Old tractors may be a bit slower and need driven with a little more care, but they still do a job and are easy to fix 👍 Everyone needs an old dependable for when the modern gear lets them down :)
I know it's only a temporary solution but if you drop a gear while you are spreading and use more revs the tractor will stay cooler. The fan speed on those older tractors is directly proportionate to the engine revs so it is running very slowly when you keep it just above idle. :-)
@@harrymiller3986... And the engine cooling is proportional to the amount coolant pumped around the block and through the radiator and the amount of cool air being pulled through the radiator. I would be worried about the drawbar flex hauling that load! I have snapped them and thats not fun. So we used the 3 point hitch arms and chain to the drawbar to add support and take the flex out of the drawbar.
How does that work when turning? Can't imagine how that works when the arms move in line with the tractor and don't run straight with the drawbar when turning!
@@PA-ek3ul You use the broken drawbar 2 1/2 feet long underneath the new drawbar and bolt it on using the spare smaller holes on the drawbar. Weld chain on to the ends of the old drawbar and attach to arm where chains go, make sure chain is long enough to raise arm to top. Its there only to support the new drawbar to take any bounce or flex out of it. We run a tandem axle 4000 imperial gallon tanker and it use to bounce.

I mean, these are selling points. (wink).....seriously, it is a shame. A local farmer was posting about a similar issue with trying to trade up and how the prices seem to go up by the hour.
That Case is certainly a tractor, alright having to slow down quite a bit but it does the job well considering it's almost as old as you Tom. Think the Huliman the one to go as it seems to be costing a fair amount of cash these days.
Good video. I have a question. How come all the cattle operations I watch the tractors and equipment is always filthy in side the cabs and outside? The cash crop farmers always have neat and are cleaning and fixing the equipment. I was raised on a dairy farm and we would wash the equipment at least twice a month of more. My family is originally from Greenaway Green area so it’s easier to catch the words.
It really depends on your priorities i think. I work on a dairy farm in the Netherlands and we like to keep our tractors and equipment clean because it's easier to spot a leak for example but it is also a lot nicer to work with. But i've got to admit it does take some time and it's easier to keep clean when you have a clean yard. In ours There is no slurry anywhere other than in the pits or silo and the yard is regularly sweeped. Offcourse it gets dirty especially during busy spring or summer times but if you take some time to clean up it can save time and money in the end. I can imagine back in the day however it was more of a priority to keep the farm running instead of keeping it clean. Tom is doing a nice job cleaning up the farm though, it is getting cleaner over the years.
You also have to keep in mind the weather (countries with a lot of rain = mud, etc that gets into everything). plus priorities. Meaning (for instance) if there are only two people working, and one is spreading slurry all day while the other is milking, feeding, doctoring cows, and cleaning barns, polishing the kit likely becomes less of a priority.
I think it’s just because we are in muck all the time. Summer it’s abit better but we still have muck on our boots which then gets into the cabs. Winters the conditions are pretty bad. The aim is to get a tractor to drive where cows aren’t and it would keep them cleaner ☺️
I remember when we had a new 885xl and it was a “big” tractor back in its day!
