s what I love about Scotty’s channel, you can learn a lot and also laugh a lot. I gave you the old thumbs up.
I feel that backing into a parking space is better as I saw the spot when I was driving to it, I saw the space had room for my rig, & when backing I can see with my mirrors both sides. My only is going too far back, & the camera solve that. When I return, I put it in drive & go. &, to be honest, I look for a drive through parking, so I don't even need to bake in, I drive in to park, then drive out. Thank you for your videos :-)
if you back into a parking space, you are more alert at that moment because you can see where you are going and any obstacles you will encounter - you concentrate on what you are doing.. Walk away and come back in two hours; now you can see and more apt to avoid an accident. Always try to park where you can drive forward when you leave.
I thought that the metal shavings reason was highly suspicious. Honda is also having main bearing failures in V6 engines with 80,000 to 100,000 miles!! My take on this problem maybe related to the low viscosity oil 0W20 and cam bearing clearances !
Yes. According to the news. They were telling that mechanics were recommending not to buy any car above a 2020 model in all cars. Citing different mechanical problems, and software, and chip problems. Currently I have an eleven year old Honda which I'm planning on keeping because of the current state of car manufacturing problems.
Toyota hybrids are big trouble. June 13, 2023 I bought a brand new Honda Odyssey. Do what I did...buy a Honda. Good old tried and true 3.5L V6, 10 speed automatic transmission. No hybrid, no EV, no nonsense.
Smart man! Yes old and trusted reliable technology has been proven to work. No need to change it. Sadly almost everything from Toyota will be coming with stupid hybrid crap and tiny engines. They’ll lose significant market value once the Camry & Sienna start breaking down which is only a matter of time.
I got a 2024 prius le, the car is essentially the same as prior models. Very small differences in the motor and hybrid system. Also a bigger battery with 10 year warranty from toyota. Cant go wrong with a taxi car 😂
300k miles on a Tundra with no more than 15 MPG on average (that can easily become 10MPG while towing) is 20 000 gals of fuel worth around 3 times the purchase price of the 2007 Tundra (MSRP range between 9 and 15k USD if google is truthful) adjusted for inflation. Not that the modern Tundra is really worth it.
Your data about deaths from car in the US vs Europe is skewed, it's not the population size that matters, it's the drivers per capital that matter and the US has more than Europe so only naturally the US would have more deaths.
“Toyota’s vehicle problems reflect a broader economic struggle, with uncertainties arising from housing crises, foreclosures, global fluctuations, and the lingering effects of the pandemic. This instability, coupled with rising inflation, sluggish growth, and trade disruptions, underscores the urgent need for coordinated efforts to restore economic stability and drive recovery.”

yeah, dealers are constantly calling me to sell them my 2011toyota and 2017 Toyota i told them i am never selling them i don't want the new junk they make.
Sold my 3rd gen 4Runner with almost half a million miles on the odometer, because I was getting the 5th. 3rd gen engine run like a clock, very quiet. It was a great truck.
I'm proud to say that I've never bought a Toyota. Only GM and Chevy vehicles and they have never let me down. All of my Chevy vehicles have made it to well over 100,000 miles with zero issues.
Glad I purchased a new second generation 2021 Toyota Sequoia TRD Pro employing that bulletproof naturally aspirated 3UR-FE 5.7 liter V-8 engine and reliable 6 speed Aisan transmission.
I would say a big reason why the US has so many road deaths is the big vehicles. Of course, if you crash in a big heavy pickup truck or SUV, it is so much more force and weight leading to death.
My 1999 Camry LE's have 365K and 389K miles with no problems. The 4 cylinder 5FSE is one of the best engines ever made. Plus, it doesn't have all of that computerized Bravo Sierra and Big Brother in it. Cars after 2010 are all garbage! AI can also mean Annoying Idiots!
I'm sticking with my 2009 Toyota Aurion (Aussie version of the USA model Camry) Sportivo SX6...no new cars for me. It's my dad's old car as he upgraded to a 2020 Toyota Camry Hybrid
Good luck . I have a 23 Tacoma v6 . Transmission and lack of power issues . All the dash light go on while vehicle is running. I brought it to the dealer and they said nothing is wrong with it . I’ve talked to many including my neighbor who has the same year model and have the same issues . Save yourself the headache and stay away from Toyota .
would love to see comparison of recalls and quality control between Japanese made vs American/baja-california made Toyotas. 100% believe issues can be sourced to US manufacturing
My 2008 Toyota Venza was a pile of junk. Worse than my worst nightmare. It didn't last 100,000 miles. Brake & traction control computers galore, a ruptured oil cooling line, and the grand finale was a failed transmission. total pile of junk
They could turn it around by turning back to what they use to do before EV were an option. Take out the spyware, the push starts, and the lithium batteries.
Scotty, great German imitation. I laughed my arse off during that segment describing the German safety law proposal. That was Absolutely Hilarious. Thanks Scotty for creating these educational and entertaining videos.
The 2025 Forerunner will not have the reliable 4liter V6 anymore. Only choices are two turbo four bangers. Used Forerunner prices are about to skyrocket!
Sheeeesh… well I’m still riding my ‘11 corolla with 234k miles.. overdue some suspension but just last month had one coil go bad. Mech said I can just replace one if I wanted to and if another fails it would be in another 6 months to a couple years maybe… I said do em all and knocked off some labor anyway (aaa approved mechanic), and weeks before that an oil pan leak and switch… and in June had a bad radiator which also radiator was brittle.. anyways all fixed. The last major problem I had before all that was the alternator in 2016 I think.

I’m not optimistic about Toyota’s new vehicles. All the cars for 2025 have CVT’s and come in Hybrid only.
True, especially the new Camrys.
Wow that does not sound like the Toyota I know
Exactly
I thought Scotty said something recently about Toyota becoming more reliable than Honda?!
Some UA-cam guy commented that he knows someone who works at the Toyota factory, he said they don't have skilled old timers and the crankshafts were made with too tight a fit with the main bearings, so they're idiots and didn't check blueprints and motors are tearing themselves apart.
It's the new DEI hires!
Lay off the koolaide, your thinking dei stands for dale earhart incorporated
I think you mistyped it.... I think you mean Chevrolet factory or Dodge 🤔
If people have a modern car with backup cameras and other safety features. But still cause accidents backing up at 2mph in a parking lot.... they shouldnt be aloud to drive or exist for that matter.
It seems that any models that weren’t made and assembled in Japan are having issues.
Got 2 2024 corolla, no issues yet. Made in japan
so they are carrying all that power in paper cups and not proper steel jugs, got it
Bought a ‘24 4Runner TRD ORP. Peak Toyota. Simple, reliable, and will last me 20 years with good maintenance. Hate to see what’s happening with the newer Gen trucks.
Same but '23 as I thought would be last with v6. Off by a year but still VERY satisfied.
Look out for the ABS. Change the brake fluid every 36,000 miles or 3 years.
Toyota is no different than anyone else.
Toyota IS different than anyone else!! They just make mistakes SOMETIMES.... Unlike other car manufacturers who make mistakes EVERY 5-6 years when introducing a new car model! 😉
@@manaaalsuwaidi3643 Spot on.
Dang I wanted a new Toyota, but I guess I'll just keep driving my trusty first gen Tundra
I'm still driving my 1983 Toyota four wheel drive pickup I bought new.
Still driving my 2003 Pontiac Vibe!
I got a 2003 Matrix 😅
The Vibe / Matrix an all time favorite! Miss my 09-Vibe GT💕
Hot damn I’m still driving my 2007 vibe and 98 Dakota.
I feel you.. I'm still driving my 2003 pontiac sunfire 210,000 miles
Still driving my 2001 Camaro
I would also partially blame the EPA for tightening their standards. If they were looser, Toyota would probably still be making their legendary V8 engines
Thank you. California can do what they want, why do we all have to use their stupid rules?
The EPA should be shut down. Those people are the biggest morons on the planet
Toyota forgot to send Scotty his check this month😂💰

Scotty you are not talking about Ford who are recalling 1.3 million truck for bad engines and Ford is looking the other way while Toyota is replacing those engines.
ford is american, hes not going to attack american. he only attacks foreign cars
how is recalling 1.3m trucks looking the other way?
hes called them out countless times this year alone....
I was thinking about a new car but. Issues are not going away. Maybe we need the old guy back at the office.
Never buy the first edition when a car company changes everything including the drivetrain ...... The buyer is the R/D for the company doing it for free
Quality control has disappeared from manufacturing, in every thing, that includes food, every product you buy!
And yeah, I got a 2024 corolla made in japan, they said the same thing about the oil, hell with that, I change it much more often ohan that
I took my 2024 4Runner in for oil change at 1000 mile. They looked at me like I’m crazy lol
I’ll be back for a 5000 mile change.
F them.
I almost got one of the Tundra’s. Really glad when I went to the Toyota dealer they were too busy for me. I ended up ordering a F150 5.0 and love it.
I hope you have a warranty on timing chain and cam replacement.
@ nope mine was the only brand new truck to not come with a warranty.

The joy of cost savings/greed. Ugh.
Maybe it’s corporate espionage and sabotage. They could have a few people paid off to “make mistakes”
I've often wondered that too, many times part failures come from parts countries outside of Japan
I have a 2018 Avalon and I will keep it for as long as I can.
I bought a Crown Signia. I suspect they have that engine, battery and motors, and eCVT figured out. And built in Japan.
Car care nut approved 👍
Read my lips, Do Not Buy A Newer Endless Money Pits Toyotas and Lexuses with a 2.4 turbo and 3.5 Twin Turbo and 3.3 Twin turbo diesel, unless get a old or new 2017 or 2018 Toyota and Lexus
The older Toyota are going up with best quality, but newer 2025 any Toyota any Lexus are going downhill and garbage quality plastic cheap made, a thousands of dollars to fix a new engine with 2025 even with a warranty, the dealers will reject your warranty and pay for them
Scotty, I took your advice and bought a 2022 Toyota Tacoma because it was the last one with the V6. I did not want the two turbo four-cylinder. Do you know of any issues that I might have with this truck? Thanks a lot for all your hard work, sir.
Change the oil every 5,000 and keep up routine maintenance and y should get 300k.
@ thank you

We are gathered here today to pay our respects to an old friend, loved and trusted by many.
I’m convinced that it’s better to buy a mid 80 to early 2000 truck, and sink some money in it over buying these modern piles of 💩…
I thought that the metal shavings reason was highly suspicious. Honda is also having main bearing failures in V6 engines with 80,000 to 100,000 miles!! My take on this problem maybe related to the low viscosity oil 0W20 and cam bearing clearances !
They have problems with fuel injectors too and the 1.5L is blowing head gaskets., also fuel injectors failure.
Main reason why I am only staying with getting a 2012 Toyota RAV4 the new ones have to many problems
too many!
2000 Camry owner here. 350k and still going. I'm lovin it😊

I have a 05 Chrysler 300 V6 over 200000 miles and no major problems changed original battery two years ago can't complain.
Own 2007 Tundra 309k, 2006 Highlander 358k and 2002 Montana 180k. Notice anything?
07 V8 4RUNNER 335k miles runs fine, no way a 2025 4RUNNER with the four cyl turbo will provide that reliability.
Need to factor in miles driven, too
... We commute more.

This instability, coupled with rising inflation, sluggish growth, and trade disruptions, underscores the urgent need for coordinated efforts to restore economic stability and drive recovery.”

Not only quality problems. Toyota dealers get upset if you ask for a quote. They have this attitude “Price is on the website, are you buying or not?”

Some 2024s have engine problems. Check the year and do your research before buying any car.
It seems they suffer the same thing like in Europe: downsizing combined with high output.
